Connecting NetOpen nodes for NetOpen resource aggregation
NetOpen RA (Resource Aggregate) is the programmable network substrate containing resources supporting OpenFlow-based programmable networking. A number of experiments can be performed by sharing resources built by connecting NetOpen nodes. As today's Internet does not support layer-2 (L2) data-plane connectivity required for OpenFlow-based programmable networking, tunneling techniques are important in building NetOpen RA with NetOpen nodes. In this paper, we present several tunneling techniques and evaluate the performance of the connections according to tunneling techniques. We also present demonstration experiences with the NetOpen RA
Deploying GPU-based Real-time DXT compression for Networked Visual Sharing
The networked visual sharing application in multi-party collaboration environment needs compression of video streams due to network bandwidth limitation. For interactive real-time sharing, real-time compression of high-quality video as well as audio echo cancellation are required, which commonly depend on the availability of high-cost hard-to-setup specialized compression and echo-cancellation hardware. In this paper, by leveraging the computing power of GPU-accelerated PC (personal computer), we discuss how to support the software-only real-time compression of HD (high-definition) video streams. The chosen lightweight scheme, DXT (i.e., S3 Texture Compression), is highly matched with GPU-accelerated texture compression. By implementing GPU-accelerated DXT compression, based on CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) parallel computing, and by deploying a software-based echo controller together, we can enable a low-cost solution for efficient networked visual sharing in collaboration environment
Prototyping Workload-based Resource Coordination for Cloud-leveraged HPC/BigData Cluster Sharing
Recently high-performance computing (HPC) and BigData workloads are increasingly running over cloud-leveraged shared resources, meanwhile traditionally dedicated clusters have been configured only for specificworkloads. That is, in order to improve resource utilization efficiency, shared resource clusters are required to support both HPC and BigData workloads. Thus, in this paper, we discuss about a prototyping effort to enable workload-based resource coordination for cloud-leveraged shared HPC/BigData cluster.By taking OpenStack cloud-leveraged shared cluster as an example, we demonstrate the possibility of workload-based bare-metal cluster reconfiguration with interchangeable cluster provisioning and associated monitoring support
Real-time Group Video Sharing tied with Online Social Networks
The exploding growth of OSNs (Online Social Networks) is a common trend incurrent mobile Internet era. In this paper, by linking the features of Facebook OSN andMOVi+ (Mobile Opportunistic Video-on-demand Plus) [1-3], we realize real-time P2P videosharing among mobile nodes. The realized prototype implementation clearly verifies theconvenience and economic feasibility of OSN-initiated application development
Comparison of Service Description and Composition for Complex 3-Tier Cloud-based Services
This paper focuses on service description and composition for complex 3-tier datacenter application services, tied with firewalls and load balancing. By adopting cloud-native container-based microservices architecture (MSA) for a small-sized datacenter situation, we attempt to compare several approaches for service description and composition, especially from the viewpoint of service function chaining (SFC). Also we prototype them with OpenStack-based cloud virtual machines (VMs) by comparing their performances with resource usages
Influence of Oxygen Microenvironment on Microfluidic Glucose Sensor Performance
We propose a novel method to overcome significant problems of baseline drift and sensitivity degradation in amperometric biosensors based on oxidase enzyme reactions. A novel glucose microsensor with a built-in electrochemical oxygen manipulation microsystem is introduced to demonstrate three novel functionalities; one-point in situ self-calibration (zero-point), broadening of dynamic range and increase in sensitivity. The influence of electrochemically generated oxygen microenvironment on the sensor output within a fluidic structure is investigated
SDN-based Coordination for IoT-Cloud Connectivity employing Wired/Wireless Multi-Access SmartX Boxes
Diversified Internet of Things (IoT) -related services typically require networking to the cloud/edge-cloud resources to process and store data from distributed IoT device boxes. In addition, various IoT-related services encourage leveraging different access networking, so IoT device boxes having multiple interfaces are becoming typical configuration. In order to efficiently provide IoT-cloud connectivity via multiple interfaces, multi-access networking is becoming a popular research keyword. And supporting reliable data transmission of IoT data to the cloud is an important feature of multi-access networking. In this paper, to cope with the emerging multi-access networking, we propose SmartX miniBox and SDN-based coordination functionality. SmartX miniBox is a physical box designed to support multi-access networking with SDN-enabled wired interface and OVS-integrated WiFi interfaces. And SDN-based Coordination functionality coordinates SmartX miniBox and IoT device boxes in order to enhance reliability in data transmission. The coordination includes alternating access interfaces in IoT devices boxes and changing networking paths in multi-path wired topology when networking failures occur
Optofluidic Biosensors based on Color Imaging
A color CCD (charge-coupled device) camera is used as a chemical detector to quantify fluorescence emission intensities from two kinds of optofluidic device platforms. the fluorophores responsive to oxygen are immobilized in photo-patternable hydrogel matrices. the first device is a hydrogel sensor array formed within a commercial silicone elastomer imaging chamber. the second one involves a double-chamber fluidic device composed of a permeable membrane layer and dry film photoresist layers. the results suggest that digital color imagers, in combination with a simple color separation method, can serve as the high-quality chemical detectors for fluidic biosensors and biological culture platforms. © 2010 IEEE
Web Server-based Distributed Machine Socialization System
In recent years, there has been an increasing trend of offering services that are useful to users, such as Google's Nest, through machine socialization between parts and devices in specific spaces such as automobiles, homes, and factories. The existing inter - device collaboration system is a centralized system using router, and it controls collaboration between devices by building OpenWrt and web server on router. However, due to the limited hardware resources on the router, it generates network traffic congestion as the number of requests from the client increases or the number of clients connected to the server increases. In this paper, we propose a distributed machine collaboration system based on web server using inter - device collaboration algorithm. The study of Micro Controller Unit (MCU) has reduced the traffic incidence by solving the request sent to the router from each device by oneself
