Opportunistic Secrecy with a Strict Delay Constraint
We investigate the delay limited secrecy capacity of the flat fading channel
under two different assumptions on the available transmitter channel state
information (CSI). The first scenario assumes perfect prior knowledge of both
the main and eavesdropper channel gains. Here, upper and lower bounds on the
delay limited secrecy capacity are derived, and shown to be tight in the high
signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. In the second scenario, only the main
channel CSI is assumed to be available at the transmitter where, remarkably, we
establish the achievability of a non-zero delay-limited secure rate, for a wide
class of channel distributions, with a high probability. In the two cases, our
achievability arguments are based on a novel two-stage key-sharing approach
that overcomes the secrecy outage phenomenon observed in earlier works.Comment: Submitted to IEEE Transactions on Information Theor
Stigma impedes AIDS prevention
Thirty years since the first cases of AIDS were described, there is much to celebrate regarding progress in the treatment and prevention of the disease. Within the past year alone, several studies have revealed that antiretroviral drugs can prevent the sexual transmission of HIV. Yet worldwide, many people who are potentially exposed to the virus avoid finding out whether they carry it, or deny that they are at risk of contracting it. Unless people establish whether they are infected, they will not be able to be adopt the most appropriate preventive measures. As scientists and clinicians, our ability to overcome this denialism will determine whether we ultimately succeed in using combinations of all the preventive and therapeutic tools now available to slow, and eventually stop, the HIV/AIDS pandemic
Assessment of risks in conditions of provision of security of economic activities of organizations
The study of the evolution of the economic security of the business entity has shown that at the present stage of economic development it is important to consider the factors of influence on economic security, in particular: the effectiveness of management, personnel and financial safety, a strategic approach to the functioning of the communication system of protection, taking into account the evolution of security and active search for innovative modern domains of development of industrial organizations and increase of the responsibility of performers for the consequences of their work. This allows to reduce the risk of loss of economic safety of the business entity. It was argued that innovative conceptualization of risk as a probable threat of losses lies within the scope of activity of managers of various units and has features of probable economic and objective-subjective nature, as well as a wide range of variability of the impact on the issues of economic safety and is conditioned by the dynamic development of important societal significant economic processes at the global and national levels, which ultimately contributes to enhancement of the organization’s competitive advantages
Neural-Augmented Static Analysis of Android Communication
We address the problem of discovering communication links between
applications in the popular Android mobile operating system, an important
problem for security and privacy in Android. Any scalable static analysis in
this complex setting is bound to produce an excessive amount of
false-positives, rendering it impractical. To improve precision, we propose to
augment static analysis with a trained neural-network model that estimates the
probability that a communication link truly exists. We describe a
neural-network architecture that encodes abstractions of communicating objects
in two applications and estimates the probability with which a link indeed
exists. At the heart of our architecture are type-directed encoders (TDE), a
general framework for elegantly constructing encoders of a compound data type
by recursively composing encoders for its constituent types. We evaluate our
approach on a large corpus of Android applications, and demonstrate that it
achieves very high accuracy. Further, we conduct thorough interpretability
studies to understand the internals of the learned neural networks.Comment: Appears in Proceedings of the 2018 ACM Joint European Software

Numerical solution for open channel flow with submerged flexible vegetation
The purpose of this study is to explore the suitability of numerical models in estimation o f velocity and flow
resistance (Manning n) in open channels with totally submerged flexible vegetation. A three dimensional (3D)
numerical model based on arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) approach has been employed to simulate the effects of various characteristics of selected flexible vegetations to the velocity distribution and flow resistance. The modeling involved simultaneous solution of Navier Stokes equation f or o pen channel flow, s tress-strain relationship for the vegetation structure and ALE algorithm for the moving vegetation boundaries. The numerical computation has been carried out with a n aid of a commercial finite element software package, COMSOL Multiphysics 3.4. The numerical results were validated using experimental data carried out in the laboratory using real vegetations. The accuracy of numerical model compared t o experimental results w as
measured in terms of mean absolute error (MAE). The results show that the numerical model which combined the three applications as mentioned above able to predict the velocity and the flow resistance coefficient in open vegetated channel with reasonable accuracy. The MAE calculated for velocity and Manning n is ±0.02

Ultra-broadband mid-infrared supercontinuum generation through dispersion engineering of chalcogenide microstructured fibers
We demonstrate numerically that the use of dispersion-engineered microstrucured fibers made with chalcogenide glasses allows one to generate ultrabroadband supercontinuum spectra in the mid-infrared region by launching optical pulses at a suitable wavelength. As a specific example, numerical simulations show that such a 1 cm long fiber, made with Ge11.5As24Se64.5 glass and pumped at a wavelength of 3.1 μm using short pulses with a relatively modest peak power of 3 kW, can produce a spectrum extending from 1.3 μm to beyond 11 μm (more than 3 octaves). We consider three fiber structures with microstrucured air holes in their cladding and find their optimum designs through dispersion engineering. Among these, equiangular spiral microstrucured fiber is found to be the most promising candidate for generating an ultrawide supercontinuum in the mid-infrared region
On zero sets in the Dirichlet space
We study the zeros sets of functions in the Dirichlet space. Using Carleson
formula for Dirichlet integral, we obtain some new families of zero sets. We
also show that any closed subset of E \subset \TT with logarithmic capacity
zero is the accumulation points of the zeros of a function in the Dirichlet
space. The zeros satisfy a growth restriction which depends on .Comment: Journal of Geometric Analysis (2011
