The experiment was carried out in the apiary of a Lithuanian beekeeper and the effect of the organic selenium preparation SELENOPIRAN (Russia) on the development and productivity of bee families was studied. Two analogous groups of bee families (control and experimental) containing five families each were formed. During the spring stage of development the bees from the experimental group were given 4.5 mg of the organic selenium preparation SELENOPIRAN together with the syrup. As a result of the experiment it was found that organinic selenium activated the development of bee families early in spring and stimulated the laying capacity of queen bees by 35.8% (/5<().O5) higher than that from the family of the control groupVytauto Didžiojo universitetasŽemės ūkio akademij
