    Introduction. Fascial manipulations have received attention in the treatment of chronic low back pain (CLBP). The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of fascial manipulation on pain, flexibility, functional level, and kinesiophobia in patients with CLBP. Methods. overall, 55 individuals with a history of CLBP, without neurological deficits, lumbar disc herniation, lumbarization, spondylosis, or lumbar surgical history were included in the study. The participants were randomly divided into 2 groups depending on the patient protocol numbers. Subjects with odd protocol numbers were assigned to the study group (fascial manipulation) and those with even numbers to the control group (conventional physiotherapy). Both groups were assessed before and after the treatment in terms of pain, flexibility, functional level, and kinesiophobia. Results. There were significant differences after both treatment methods in terms of pain, functional level, and flexibility (p 0.05). Conclusions. We stated that fascial manipulation was more effective on pain than conventional physiotherapy methods (hot pack, microwave diathermy, interferential flow-vacuum applications, posterior pelvic tilt and abdominal exercises, stretching hip flexors and lumbar extensors) in patients with CLBP. © University School of Physical Education in Wrocła

    Subarachnoid Hemorrhage of Unknown Origin During Pregnancy: Case Report

    Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a stroke subtype resulting from leakage of blood. The incidence of SAH during pregnancy varies from 1 to 2 per 10000 pregnancies. The most frequent (%85) cause of SAH is a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. A 39-year-old woman at 33 weeks’ gestation experienced abrupt onset of severe headache, neck stiffness, photophobia, and vomiting and was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed as SAH. On neurological examination, no deficits were apparent. A magnetic resonance imaging showed a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Lumbar puncture was performed and SAH was confirmed. It was decided to proceed with a caesarean section. After cesarean delivery of a healthy infant, the patient immediately underwent cerebral angiography, which was normal. Eight days after the initial cerebral angiography, a second angiography demonstrated a suspicious aneurysm and vasospasm; therefore a third angiography was performed and was found normal. At discharge and at clinical follow-up, our patient was asymptomatic. Patients with significant SAH and negative cerebral angiography findings should be considered for further diagnostic testing including repeat cerebral angiography

    Growth curves for Turkish Girls with Turner Syndrome: Results of the Turkish Turner Syndrome Study Group

    OBJECTIVE: Children with Turner syndrome (TS) have a specific growth pattern that is quite different from that of healthy children. Many countries have population-specific growth charts for TS. Considering national and ethnic differences, we undertook this multicenter collaborative study to construct growth charts and reference values for height, weight and body mass index (BMI) from 3 years of age to adulthood for spontaneous growth of Turkish girls with TS. METHODS: Cross-sectional height and weight data of 842 patients with TS, younger than 18 years of age and before starting any therapy, were evaluated. RESULTS: The data were processed to calculate the 3rd, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th and 97th percentile values for defined ages and to construct growth curves for height-for-age, weight-for-age and BMI-for-age of girls with TS. The growth pattern of TS girls in this series resembled the growth pattern of TS girls in other reports, but there were differences in height between our series and the others. CONCLUSION: This study provides disease-specific growth charts for Turkish girls with TS. These disease-specific national growth charts will serve to improve the evaluation of growth and its management with growth-promoting therapeutic agents in TS patients

    The Impact of CoronaVac Vaccination on 28-day Mortality Rate of Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19 in Türkiye

    Background:Vaccines against coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) have been effective in preventing symptomatic diseases, hospitalizations, and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. However, data regarding the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines in reducing mortality among critically ill patients with COVID-19 remains unclear.Aims:To determine the vaccination status and investigate the impact of the COVID-19 vaccine on the 28-day mortality in critically ill patients with COVID-19.Study Design:Multicenter prospective observational clinical study.Methods:This study was conducted in 60 hospitals with ICUs managing critically ill patients with COVID-19. Patients aged ≥ 18 years with confirmed COVID-19 who were admitted to the ICU were included. The present study had two phases. The first phase was designed as a one-day point prevalence study, and demographic and clinical findings were evaluated. In the second phase, the 28-day mortality was evaluated.Results:As of August 11, 2021, 921 patients were enrolled in the study. The mean age of the patients was 65.42 ± 16.74 years, and 48.6% (n = 448) were female. Among the critically ill patients with COVID-19, 52.6% (n = 484) were unvaccinated, 7.7% (n = 71) were incompletely vaccinated, and 39.8% (n = 366) were fully vaccinated. A subgroup analysis of 817 patients who were unvaccinated (n = 484) or who had received two doses of the CoronaVac vaccine (n = 333) was performed. The 28-day mortality rate was 56.8% (n = 275) and 57.4% (n = 191) in the unvaccinated and two-dose CoronaVac groups, respectively. The 28-day mortality was associated with age, hypertension, the number of comorbidities, type of respiratory support, and APACHE II and sequential organ failure assessment scores (p < 0.05). The odds ratio for the 28-day mortality among those who had received two doses of CoronaVac was 0.591 (95% confidence interval: 0.413-0.848) (p = 0.004).Conclusion:Vaccination with at least two doses of CoronaVac within six months significantly decreased mortality in vaccinated patients than in unvaccinated patients
