    Orientation and Alignment Echoes

    We present what is probably the simplest classical system featuring the echo phenomenon - a collection of randomly oriented free rotors with dispersed rotational velocities. Following excitation by a pair of time-delayed impulsive kicks, the mean orientation/alignment of the ensemble exhibits multiple echoes and fractional echoes. We elucidate the mechanism of the echo formation by kick-induced filamentation of phase space, and provide the first experimental demonstration of classical alignment echoes in a thermal gas of CO_2 molecules excited by a pair of femtosecond laser pulses

    Fractional Echoes

    We report the observation of fractional echoes in a double-pulse excited nonlinear system. Unlike standard echoes which appear periodically at delays which are integer multiple of the delay between the two exciting pulses, the fractional echoes appear at rational fractions of this delay. We discuss the mechanism leading to this phenomenon, and provide the first experimental demonstration of fractional echoes by measuring third harmonic generation in a thermal gas of CO2 molecules excited by a pair of femtosecond laser pulses

    Photodissociation dynamics of methyl iodide probed using femtosecond extreme ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy

    Femtosecond pump-probe photoelectron spectroscopy measurements using an extreme ultraviolet probe have been made on the photodissociation dynamics of UV (269 nm) excited CH3I. The UV excitation leads to population of the 3Q0 state which rapidly dissociates. The dissociation is manifested as shifts in the measured photoelectron kinetic energy that map the extending C-I bond. The increased energy available in the XUV probe relative to a UV probe means the dynamics are followed over the chemically important region as far as C-I bond lengths of approximately 4 Å

    Electronic patient self-assessment and management (SAM): a novel framework for cancer survivorship

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>We propose a novel framework for management of cancer survivorship: electronic patient Self-Assessment and Management (SAM). SAM is a framework for transfer of information to and from patients in such a way as to increase both the patient's and the health care provider's understanding of the patient's progress, and to help ensure that patient care follows best practice.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Patients who participate in the SAM system are contacted by email at regular intervals and asked to complete validated questionnaires online. Patient responses on these questionnaires are then analyzed in order to provide patients with real-time, online information about their progress and to provide them with tailored and standardized medical advice. Patient-level data from the questionnaires are ported in real time to the patient's health care provider to be uploaded to clinic notes. An initial version of SAM has been developed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for aiding the clinical management of patients after surgery for prostate cancer.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Pilot testing at MSKCC and UCSF suggests that implementation of SAM systems are feasible, with no major problems with compliance (> 70% response rate) or security.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>SAM is a conceptually simple framework for passing information to and from patients in such a way as to increase both the patient's and the health care provider's understanding of the patient's progress, and to help ensure that patient care follows best practice.</p

    OP0163 2019 UPDATE OF THE JOINT EUROPEAN LEAGUE AGAINST RHEUMATISM AND EUROPEAN RENAL ASSOCIATION–EUROPEAN DIALYSIS AND TRANSPLANT ASSOCIATION (EULAR/ERA-EDTA) RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF LUPUS NEPHRITIS

    Background:Up to 40% of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients develop kidney disease, which represents a major cause of morbidity.Objectives:To update the 2012 EULAR/ERA-EDTA recommendations for the management of lupus nephritis (LN).Methods:We followed the EULAR standardised operating procedures for the publication of treatment recommendations. Delphi-based methodology led to 15 questions for systematic literature review (SLR), which was undertaken by three fellows.Results:The changes include recommendations for treatment targets, use of glucocorticoids and calcineurin inhibitors (CNI), and management of end-stage-kidney-disease (ESKD). The target of therapy is complete response (proteinuria 1g/24h despite renin-angiotensin-aldosterone blockade, MMF in combination with glucocorticoids is preferred. Assessment for kidney and extra-renal disease activity, and management of comorbidities is lifelong with repeat kidney biopsy in cases of incomplete response or nephritic flares.
