The applicability of the catalytic wet-oxidation to CELSS
The wet oxidation catalysis of Au, Pd, Pt, Rh or Ru on a ceramic honeycomb carrier was traced in detail by 16 to 20 repetitive batch tests each. As a result, Pt or Pd on a honeycomb carrier was shown to catalyze complete nitrogen gasification as N2. Though the catalysts which realize both complete nitrogen gasification and complete oxidation could not be found, the Ru+Rh catalyst was found to be most promising. Ru honeycomb catalyzed both nitrification and nitrogen gasification
Evolution of Callosal and Cortical Lesions on MRI in Marchiafava-Bignami Disease
We report on serial MRI findings of cerebral lesions in a 55-year-old man with severe Marchiafava-Bignami disease (MBD). The first MRI change on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images was hyperintensity in the genu of the corpus callosum and in the frontoparietal cortex. Following this change, a splenial lesion appeared. The first MRI change in the genu of the corpus callosum was not associated with a change in diffusion on diffusion-weighted MRI imaging, suggesting a pathological change involving vasogenic edema. Development of cortical lesions in the initial stage confirms that cortical lesions result from the primary pathogenetic process induced by alcoholic intoxication and malnutrition in MBD
Direct Observation of Nonequivalent Fermi-Arc States of Opposite Surfaces in Noncentrosymmetric Weyl Semimetal NbP
We have performed high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy
(ARPES) on noncentrosymmetric Weyl semimetal candidate NbP, and determined the
electronic states of both Nb- and P-terminated surfaces corresponding to the
"opposite" surfaces of a polar crystal. We revealed a drastic difference in the
Fermi-surface topology between the opposite surfaces, whereas the Fermi arcs on
both surfaces are likely terminated at the surface projection of the same bulk
Weyl nodes. Comparison of the ARPES data with our first-principles band
calculations suggests notable difference in electronic structure at the
Nb-terminated surface between theory and experiment. The present result opens a
platform for realizing exotic quantum phenomena arising from unusual surface
properties of Weyl semimetals.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Magnetism and superconductivity in TaSC (M = Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu)
Magnetic properties of TaSC ( = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu) have
been studied using SQUID DC and AC magnetic susceptibility. In these systems
magnetic ions are intercalated into van der Waals gaps between
adjacent S layers of host superconductor TaSC.
FeTaSC is a quasi 2D -like antiferromagnet on the
triangular lattice. It undergoes an antiferromagnetic phase transition at
(= 117 K). The irreversible effect of magnetization occurs below
, reflecting the frustrated nature of the system. The AF phase coexists
with two superconducting phases with the transition temperatures
K and K. CoTaSC is a quasi 2D Ising-like
antiferromagnet on the triangular lattice. The antiferromagnetic phase below
K coexists with a superconducting phase below K.
Both NiTaSC and CuTaSC are
superconductors with ( K for Ni and 6.4 K for Cu) and
(= 4.6 K common to TaSC). Very small effective magnetic
moments suggest that Ni and Cu spins are partially delocalized.Comment: 15 pages, 17 figures, and 3 table
Electromagnetic Response of a Superconductor: Effect of Order Parameter Collective Modes
Effects of order parameter collective modes on electromagnetic response are
studied for a clean spin-triplet superconductor with orbital
symmetry, which has been proposed as a candidate pairing symmetry for
SrRuO. It is shown that the superconductor has
characteristic massive collective modes analogous to the clapping mode in the
A-phase of superfluid He. We discuss the contribution from the collective
modes to ultrasound attenuation and electromagnetic absorption. We show that in
the electromagnetic absorption spectrum the clapping mode gives rise to a
resonance peak well below the pair breaking frequency, while the ultrasound
attenuation is hardly influenced by the collective excitations.Comment: 4 pages RevTex, 1 eps figur
