This hermeneutic phenomenological study explored the meaning of experiencing emotional/psychological intimate partner violence (IPV) for Saudi married women in Riyadh before and after Vision 2030. Nine Saudi women who married before 2015 were selected based on the Composite Abuse Scale results. The study\u27s central question was: How do Saudi Arabian married women who experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) interpret their emotional/psychological IPV experience before and after Vision 2030? The guiding two questions were: 1) How do Saudi Arabian married women who have experienced intimate partner violence cope or react to their emotional/psychological violence? 2) How do national, social, and relational factors influence their coping mechanism or reaction to emotional/psychological violence? The theories guiding this study were feminist and social constructivism theories. Data collection included semi-structured interviews, online reflection journals, and online focus group. Data analysis utilized the Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. Eight themes and ten subthemes emerged, revealing their sense of powerlessness before the Vision and sense of empowerment after it. Influenced by different national, social, and relational factors, their coping mechanisms included doing nothing, seeking formal or informal support, and being more independent. The study’s findings supported social constructivism and feminism theories on IPV risk factors, attitudes, and women\u27s reactions and highlighted Vision\u27s positive impacts on improving supportive resources and empowering Saudi women

Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative disorder resulting from the neoplastic transformation of hematopoietic stem cells. A higher number of (54%) CML patients in Qatar failed to respond to the treatment compared to those of (34%) internationally. Classification of the different stages of the disease is done in the clinic but is not sufficient; there is a great need to find markers that can be used to stratify the stages of the CML disease and furthermore monitor those that are undergoing treatment. Aims and Objectives: For this study, we aimed to identify the disease-specific profile of genes (transcripts) by analyzing the RNA sequencing of patients, recruited from two different stages of CML disease i.e. Chronic Phase (CP) and Complete Remission (CR). Our objective was to see if we can identify a disease-specific group of transcripts. Methods: A total of 16 subjects were recruited for the study, which included nine patients with chronic phase (CP), three with complete remission and four healthy individuals (Controls, (CNT). RNA extracted from frozen PBMCs or fresh blood was used for RNA sequencing and analysis using Hiseq Illumina 4000. Results and Discussions: We identified a subset of 23 transcripts and classified them into four different groups. We discovered that eight transcripts: MAZ_4, RIT1_3, BUB1_4, CFLAR_5, PARVG_6, SENP5_6, GATS_1, TAOK3_4 were significantly and differentially expressed in the chronic phase patients only compared to five transcripts that segregated the complete remission from the rest of the cohort study and These are HNRNPA3_4, SLC4A7_3, TBC1D4_8, CTC1_1, GRAMD1A_6. The following five transcripts: U2SURP_5SEPT9_2, DPY19L3_8, CYTH4_1, PLXNB2_8 were differentially expressed in both groups of patients compared to control group. These that are shared between CP and CR group might indicate that study subjects in the complete remission did not fully recover and might need closer monitoring and to validate this current observation will be through a longitudinal follow up for some patients in complete remission using other diagnostic methods to examine the ratio of BCR-ABL1 fusion gene and the expression level of these shared transcripts between CP and CR groups. Conclusion: This study provides sets of the promising genes (transcripts) that have the potential to be used to stratify CML patients into complete remission and chronic phase groups. These findings have the potential for following-up and to specifically determine the treatment dose. Furthermore, some of these differentially expressed genes (transcripts) might be a potential therapeutic target or could be used as prognostic biomarkers

Fractional infinite time-delay evolution equations with non-instantaneous impulsive

    Get PDF
This dissertation is regarded to investigate the system of infinite time-delay and non-instantaneous impulsive to fractional evolution equations containing an infinitesimal generator operator. It turns out that its mild solution is existed and is unique. Our model is built using a fractional Caputo approach of order lies between 1 and 2. To get the mild solution, the families associated with cosine and sine which are linear strongly continuous bounded operators, are provided. It is common to use Krasnoselskii's theorem and the Banach contraction mapping principle to prove the existence and uniqueness of the mild solution. To confirm that our results are applicable, an illustrative example is introduced

A perspective on magnetic core–shell carriers for responsive and targeted drug delivery systems

