Superconducting Kondo phase in an orbitally-separated bilayer
The nature of superconductivity in heavy-fermion materials is a subject under
intense debate, and controlling this many-body state is central for its
eventual understanding. Here, we examine how proximity effects may change this
phenomenon, by investigating the effects of an additional metallic layer on the
top of a Kondo-lattice, and allowing for pairing in the former. We analyze a
bilayer Kondo Lattice Model with an on-site Hubbard interaction, , on the
additional layer, using a mean-field approach. For , we notice a drastic
change in the density-of-states due to multiple-orbital singlet resonating
combinations. It destroys the well-known Kondo insulator at half filling,
leading to a metallic ground state, which, in turn, enhances antiferromagnetism
through the polarization of the conduction electrons. For , a
superconducting Kondo state sets in at zero temperature, with the occurrence of
unconventional pairing amplitudes involving -electrons. We establish that
this remarkable feature is only possible due to the proximity effects of the
additional layer. At finite temperatures we find that the critical
superconducting temperature, , decreases with the interlayer
hybridization. We have also established that a zero temperature superconducting
amplitude tracks , which reminisces the BCS proportionality between the
superconducting gap and .Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure
Real cockpit proposal for flight simulation with airbus A32x models: an overview description
This paper describes the several steps to build an elaborate flight simulator cockpit, where the hardware is designed
based on Mechatronic principles and the proposed software was developed using agile methodologies
to create a Cyber-Physical System (CPS). Furthermore, this research attempts to simulate the real environment
from an aircraft as close as possible with a real scale developed cockpit. Based on this, the presented paper
contributions include: (1) The implementation of a complex dynamic system such as a CPS, where the Mechatronic
system is part of it; (2) The deployment of a scale model of an Airbus A32x aircraft (one of the most
used), integrating into a mathematical model adapted to the operation of an aircraft flight simulation system,
regarding the physical forces involved. This project is also used to captivate the students’ motivation to the
areas of technology such as electronics and programming and permits its development as a student project and
thesis. Results allow validating the proposed cockpit. This work has been supported by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the Project Scope: UIDB/05757/2020.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Reversão de dipolo: um achado crítico em um paciente com epilepsia parcial benigna da infância com ponta centrotemporal
We describe the case of a 15-year-old boy who had the diagnosis of benign partial epilepsy of childhood with centrotemporal spike. During the EEG a subclinical electrographic seizure was recorded. The discharges were clearly electropositive in T4 with positive phase reversal between derivations F8-T4 and T4-T6. The whole episode lasted less than one minute (45 sec). The interictal right medio-temporal spikes reemerged after 60 sec and were electronegative in the same location after the end of the electrographic seizures. The mechanisms underlying this uncommon pattern on EEG is not well stablished.
The subclinical rhythmic electrographic discharge in adults (SREDA) has been rarely reported. We describe the case of a 71 year-old man with transient ischemic attack, whose EEG showed an atypical evolution of this uncommon pattern. The computed tomography scan and cerebrospinal fluid were normal. We are not aware of any other report in the literature with this atypical evolution of SREDA.A descarga eletrográfica rítmica subclínica do adulto tem sido raramente referida na literatura.
Computer-controlled ion-selective electrode switch
The construction of a microcomputer-controlled electrode switch for
use in potentiometric determinations is described. This can be coupled to most of the analytical equipment usually found in laboratories, to enable a setting up of automatic systems capable of performing sequential determinations with several ion-selective
electrodes. The assessment of its analytical usage and behaviour are discussed
Usefulness of a detector inlet overpressure and stream splitting in FIA systems to deal with food sample pre-treatment requirements. Application to wine analysis
The use of stream splitting to obtain high sampling rate flow injection analysis (FIA) large dispersion manifolds to deal with pre-treatment requirements in the analysis of food components with a high concentration is described. This procedure is illustrated in the FIA determination of calcium using an atomic absorption detector and in the colorimetric determination of phosphate in wines. These manifolds proved to be an advantageous alternative to those including mixing chambers and diluters, as they are simpler and provide higher sampling rates (60–240 samples h−1 are achieved). Also described here is the use of an overpressure at the entrance to the atomic absorption nebulizer to minimize matrix physical interferences, by presenting the results obtained for the FIA—atomic absorption copper determination in wines. The results obtained for several wine samples by the developed FIA methodologies were in good agreement with those provided by the reference methods
Quality of Life in Menopausal Women: A Brazilian Portuguese Version of the Cervantes Scale
We present the translation, cultural adaptation and validation of the Cervantes Scale to Brazilian Portuguese. The Cervantes Scale (CS) was originally described in Spanish, and is a tool to measure health-related quality of life in perimenopausal and menopausal women. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 180 women aged 45 to 64 years. In addition to the CS, the following questionnaires were applied: Women's Health Questionnaire (WHQ) and abbreviated version of the World Health Organization's Quality of Life Questionnaire (Abbreviated WHOQOL-bref). In conclusion, the Brazilian Portuguese version of the CS is easy to apply and understand. The evaluation of its psychometric properties was satisfactory, and it can be applied to assess health-related QoL in Brazilian perimenopausal and menopausal women
