    CELLULAR ORGANISM BASED PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM FOR COMPLEX NON-LINEAR PROBLEMS

    Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is the global optimization technique that inspires many researchers to solve large scale of non-linear optimization problems. For certain complex scenarios, the premature convergence problem of PSO algorithm cannot find global optimum in dynamic environments. In this paper, a new variant motility factor based Cellular Particle Swarm Optimization (m-CPSO) algorithm is proposed which is developed by the migration behavior observed from fibroblast cellular organism to overcome this problem. The proposed m-CPSO algorithm is modeled in two different social best and individual best models. The performance of m-CPSO is tested in the benchmark and real-time data instances and compared with classical PSO. The outcome of experimental results has demonstrated that m-CPSO algorithm produces promising results than classical PSO on all evaluated environments

    Improved Canny Edges Using Cellular Based Particle Swarm Optimization Technique for Tamil Sign Digital Images

    The development of computer based sign language recognition system, for enabling communication with hearing impaired people, is an important research area that faces different challenges in the pre-processing stage of image processing, particularly in boundary detection stage. In edge detection, the possibility of achieving high quality images significantly depends on the fitting threshold values, which are generally selected using canny method, and these threshold values may vary, based on the type of images and the applications chosen. This research work presents a novel idea of establishing a hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm, which is a combination of PSO with the behavioural pattern of cellular organism in canny method, that defines an objective to find optimal threshold values for the implementation of double thresholding hysteresis method, which is viewed as a non-linear complex problem. The attempt to incorporate the model has minimized the problem of quick convergence of PSO algorithm which has improved the detection of broken edges. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is proved through the experimental observation, done in Tamil sign images to indicate the better performance of canny operator by introducing new variant based PSO

    EFFECT OF Gliricidia sepium LEAVES EXTRACTS ON Aedes aegypti: LARVICIDAL ACTIVITY

    Mosquitoes are the single most important group of insects in terms of public health significance and causing diseases. They are the vectors for the transmission of many viral pathogens and pose serious threat to human health. Chemical insecticides are widely used but they are non-selective and harmful to beneficial organisms. In the present study G. Sepium leaves extracts were used to analyse its effect against Aedes aegypti, to compare the mortality rate while using different solvent extracts of the leaf, to identify the solvent extract which give high rate of larval mortality and to characterise the compounds present in the corresponding leaf extract using phytochemical analysis. The ethanolic extract of G. sepium leaves constitute flavanoids, steroids, glycoside, carbohydrate and saponins compound. Thus it was found to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of larvae than other solvent extracts. In the statistical analysis highest significant difference was observed between 1.5g/l and 2.0g/l concentration of ethanolic extract and other extracts. However no significant difference was observed in other concentrations. The larvicidal activity of the plant extract may be attributed to the presence of active compounds like terpinoids, saponins and steroids

    AN ASSESSMENT OF POTENTIAL DRUG-DRUG INTERACTIONS IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

    Objective: To an assessment of potential drug-drug interactions in hypertensive patients in a tertiary care hospital. Methods: A prospective, observational study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital, Erode for a period of 8 mo. A sample of 480 patients was assessed for PDDIs using drug checker in Micromedex®-2.7. Results: A total of 430 patients were analyzed and it was found to be 396 (82.50%) hypertensive patients had PDDIs, and a sum total of 1160 PDDIs were observed. Potential drug-drug interactions (PDDIs) higher in female hypertensive patients [255 (64.39%)] compared to males. Incidences of PDDIs were found to be higher in the age group of 60-70 y were [177 (44.69%)] and incidences of interactions based on the duration of (4-6 d) hospital stays were 272 (68.68%). Moreover, 49.24% of patients were found to be prescribed with more than 7 drugs, with higher incidences of PDDIs. Some of the most common drug interacting pair was between aspirin and clopidogrel combination observed in 325 PDDIs in the major, with pharmacodynamics in nature. Conclusion: Clinical pharmacist ought to have the role of regular monitoring of drug therapy in identifying and preventing the medications that have the potential to cause drug-drug interactions, thereby minimizing the undesirable outcomes in drug medical care and improving the quality of care

    GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY-MASS SPECTROMETRY/MASS SPECTROMETRY ANALYSIS OF TERMINALIA CATAPPA L. NUT AND ANTIMICROBIAL ASSAY

    ABSTRACTObjective: The present study was carried out with the main objective of studying Terminalia catappa nut phyto-constituents through GC-MS/MS, aswell as its antibacterial, antifungal activities.Methods: The T. catappa nut collected was shade dried and extracted with ethanol, the obtained ethanol extract was used for the whole study- GCMS/MS, antimicrobial activity.Results: The results of GC-MS/MS showed 12 peaks. Among the 12 peaks obtained, the highest peak area percent of 48.58 for Propane, 1,1-diethoxyand24.36% for t-Butyl hydrogen phthalate followed by 3-Isopropoxy-1,1,1,7,7,7-hexamethyl-3,5,5-tris (trimethylsiloxy) tetrasiloxane showing 12.80as peak area percent and all the other compound was found to be moderate in peak area percent which was in the range of 3.52-1.10 except β-l-Arabinopyranoside methyl, and Cyclopropanecarboxylic acid, oct-3-en-2-yl ester as its peak area percent was very low showing 0.08 and 0.13. Theantibacterial activity was good with Escherichia coli when compared to Staphylococcus aureus likewise, the antifungal activity was good with Candidaalbicans on comparison with Aspergillus niger.Conclusion: The naturally occurring non –nutrient plant chemicals called as phytochemicals especially phenolics – a natural antioxidant containedin T. catappa nut would have contributed for its antibacterial, antifungal properties by interfering with the phospholipid bilayer of the cell membraneand destroying the enzymes required for cellular processes ensuring its therapeutic potential. The variation in therapeutic potential depends on thenutrient content of the soil and other climatic conditions.
