Phobos eclipse detection on Mars : theory and practice

    Get PDF
We present a general approach to study solar eclipses by Phobos on Mars: its parameterization and prediction. The validation of the model and the involved parameters is made with the already observed eclipses by previous Mars missions. Eclipse prediction is applied for the past Mars lander missions: Viking, Pathfinder and Phoenix, as well as for the future Mars MetNet Precursor Mission. A successful detection of eclipses could be used for the localization of landers and to study atmospheric properties. We also consider the data analysis, with special emphasis in the tomographic method to identify events which are very localized in space and time. Large computation requirements are needed for the implemented methods. To this propose an efficient Cloud Computing Network Infrastructure has been used. Menetelmien toteuttamiseen vaaditaan suuri laskentakapasiteetti. Tämän toteuttamiseen on käytetty pilvilaskentaa

Assessing orbital vs. volcanic control on carbon cycle during the Early Cretaceous

The interval from the Valanginian to the Barremian stages (137?121 Ma; Early Cretaceous) ispunctuated by several episodes of environmental changes, accompanied by shifts in weatheringintensity on the continents and changes in the Tethyan neritic carbonate production. Wesynthetize here the astrochronology of two recent studies performed in the Neuquén basin,Vocontian Basin and Subbetic Domain (Aguirre-Urreta et al., 2019; Martinez et al., 2020), anchoredto CA-ID-TIMS U-Pb ages, which conclusions have been included in the Geologic Time Scale 2020(Gale et al, in press). We applied this time scale to a compilation of carbon-isotope ratio frombelemnites and proxies of detrital supply in the Tethyan area (Vocontian Basin and SubbeticDomain). From this compilation, we show that the episodes of environmental changes are pacedby a 2.4-Myr cycle and, with a lower amplitude, a 1.2-Myr cycle. In addition, the new time scaleshows the synchronicity between the Weissert Event and the Parana-Etendeka Large IgneousProvince. In the series of carbon-isotope ratios measured on belemnite rostra, the amplitude ofthe 2.4-Myr cycle is twice higher during the Valanginian than in the Late Barremian and threetimes higher than in the Hauterivian and Early Barremian, suggesting that the activity of theParana-Etendeka Large Igneous Province amplified the initial orbital forcing to trigger theenvironmental changes observed during the Mid-Valanginian.Fil: Martinez, M.. In this letter I propose the name "Proliferative Multifocal Leukoplakia" with the goal of reducing under-diagnosis of this disease, improve the early diagnosis, try to make an early therapy and control, and prevent its malignant transformation

A Formal [3 1 2] Alkene Addition to Benzhydrol Cations. A Practical and Mild Methodology for the Synthesis of Substituted 1-Arylindanes and Related Compounds

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT We report the single step synthesis of several 1-arylindanes in good yield via a formal [3 þ 2] atom cycloaddition. cycloaddition relies on the Lewis acid activation of a bibenzylic alcohol in the presence of an alkene. The cation generated from the alcohol can be trapped by the alkene to afford a new benzylic cation which can then undergoes cyclization leading to 1-arylindanes with three stereogenic centres

Effects of ezetimibe on markers of synthesis and absorption of cholesterol in high-risk patients with elevated C-reactive protein

AbstractAimsHigh-risk subjects with elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) are at high risk for cardiovascular events and frequently require potent statins or combined lipid-lowering therapy to achieve lipid targets and decrease inflammation. Our study aimed at evaluating the effects of three lipid-modifying therapies on LDL-cholesterol, CRP levels and markers of cholesterol absorption and synthesis.Main methodsA prospective intervention study was performed in high cardiovascular risk individuals receiving atorvastatin 10mg daily for four weeks. Those with CRP≥2.0mg/L were randomized to another four-week treatment period with atorvastatin 40mg, ezetimibe 10mg or the combination of atorvastatin 40mg / ezetimibe 10mg. Lipids, markers of cholesterol absorption (campesterol and β-sitosterol), and synthesis (desmosterol), as well as CRP were quantified at baseline and end of study.Key findingsOne hundred and twenty two individuals were included. Atorvastatin alone or combined with ezetimibe reduced both LDL-cholesterol and CRP (P<0.002 vs. baseline; Wilcoxon); ezetimibe did not modify CRP. Ezetimibe-based therapies reduced absorption markers and their ratios to cholesterol (P<0.0001 vs. baseline, for all; Wilcoxon), whereas atorvastatin alone increased campesterol/cholesterol and β-sitosterol/cholesterol ratios (P<0.05 vs. baseline; Wilcoxon). In addition, ezetimibe also increased desmosterol and desmosterol/cholesterol ratio (P<0.0001 vs. baseline; Wilcoxon).SignificanceThese results contribute to understanding the link between cellular cholesterol homeostasis, inflammation and lipid-modifying therapies. Our findings highlight the broader benefit of combined therapy with a potent statin and ezetimibe decreasing inflammation, and preventing increase in cholesterol biosynthesis, an effect not observed with ezetimibe alone

The purpose of this report is to provide some of the most important factors of the clinical application of the psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. Remembering the most important considerations of this treatment, we will expose the basic conditions for his construction. This treatment has some special features, which we have to respect in detail.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
