This study sought to explore the interaction between academic resilience and academic achievement as measured by Grade Point Average (GPA). To this end, the Academic Resilience Scale (Cassidy, 2016) consisting of 30 items and scored on a 5-point Likert scale was administered. The overall reliability of the scale was .79 and the reliability coefficients for the three sub-scales were above .70. Student GPAs (M= 2.50, SD= .51) were procured by a self-report item. The sample of the study consisted of 198 preservice English language teachers at a foundation university in Turkey. Descriptive results showed that participants scored highest on reflecting and adaptive help-seeking (M= 3.77, SD= .58). It was followed by perseverance (M= 3.44, SD= .41) and negative affect and emotional response (M= 2.90, SD= .69) dimensions. Moreover, positive correlations were revealed between GPA and perseverance (r= .20, p <.05) and reflecting and adaptive help-seeking (r= .37, p<.01). The results of the multiple regression analysis manifested reflecting and adaptive help-seeking to be the only significant predictor of GPA

In this study, the focus will be on the concept of integral in two-variable functions, which holds great significance not only in mathematics but also in fields related to science and engineering in terms of learning and teaching. The integral of a two-variable function is a fundamental concept in mathematics with broad applications in science and engineering. This study addresses the vital role of this concept in shaping the foundational knowledge of engineering faculty students. The ability to comprehend and apply integrals is crucial not only for mathematical proficiency but also for success in various scientific and engineering disciplines. Within this scope, the study aims to examine the domain knowledge of engineering faculty students regarding the integral concept in terms of conceptual and procedural knowledge. This research was structured as a case study with twenty engineering faculty students selected according to critical case sampling. Participants were administered a questionnaire consisting of 10 questions to assess their knowledge of the integral of two-variable functions and in-depth insights into their conceptual and procedural knowledge of the topic were obtained. According to the results of data analysis, it was revealed that engineering faculty students possess procedural knowledge about the integral concept but have conceptual deficiencies and cannot explain their answers based on procedural knowledge. Furthermore, it was determined that conceptual knowledge is more inadequate compared to procedural knowledge. Therefore, developing content that aims to strengthen the integral topic both procedurally and conceptually in undergraduate-level Analysis courses is recommended. In the literature; extensive work on the q and (p,q)-calculus has contributed greatly to describing the different generalizations of many operators involving the q and (p,q)-integers. In this study, we will present to you, that we define Gamma type operator based on (p,q)-integer. We get some direct output including asymptotic formula and error estimation in terms of modulus continuity. In addition, as a result of the research, we estimate the convergence rate of these operators in a weighted space.

DergiPark: 829906trakyaiibfThe aim of this paper is to analyze the link and the direction of the relationship between financial development and economic growth in Turkey and BRICS countries for the period of 1994-2011. Moreover, the paper di- vides the financial market into two sub-markets as banking sector and stock market to examine their individual impact on economic growth. Fixed effect panel regression method and a relatively new panel causality technique, namely Dimutrescu-Hurlin test is applied to estimate the existence of the causal link between financial development and economic growth. The results of the analysis show that there is neither linear nor causal link for stock mar- ket development and economic growth, while statistically significant relationship exists between banking sector development and economic growth in the direction of economic growth to banking sector. In a nutshell, the results suggest an evidence for demand-following pattern in Turkey and BRICS Countries

Ankara : The Department of Physics and the Institute of Engineering and Science of Bilkent University, 2010.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 2010.Includes bibliographical references leaves 67-73.Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) originate from the collective oscillations of conduction electrons coupled with photons propagating at metal-dielectric interfaces. A uniform metallic gratings change the dispersion (energy-momentum relation) of a flat metal surfaces due to the interaction of SPPs with the periodic structure. By breaking the symmetry of the periodic plasmonic structure, SPP cavities can be achieved and SPPs can be localized inside the cavity regions. The aim of this thesis is to understand the physics of phase shifted grating based plasmonic cavities. To this end, we fabricated uniform gratings and phase shifted gratings using electron beam lithography, and optically characterized these SPP structures with polarization dependent reflection spectroscopy. We verified experimental results with numerical simulations SPP propagation and localization on the grating structures. Dispersion curves of SPPs have been calculated by solving Maxwell’s wave equations using finite difference time domain method (FDTD) with appropriate boundary conditions in agreement with experimentally obtained data. We studied the dispersion curve as a function of grating profile modulation where we vary the ridge height and width of the ridges. We find that the plasmonic band gap width increases as the ridge height of the ridges in the grating increases. Optimum duty cycle of grating to observe plasmonic band gap is determined to be half of the grating period. Amount of the phase shift added to the periodicity of the uniform grating defines the energy of the cavity state, which is periodically related to the phase shift. A plasmonic cavity with a quality factor 80 has been achieved. The propagation mechanism of SPPs on coupled cavities is plasmon hopping from a given cavity to the next one.Karabıyık, MustafaM.S
