The title compound, C12H14O6, features a roughly planar molĀecule (r.m.s. deviation for all non-H atoms = 0.287ā€…Ć…). In the crystal, the molĀecules are held together by Cā€”Hā‹ÆO hydrogen bonds

Cationā€Ļ€ Interactions between Methylated Ammonium Groups and Tryptophan in the CHARMM36 Additive Force Field

    Get PDF
Cation-Ļ€ interactions between tryptophan and choline or trimethylated lysines are vital for many biological processes. The performance of the additive CHARMM36 force field against target quantum mechanical data is shown to reproduce QM equilibrium geometries but required modified Lennard-Jones potentials to accurately reproduce the QM interaction energies. The modified parameter set allows accurate modeling, including free energies, of cation-Ļ€ indole-choline and indole-trimethylated lysines interactions relevant for proteinā€“ligand, proteinā€“membrane, and proteinā€“protein interfaces.acceptedVersio

Representation of women, older patients, ethnic, and racial minorities in trials of atrial fibrillation

BackgroundRepresentation trends of women, older adults, and ethnic/racial minorities in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of atrial fibrillation (AF) are uncertain.MethodsWe systematically reviewed 134 AF related RCTs (phase II and III) encompassing 149,162 participants using Medline and ClinicalTrials.gov through April 2019 to determine representation trends of women, older patients (ā‰„75 years), and ethnic/racial minorities. Weighted data on the prevalence of AF from epidemiological studies were used to compare the representation of the studied groups of interest in AF RCTs to their expected burden of the disease.ResultsOnly 18.7% of the RCTs reported proportion of older patients, and 12.7% RCTs reported ethnic/racial minorities. The proportions of women in RCTs versus general population were 35.2% and 35.1%, of Hispanics were 11.9% and 5.2%, of Blacks were 1.2% and 5.7%, of American Indian/Alaskans were 0.2% and 0.2%, of Asians were 14.2% and 2.4%, of native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders were 0.05% and 0.1% and of non-Whites were 19.5% and 22.5%, respectively. The weighted mean age (SD) across the trials was 65.3 (3.2) years which was less than the corresponding weighted mean age of 71.1 (4.5) years in the comparative epidemiological data.ConclusionThe reporting of older patients and ethnic/racial minorities was poor in RCTs of AF. The representation of women and American Indian/Alaskan natives matched their expected population share of disease burden. Hispanics and Asians were over-represented and Blacks, native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders and non-Whites were under-represented in RCTs of AF

New furocarbazole alkaloids from Lonicera quinquelocularis

Two new furocarbazole alkaloids, 3-formyl-6,7-dimethoxy-furo[1,2]carbazole (1) and methyl-6,7-dimethoxy-furo[1,2]carbazole-3-carboxylate (2), along with two known carbazole alkaloids, 3-formyl-2-hydroxy-7-methoxycarbazole (3) and methyl 2,7-dimethoxycarbazole-3-carboxylate (4) were isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of Lonicera quinquelocularis. Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic analysis

Is there such a thing as agile IT program management?

    Get PDF
This paper presents early evidence of agile methods in IT enabled transformational programs of high strategic significance and substantial complexity in large organisations. Based on interviews of top management, and program and project managers, we discuss the key drivers that lead to agile IT enabled programs and some of the barriers encountered while managing IT enabled programs in an agile manner. In addition to the need for fast response to environmental changes, strong IT-business collaboration, and efficient resource use by minimising governance burden, we found that organisations are adopting agile practices in program management as transitory step towards achieving enterprise agility. In doing so agile and non-agile projects co-exist within a program thus creating new coordination challenges. Programs with high degree of agile methods adoption face similar challenges in coordinating with the rest of the organisation which operates in non-agile manner. The paper aims to contribute to fostering scholarly discussion on implementation of agile practices in major projects and programs, an emerging area of research with scarce academic literature

The shifting sand of program coordination effort: lessons from IT-enabled transformation programs

Set in the context of an Australian software vendor for a global enterprise product, this paper explores the roles and practices that have evolved as the company scales from its already well established agile software teams, to agility at the enterprise level. With a focus on roles and practices at the program level within a Disciplined Agile Delivery framework, this study adds to the limited body of research into the process and impact of scaled agile approaches in software vendor environments

A novel approach to design lesion-specific stents for minimum recoil

    Get PDF
Stent geometries are obtained by topology optimization for minimized compliance under different stenosis levels and plaque material types. Three levels of stenosis by cross-sectional area, i.e., 30%, 40%, and 50% and three different plaque material properties, i.e., calcified, cellular, and hypocellular, were studied. The raw optimization results were converted to clear design concepts and their performance was evaluated by implanting them in their respective stenosed artery types using finite element analysis. The results were compared with a generic stent in similar arteries, which showed that the new designs showed less recoil. This work provides a concept that stents could be tailored to specific lesions in order to minimize recoil and maintain a patent lumen in stenotic arteries

A coupled fixed point theorem in fuzzy metric space satisfying Ļ†-contractive condition

    Get PDF
The intent of this paper is to prove a coupled fixed point theorem for two pairs of compatible and subsequentially continuous (alternately subcompatible and reciprocally continuous) mappings, satisfyingĻ•-contractive conditions in a fuzzy metric space. We also furnish some illustrative examples to support our results
