Optimal polymer slugs injection curves
In the paper we study miscible injection of liquids with decreasing viscosity
in two-dimensional geometry. Polymer flooding of oil fields is our prototype
model. Based on several one-dimensional approximate models we give rigorous
formulation of the graded viscosity banks (GVB) technology which helps to save
polymer by injecting several slugs with gradual decrease of viscosity instead
of one slug. Limiting injection curves when number of slugs tends to infinity
is calculated
Experimental and Theoretical Investigation into the Effect of the Electron Velocity Distribution on Chaotic Oscillations in an Electron Beam under Virtual Cathode Formation Conditions
The effect of the electron transverse and longitudinal velocity spread at the
entrance to the interaction space on wide-band chaotic oscillations in intense
multiple-velocity beams is studied theoretically and numerically under the
conditions of formation of a virtual cathode. It is found that an increase in
the electron velocity spread causes chaotization of virtual cathode
oscillations. An insight into physical processes taking place in a virtual
cathode multiple velocity beam is gained by numerical simulation. The
chaotization of the oscillations is shown to be associated with additional
electron structures, which were separated out by constructing charged particle
distribution functions.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure
The article presents the novel data of fractional granulometric testing on the Syuzevskaya diamond placer located in the northern part of the Chikman-Nyar depression. The geological section was studied to a depth of 42,0 m. 18 samples weighing up to 200 kg each were taken, selected sectionally at two-meter intervals and graded into 10 granulometric classes on the gamma-Baturin scale. The obtained results have important search value: 1) the curve of the debris distribution by size is typical for the mature alluvium of the foothill river; 2) the paleo river alluvium is formed by a high dynamics flow and is fairly well sorted by size, which is a favorable sign for the concentration of large diamonds and indicates a slight dilution with non-diamond-bearing detrital material; 3) the presence of a typical mature alluvium in the paleovally indicates a long time of its existence, which is also a favorable search sign for industrial diamond placers. The methodology and results of the study can be used at various stages of the exploration cycle for placer minerals, including diamonds, all over the worldВпервые приведены данные дробного гранулометрического анализа отложений Сюзёвской россыпи алмазов, расположенной в северной части Чикман-Нярской депрессии на Среднем Урале.
The development of the infrastructure of transport interchange hubs is currently necessary to meet the growing demand for passenger services and to prevent infrastructural constraints on technological modernisation of entire transport system. Large-scale infrastructure projects are of a pronounced complex nature, involving many related industries in their sphere, which ultimately leads to an additional increase in GDP. A modern transport interchange hub is a public and business centre that ensures the quality of services, safety, technological reliability and creates an active business environment based on development of passenger infrastructure. Considering the latest global trends in the field of passenger transportation that englobe multimodality, speed, comfort and safety of passenger transportation, there is a pronounced need to develop modern transport interchange hubs.Minimisation of passenger transfer time between interacting modes of transport at TIH can be achieved by coordinating contact timetables of different modes of transport. To do this, it is necessary first, to solve the problem of determining the optimal mode of interaction between ground urban passenger and rail transport. The objective of the study described in the article is to determine the mode of supply of the units of ground urban passenger transport, which ensures the minimum time for a passenger to stay at TIH in accordance with the timetable of electric trains regarding the considered TIH. To reduce the dimension of the problem, it is assumed that all electric trains will have the same composition. The methods of scheduling theory were used to solve the problem in the context of the study that resulted in a formalised problem of determining the optimal mode of interaction between ground urban passenger transport in transport interchange hubs illustrated by the example of interaction of rail and urban road transport and considering all existing constraints.
Suppression of Octahedral Tilts and Associated Changes of Electronic Properties at Epitaxial Oxide Heterostructure Interfaces
Epitaxial oxide interfaces with broken translational symmetry have emerged as
a central paradigm behind the novel behaviors of oxide superlattices. Here, we
use scanning transmission electron microscopy to demonstrate a direct,
quantitative unit-cell-by-unit-cell mapping of lattice parameters and oxygen
octahedral rotations across the BiFeO3-La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 interface to elucidate
how the change of crystal symmetry is accommodated. Combined with low-loss
electron energy loss spectroscopy imaging, we demonstrate a mesoscopic
antiferrodistortive phase transition and elucidate associated changes in
electronic properties in a thin layer directly adjacent to the interface

A dynamic Bayesian optimized active recommender system for curiosity-driven Human-in-the-loop automated experiments
Optimization of experimental materials synthesis and characterization through
active learning methods has been growing over the last decade, with examples
ranging from measurements of diffraction on combinatorial alloys at
synchrotrons, to searches through chemical space with automated synthesis
robots for perovskites. In virtually all cases, the target property of interest
for optimization is defined apriori with limited human feedback during
operation. In contrast, here we present the development of a new type of human
in the loop experimental workflow, via a Bayesian optimized active recommender
system (BOARS), to shape targets on the fly, employing human feedback. We
showcase examples of this framework applied to pre-acquired piezoresponse force
spectroscopy of a ferroelectric thin film, and then implement this in real time
on an atomic force microscope, where the optimization proceeds to find
symmetric piezoresponse amplitude hysteresis loops. It is found that such
features appear more affected by subsurface defects than the local domain
structure. This work shows the utility of human-augmented machine learning
approaches for curiosity-driven exploration of systems across experimental
domains. The analysis reported here is summarized in Colab Notebook for the
purpose of tutorial and application to other data:
