Biographical praxis and anthropological knowledge. Searching for key points in a dynamics of development combining plural and personal dimensio
This article presents some anthropological elements from the analysis of written narratives on existential standpoints regarding our being-in-the-world in adult education. These elements allow a dialog in order to place the efforts of people that are in a process of existential based on a personal project. This project includes changing, and therefore an evaluation of resources which should be adapted, developed and acquired
Effect of platinum on the growth rate of the oxide scale formed on cast nickel aluminide intermetallic alloys
Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis ( TGA) and Scanning Electron M icroscopy ( SEM ) data of the initial stages of oxidation of Ni50Al50 and Ni40Pt10Al50 alloys of low and high sulfur content at 900◦ C and 1100◦ C are reported. The results show that the addition of Pt promotes the growth of the transient θ- Al2O3 oxide scale. This effect is particularly sensitive in the initial stages of oxidation at 1100◦ C where Pt considerably increases the total mass gain. It is attenuated in the presence of a high sulfur content in the alloy, indicating a competitive effect of Pt and S on the segregation of Al. The slower θ-to- α transition observed in the presence of Pt leads to an extended lifetime of the θ phase layer, which is proposed to be benecial to the relaxation of the stresses created by the growth of α-Al2O3
Ni–W diffusion barrier: Its influence on the oxidation behaviour of a β-(Ni,Pt)Al coated fourth generation nickel-base superalloy
A Ni–W base diffusion barrier (DB) has been developed to limit interdiffusion between a fourth generation Ni-base superalloy (MCNG) and a Pt-modified nickel aluminide bondcoat. After long term oxidation, the DB layer permits to reduce the Al depletion in the coating and to delay the phase transformations in the coating. But despite this result, the oxidation behaviour of the system with DB is slightly worse than without the DB. This difference may be caused by the addition of S and/orWin the coating of the system with the DB. The DB layer also delays the Secondary Reaction Zone (SRZ) formation. Nevertheless, the propagation of the SRZ is similar in systems with and without a DB, with growth kinetics which are driven by interdiffusion
What Does AMH Tell Us in Pediatric Disorders of Sex Development?
Disorders of sex development (DSD) are conditions where genetic, gonadal and/or internal/external genital sex are discordant. In many cases, serum testosterone determination is insufficient for the differential diagnosis. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), a glycoprotein hormone produced in large amounts by immature testicular Sertoli cells, may be an extremely helpful parameter. In undervirilized 46,XY DSD, AMH is low in gonadal dysgenesis while it is normal or high in androgen insensitivity and androgen synthesis defects. Virilization of a 46,XX newborn indicates androgen action during fetal development, either from testicular tissue or from the adrenals or placenta. Recognizing congenital adrenal hyperplasia is usually quite easy, but other conditions may be more difficult to identify. In 46,XX newborns, serum AMH measurement can easily detect the existence of testicular tissue, leading to the diagnosis of ovotesticular DSD. In sex chromosomal DSD, where the gonads are more or less dysgenetic, AMH levels are indicative of the amount of functioning testicular tissue. Finally, in boys with a persistent Müllerian duct syndrome, undetectable or very low serum AMH suggests a mutation of the AMH gene, whereas normal AMH levels orient towards a mutation of the AMH receptor.Fil: Josso, Nathalie.
Target-depth estimation in active sonar
International audienceIn active sonar, the objectives are to detect, localize and classify an underwater target. Azimuth and range are often used in anti-submarine warfare to localize targets. The depth may also be used as the key tactical information for strategy purposes or as a good feature for target classification or discrimination. Two dimensional arrays as ank arrays, cylindrical arrays, and hullmounted arrays have access to elevation angles. Even linear towed arrays can give some information about the elevation using the different conical bearings measured when multipath propagation arises. In the context of long ranges and summer Mediterranean sound-speed profile (SSP), this paper presents a new target-depth estimation method, which uses elevation and arrival time measures from one sonar ping in a multipath environment. This method is based on ray back-propagation with a probabilistic approach. This localization algorithm minimizes the mean-squared error of elevation angles at the receiver and arrival times between a model and measures. This method is tested through Monte-Carlo simulations of classic active sonar scenarios and using experimental data from a real reduced-scaled tank. In active sonar, acoustic waves can take the same path on the way back or another path, so ray path combinations can occur. Our localization method discusses also about this ray identification, or how these combined acoustic paths were managed
As figuras de ligação nos relatos de formação: ligações formadoras, deformadoras e transformadoras
Connecting figures are represented in this text by the metaphor of sailor knots. This metaphor tries to impart the feeling that the connection is, simultaneously, that which gives support, and that which binds and maintains a certain stability; that which allows the movement within a given perimeter, but also that which precludes leaving this perimeter; that which obstructs, which can make hurt when we go for freedom and fail, that which dissolves more or less easily when we find the freedom to move. The knots are also a reference to the complexity of the connection; they tie two threads or ropes to many threads, or to even more. There is also this metaphor of the two and of the larger number. There is not a human being who is not reconnected, connected, or who is someone like Robinson Crusoe; hence the importance of the theme of the connection in understanding the process of our formation and of our knowledge.O procedimento de histórias de vida, centrado na reconstrução das histórias de formação que praticamos há mais de vinte anos, alterna tempos de trabalho individual e tempos de trabalho em grupo articulados a uma leitura dos relatos com olhares cruzados.
New wavelet based space-frequency analysis methods applied to the characterisation of 3-dimensional engineering surface textures.
The aim of this work was to use resources coming from the field of signal and image processing to make progress solving real problems of surface texture characterisation. A measurement apparatus like a microscope gives a representation of a surface textures that can be seen as an image. This is actually an image representing the relief of the surface texture. From the image processing point of view, this problem takes the form of texture analysis. The introduction of the problem as one of texture analysis is presented as well as the proposed solution: a wavelet based method for texture characterisation. Actually, more than a simple wavelet transform, an entire original characterisation method is described. A new tool based on the frequency normalisation of the well-known wavelet transform has been designed for the purpose of this study and is introduced, explained and illustrated in this thesis. This tool allows the drawing of a real space-frequency map of any image and especially textured images. From this representation, which can be compared to music notation, simple parameters are calculated. They give information about texture features on several scales and can be compared to hybrid parameters commonly used in surface roughness characterisation. Finally, these parameters are used to feed a decision-making system. In order to come back to the first motivation of the study, this analysis strategy is applied to real engineered surface characterisation problems. The first application is the discrimination of surface textures, which superficially have similar characteristics according to some standard parameters. The second application is the monitoring of a grinding process. A new approach to the problem of surface texture analysis is introduced. The principle of this new approach, well known in image processing, is not to give an absolute measure of the characteristics of a surface, but to classify textures relative to each other in a space where the distance between them indicates their similarity