Magnetic core–shell nanocarriers have been attracting growing interest owing to their physicochemical and structural properties. The main principles of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are localized treatment and stability under the effect of external magnetic fields. Furthermore, these MNPs can be coated or functionalized to gain a responsive property to a specific trigger, such as pH, heat, or even enzymes. Current investigations have been focused on the employment of this concept in cancer therapies. The evaluation of magnetic core–shell materials includes their magnetization properties, toxicity, and efficacy in drug uptake and release. This review discusses some categories of magnetic core–shell drug carriers based on Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 as the core, and different shells such as poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), poly(vinylpyrrolidone), chitosan, silica, calcium silicate, metal, and lipids. In addition, the review addresses their recent potential applications for cancer treatment. The authors would like to acknowledge Qatar University for funding the project: GCC Co-Fund Program Grant #GCC-2017-001 and student grant QUST-1-CAS-2019-36. The present research examines the plausibility of Unified Theory Acceptance and Use Technology (UTAUT) model in predicting internet banking behaviour as a newly adopted technology third world countries. Data is collected from three Arab countries: Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Confirmatory factor analysis is applied to test constructs measurement and model hypotheses. Findings are congruent with model testing under conditions of volitional usage behaviour. In this regard, the role of facilitating conditions variable is insignificant as a determinant of usage behaviour. Social norms variable also proved to be weak determinant of behavioural intentions mainly owing to users’ experience. Findings demonstrate effort expectancy as the key determinant of internet banking usage behaviour in the examined markets, while users’ experience moderates the impact of effort expectancy on behavioural intention. Results should enhance our understanding of internet banking usage in developing countries and support e-services promoting in this region

A major challenge for oncologists and pharmacologists is to develop less toxic drugs that will improve the survival of lung cancer patients. Frondoside A is a triterpenoid glycoside isolated from the sea cucumber, Cucumaria frondosa and was shown to be a highly safe compound. We investigated the impact of Frondoside A on survival, migration and invasion in vitro, and on tumor growth, metastasis and angiogenesis in vivo alone and in combination with cisplatin. Frondoside A caused concentration-dependent reduction in viability of LNM35, A549, NCI-H460-Luc2, MDA-MB-435, MCF-7, and HepG2 over 24 hours through a caspase 3/7-dependent cell death pathway. The IC50 concentrations (producing half-maximal inhibition) at 24 h were between 1.7 and 2.5 mu M of Frondoside A. In addition, Frondoside A induced a time- and concentration-dependent inhibition of cell migration, invasion and angiogenesis in vitro. Frondoside A (0.01 and 1 mg/kg/day i.p. for 25 days) significantly decreased the growth, the angiogenesis and lymph node metastasis of LNM35 tumor xenografts in athymic mice, without obvious toxic side-effects. Frondoside A (0.1-0.5 mu M) also significantly prevented basal and bFGF induced angiogenesis in the CAM angiogenesis assay. Moreover, Frondoside A enhanced the inhibition of lung tumor growth induced by the chemotherapeutic agent cisplatin. These findings identify Frondoside A as a promising novel therapeutic agent for lung cancer

Purpose: The study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS), which incorporates fixed criteria, and the Likert scale (LS), which mainly depends on an overall impression in liver lesion diagnosis. Material and methods: Diagnostic data of 110 hepatic nodules in 103 high-risk patients for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were included. Data including diameter, arterial hyperenhancement, washout, and capsule were reviewed by 2 readers using LI-RADS and LS (range, score 1-5). Inter-reader agreement (IRA), intraclass agreement (ICA), and diagnostic performance were determined by Fleiss, Cohen's k, and logistic regression, respectively. Results: There were 53 triphasic enhanced computed tomography (CT) and 50 dynamic magnetic resonance (MR) examinations. Overall, IRA was excellent (k = 0.898). IRA was good for arterial hyperenhancement (k = 0.705), washout (k = 0.763), and capsule (k = 0.771) and excellent for diameter (k = 0.981) and tumour embolus (k = 0.927). Overall, ICA between LI-RADS and LS was fair 0.32; ICA was good for scores of 1 (k = 0.682), fair for scores of 2 (k = 0.36), moderate for scores of 5 (k = 0.52), but no agreement was found for scores of 3 (k = –0.059) and 4 (k = –0.022). LIRADS produced relatively high accuracy (87.3% vs. 80%), relatively low sensitivity (84.3% vs. 98%), and significantly higher specificity (89.83% vs. 64.4%) and positive likelihood ratio (+LR: 8.29 vs. 2.75) compared to LS approach. Conclusions: LI-RADS revealed higher diagnostic accuracy as compared to LS with statistical proof higher specificity and +LR showing its ability to foretell malignancy in high-risk patients. We recommend the practical application of the LI-RADS system in the detection and treatment response monitoring of patients with HCC

Ankylosis is a Greek word meaning a stiff joint. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis is the development of complete or incomplete limitation of movement of the TMJ by bone or fi brous tissue. The etiology and treatment of TMJ ankylosis have been well documented in the literature, with trauma and infection being the leading causes.Radiographically, ankylosis presents features that facilitate the diagnosis. However, its visualization is not precise involving conventional radiographic technique. With the evolution of radiographic techniques, computed tomography (CT) became an essential tool in the diagnosis of the ankylosis of TMJ and presented a valid reconstructed image of an ankylosis. The aim of this paper is to report a case of TMJ ankylosis in a 4-year-old girl and describe the importance tomographic images related ankylosis of TMJ by threedimensional (3D) CT, using several slices as axial, coronal, and 3D reformatted images as a guide for presurgical treatment planning of an ankylosis
