A Tutte polynomial inequality for lattice path matroids
Let be a matroid without loops or coloops and let be its Tutte
polynomial. In 1999 Merino and Welsh conjectured that holds for graphic matroids. Ten years later, Conde and
Merino proposed a multiplicative version of the conjecture which implies the
original one. In this paper we prove the multiplicative conjecture for the
family of lattice path matroids (generalizing earlier results on uniform and
Catalan matroids). In order to do this, we introduce and study particular
lattice path matroids, called snakes, used as building bricks to indeed
establish a strengthening of the multiplicative conjecture as well as a
complete characterization of the cases in which equality holds.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, improved exposition/minor correction
Codimension two and three Kneser Transversals
Let be integers with and let
be a finite set of points in . A -plane
transversal to the convex hulls of all -sets of is called Kneser
transversal. If in addition contains points of , then
is called complete Kneser transversal. In this paper, we present various
results on the existence of (complete) Kneser transversals for .
In order to do this, we introduce the notions of stability and instability for
(complete) Kneser transversals. We first give a stability result for
collections of points in with
and . We then present a description of
Kneser transversals of collections of points in
with for . We show that
either is a complete Kneser transversal or it contains
points and the remaining points of are matched in pairs in
such a way that intersects the corresponding closed segments determined by
them. The latter leads to new upper and lower bounds (in the case when and ) for defined as the maximum positive integer
such that every set of points (not necessarily in general position) in
admit a Kneser transversal. Finally, by using oriented matroid
machinery, we present some computational results (closely related to the
stability and unstability notions). We determine the existence of (complete)
Kneser transversals for each of the different order types of
configurations of points in
Guidelines towards secure SSL pinning in mobile applicationsand
Security is a major concern in web applications
for so long, but it is only recently that the use of mobile
applications has reached the level of web services. This way,
we are taking OWASP Top 10 Mobile as our starting point
to secure mobile applications. Insecure communication is one
of the most important topics to be considered. In fact, many
mobile applications do not even implement SSL/TLS validations
or may have SSL/TLS vulnerabilities. This paper explains how
an application can be fortified using secure SSL pinning, and
offers a three-step process as an improvement of OWASP Mobile
recommendations to avoid SSL pinning bypassing. Therefore,
following the process described in this paper, mobile application
developers may establish a secure SSL/TLS communication.Ministry of Science and Technology of Spain ECLIPSE RTI2018-094283-B-C33Junta de Andalucía the PIRAMIDE and METAMORFOSIS projectsEuropean Regional Development Fund (ERDF/FEDER)Universidad de Sevilla Cátedra de Telefónica “Inteligencia en la red
Effects of branch dimensions of fodder trees on their utilization by ruminants
1 recurso en línea (páginas 25-38)To determine the stem measurements (length and diameter) up to which forage trees (Leucaena leucocephala, LL; Albizia lebbeck, AL; Gliricidia sepium, GS; Moringa oleifera, MO; Samanea saman, SS) are consumed by cattle and sheep (young or adult), these foliages were daily offered to the animals and the minimal diameters of the refused branches were measured (maximal diameter of the eaten fragment). More than 300 dimensions of stem length vs. its corresponding diameter were paired. It was done a triple analysis of variance (5x2x2) being the factors: forage species, animal species and animal age. A simple regression analysis was done between length and diameter of the stalks, as well as a probability test of Z to consider 5% refuse of the foliage by the animals. The results showed that the diameters of the eaten stems are different for each foliage species, being GS>LL>MO>SS>AL, this means that each one has to be cut at a different dimension, this cut must be different for cattle and sheep, but not between ages of them and that sheep do not consume any stem of SS and GS. Finally, it is recommended the exact dimensions of the stems (diameter and length) to cut each species and the evaluation methodology to be used for other fodder evaluations.
Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Patients with Heart Failure of Hypertensive Etiology: Analysis of Colombian Heart Failure Registry (RECOLFACA)
Introduction: Arterial hypertension represents one of the main comorbidities observed in patients with heart failure (HF) and one of the main risk factors for its development. Despite this, studies assessing this hypertensive etiology are scarce in Latin America. Our objective was to analyze the prevalence of HF of hypertensive etiology and evaluate its prognosis in patients enrolled in the Colombian Heart Failure Registry (RECOLFACA by its Spanish acronym). Methods: RECOLFACA recruited adult patients diagnosed with HF in 60 centers in Colombia between 2017 and 2019. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to assess factors associated with primary outcomes in patients with hypertensive HF. A p value <0.05 was considered significant. All statistical tests were two-tailed. Results: Out of the total number of patients evaluated in RECOLFACA (n = 2,514), 804 had a diagnosis of HF with hypertensive etiology (31.9%). These patients were less frequently males and had a significantly older age and lower prevalence of comorbidities than those with HF of other etiologies. Additionally, patients with hypertensive HF had a higher prevalence of HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) (34.1% vs. 28.3%; p = 0.004). Finally, type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease diagnosis, and NYHA class IV were classified as independent mortality risk factors. Conclusions: Hypertensive HF represents about one-third of the total number of patients with HF in RECOLFACA. Compared with HF of other etiologies, it presents a differential clinical profile – older age and a higher prevalence of HFpEF. RECOLFACA has become a useful tool to characterize patients with HF in Colombia, with which it has been possible to carry out a more specific search and reach the diagnosis of this pathology in our population, and it has served as an example to stimulate registries of patients with HF in other countries in the region
Expert consensus on the clinical management of arterial hypertension in Colombia Colombian Society of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery
aproximadamente 21 millones de personasIn 2017, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) concurrently established new guidelines for the prevention, detection, assessment
and management of arterial hypertension in adults, based on new scientific evidence supporting
its intensive treatment.
The formalrecommendation was to use lower arterial pressure thresholds forinitiating antihypertensive treatment. This consideration arose from studies which related the achievement of
lower arterial pressure figures with a significant decrease in the risk of cardiovascular disease
and mortality in the hypertensive population.
In light of this new definition of arterial hypertension, Muntner et al. consider that the prevalence of hypertension in the United States would be 45.6%, compared with 31.9% if the
previously accepted and implemented parameters from the JNC7 were applied. According to
this committee, the percentage of American adults recommended for antihypertensive treatment would go from 34.3% to 36.2%, while the percentage of hypertensives not achieving the
established goals would increase from 39 to 53.4%.
Meanwhile, Bundy et al. reached similar conclusions, calculating that 45.4% of adult Americans over the age of 20 (105.3 million) would have hypertension according to the new
classification, compared to data from 2014, which considered 32.0% (74.1 million) to be hypertensive. This 13.5% difference amounts to 31.3 million people who would be classified as
hypertensive.
In Colombia, the application of the new classification would mean going from a prevalence
of 22.0% in 2016 to an estimated 43.3%, currently, just by changing the cut-off value for being
considered hypertensive, which would amount to classifying approximately 21 million people
