    CBMIR: Content Based Medical Image Retrieval Using Multilevel Hybrid Approach

    The problem of retrieval and managing of medical images has become more important due to its scalability and rich information contained in it. In day to day activities, as more as medical images were converted into digital form. Due to its nature, the need for efficient and simple access to this data is essential one. This paper proposed a novel approach namely “content based medical image retrieval using multilevel hybrid approach" to manage and retrieval of this data.This work has been implemented as four levels. In each level, the retrieval performance of the work has been improved. The result of this work has been compared with some of the existing works that are made as literature review on this work

    Taxonomy of the order Mononegavirales: update 2016

    In 2016, the order Mononegavirales was emended through the addition of two new families (Mymonaviridae and Sunviridae), the elevation of the paramyxoviral subfamily Pneumovirinae to family status (Pneumoviridae), the addition of five free-floating genera (Anphevirus, Arlivirus, Chengtivirus, Crustavirus, and Wastrivirus), and several other changes at the genus and species levels. This article presents the updated taxonomy of the order Mononegavirales as now accepted by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV)

    Large-Eddy Simulations of Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence in Heliophysics and Astrophysics

    We live in an age in which high-performance computing is transforming the way we do science. Previously intractable problems are now becoming accessible by means of increasingly realistic numerical simulations. One of the most enduring and most challenging of these problems is turbulence. Yet, despite these advances, the extreme parameter regimes encountered in space physics and astrophysics (as in atmospheric and oceanic physics) still preclude direct numerical simulation. Numerical models must take a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach, explicitly computing only a fraction of the active dynamical scales. The success of such an approach hinges on how well the model can represent the subgrid-scales (SGS) that are not explicitly resolved. In addition to the parameter regime, heliophysical and astrophysical applications must also face an equally daunting challenge: magnetism. The presence of magnetic fields in a turbulent, electrically conducting fluid flow can dramatically alter the coupling between large and small scales, with potentially profound implications for LES/SGS modeling. In this review article, we summarize the state of the art in LES modeling of turbulent magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) ows. After discussing the nature of MHD turbulence and the small-scale processes that give rise to energy dissipation, plasma heating, and magnetic reconnection, we consider how these processes may best be captured within an LES/SGS framework. We then consider several special applications in heliophysics and astrophysics, assessing triumphs, challenges,and future directions

    Occupational health hazards of trichloroethylene among workers in relation to altered mRNA expression of cell cycle regulating genes (p53, p21, bax and bcl-2) and PPARA

    Trichloroethylene (TCE) is widely used as a metal degreaser in industrial processes. The present study reports on the effects of TCE exposure on workers employed in the lock industries. To ensure exposure of the workers to TCE, its toxic metabolites, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), dichloroacetic acid (DCA) and trichloroethanol (TCEOH) were detected in the plasma of the subjects through solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography-electron capture detection. TCA, DCA and TCEOH were detected in the range of 0.004–2.494 Όg/mL, 0.01–3.612 Όg/mL and 0.002–0.617 Όg/mL, respectively. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis revealed up-regulated expression of p53 (2.4-fold; p < 0.05), p21 (2-fold; p < 0.01), bax (2.9-fold; p < 0.01) mRNAs and down-regulated expression of bcl-2 (67%; p < 0.05) mRNAs, indicating DNA damaging potential of these metabolites. No effects were observed on the levels of p16 and c-myc mRNAs. Further, as TCA and DCA, the ligand of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPARA), are involved in the process of hepatocarcinogenesis in rodents, we examined expression of PPARA mRNA and let-7c miRNA in the workers. No statistically significant differences in expression of PPARA mRNA and let-7c miRNA in patients were observed as compared to values in controls. Dehydroepiandosterone sulfate (DHEAS) is a reported endogenous ligand of PPARA so its competitive role was also studied. We observed decreased levels of DHEAS hormone in the subjects. Hence, its involvement in mediation of the observed changes in the levels of various mRNAs analyzed in this study appears unlikely

    &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Introduction: &lt;/strong&gt;Alcoholic liver disease or alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) is damage to the liver caused by excessive alcohol consumption, resulting in serious and life-threatening complications such as cirrhosis, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic failure, hepatic encephalopathy and malignancy. Liver cirrhosis is defined as diffuse hepatic fibrosis with replacement of normal liver architecture by nodules. There are also lesser known sequalae including suppression of hematopoiesis due to its toxic effects, hypersplenism and nutritional deficiencies of folic acid and other vitamins. Anemia, leukocytosis, leucopenia and thrombocytopenia occurs in ALD. Most of these hematological parameters are underdiagnosed and understudied. Hence, Manipur being a high ALD prevalence state necessitates this study to evaluate the hematological profile in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis and to determine the association between various hematological parameters and different Model of End stage Liver Disease (MELD) scores.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Methods:&lt;/strong&gt; This cross-sectional study was conducted in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, Manipur from January 2021 to October 2022.Alcoholic liver cirrhosis patients above 18 years attending Medicine OPD, Liver clinic and those admitted in Medicine ward were enrolled. Blood samples for complete Hemogram, liver function test, kidney function test, prothrombin time, INR, serology (HbsAg, Anti HCV Ab, HIV 1&amp;2) and ANA were collected. Ultrasound whole abdomen and Chest X ray were done whenever indicated. Different types of anemia, leucopenia, leukocytosis, thrombocytopenia in different groups of MELD scores were studied.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Result:&lt;/strong&gt; A total of 146 alcoholic liver cirrhosis patients were enrolled in our study. The mean ± SD age of the patients was 48.63±10.00 years with majority males (91.8%). Anemia detected in &gt;95% of the patients. Severe anemia was detected in 31.5%, moderate anemia in 49.3% and mild anemia in 15.1%. Most of them (47.9%) had leucocytosis and thrombocytopenia was seen in 78.1% patients. Prolonged PT was seen &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;in 89.1% of the patients and elevated INR present in 69.9% of patients. Majority of patients had MELD score between 10-19 and 20-29 (34.2% each). Only 4.1% had MELD score &gt; 40. There is statistically significant association between MELD score of the patients with severity of anemia (p&lt;0.05) and leucocyte count while it is not significant with thrombocytopenia (p=0.139).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Conclusion:&lt;/strong&gt; The prevalence of anemia in the present study was found to be 94.9% with predominant normocytic normochromic anemia (71.2%). There is significant association between MELD score of the patients with severity of anemia and leukocytosis while association with thrombocytopenia was insignificant. This study can now determine the stage at which emergent intervention could help in the recovery and effectively reduce morbidity and mortality of alcoholic cirrhosis patients.&nbsp;&lt;/p&gt
