Objective The aim of this study was to estimate the level of liver fatty acid binding protein (LFABP) in women with preeclampsia. Method A case–control study was conducted in 90 pregnant women who were divided into the following three groups: normal pregnancy (n = 30), mild–moderate preeclampsia (n = 30), and severe preeclampsia (n = 30). Maternal blood samples were obtained during an antenatal clinic visit in normal pregnant women, and at the time of diagnosis in women with preeclampsia. Serum LFABP levels were measured by the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Results Serum LFABP level was significantly higher in severe and mild–moderate preeclampsia groups than normal pregnancy group (1,709.90 ± 94.82, 1,614.93 ± 118.22, and 1,532.36 ± 140.98 pg/ml, respectively; p\0.001). In multivariate analysis, the severity of preeclampsia was correlated with LFABP level [unadjusted odds ratio (95 % confidence interval), 1.008 (1.003–1.012), p\0.001 and LDH 1.063 (1.029–1.099), p\0.001]. Conclusion Maternal serum LFABP level appears to be correlated with the severity of the preeclampsia and can be used to confirm the diagnosis

This subject is studied and alayzed as a master thesis to contribute to the scientific research and applications in this field. The scope of this study are legal and criminal responsibilities due to the use of bad checks. We analyze legal or natural persons who is responsibele to have sufficient funds for the checks they use, their legal and criminal responsibilities, and bansks' positions in case of bad checks. We tried to anlyze the subject from a multidimensional point of view. This study is completed after a literature review and corresponding evaluation of the subject. The analysis takes into account both the theories from Turkish law doctrine and rulings by Supreme Court of Appeals. Legal and criminal responsibilities arising from the use of bad checks have been regulated by Turkish Commercial Law and by the New Law on Checks. This study is a response to criticism of the New Law on Checks. However it is found that this law could not resolve current problems in this field completely. We conclude that in order for legal and criminal responsibilities arising from the use of bad checks to be more operational, it would be helpful to increase legal responsibilities especially of the banks. It is also argued that jail sentence to those who use bad checks would help this operationalization. We analyze the subject in three sections. Section one studies 'the concept of check and bad checks'. In section two, we analyze 'legal responsibilities arising from the use of bad checks'. In section three, we analyze 'criminal responsibilities arising from the use of bad checks'

Introduction: Esophageal cancer (EC) is a highly lethal malignancy. The majority of esophageal cancers are squamous cell or adenocarcinomas. Although the incidence of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is decreasing in the United States, the incidence of adenocarcinoma arising out of Barrett's esophagus is rising dramatically, although less so in the last few years. Treatment in locally advanced EC (LA-EC) must be multidisciplinary. There are only few factors which affects the prognosis. Our aim was to investigate the prognostic and predictive roles of pretreatment neutrophil/leucocyte (neu/leu) ratios in LA-EC patients receiving chemoradiotherapy (CRT)
