User Analysis Mechanisms based Mobile Fitness System
Modern men have health problems caused by lack of exercise than in the past. But most modern people do not know what to do exercise. Mobile systems for fitness to solve this problem have been developed. In this paper, by analyzing the user's BMI (Body Mass Index) Index and BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) value, the data is made available. The processed data is provided to the user which proposes the right exercise and the appropriate level of exercise intensity, for exercise machines. This is different from detecting the movement, like the existing system, and a fitness value showing the calorie consumption caused. Thus the user is considered to be able to efficiently proceed to a movement based on the provided data
Refining Historical earthquake Data Through Modeling and Scale Model Tests
This study was performed for the reevaluation of historical earthquake records which occurred in Korea through tests and numerical analyses. For the scale model tests, static and cyclic lateral load tests on wooden frames that constitute a Korean ancient commonerās house were conducted. Full-scale models of two types of frames were used for testing. Two 1:4 scale models were tested for rock and soil foundation conditions. Scaled real earthquake time histories were inputted for the tests. The peak ground acceleration (PGA) at the collapse of the house at the soil site was 0.25g, whereas PGA for moderate damage at the rock site was 0.6g. The intensity of major historical earthquake records related with house collapses was reevaluated based on the results of these scale mode1 tests. The magnitudes of historical earthquake records related with house collapses were estimated considering the magnitude, epicentral distance, soil condition and aging of the house. Eighteen artificial time histories for magnitudes 6-8, epicentral distances 5 km - 350 km and hard and soft soil condition were generated. The aging effects of the house was modeled as the lateral loading capacity of wooden frames represented by hysteretic stiffness decreased linearly with time
Minimally Invasive Irrigation for Lumbar Spinal Epidural Abscess using a Trans-Sacral Epiduroscopic Laser Decompression Catheter
We describe a case of a spinal epidural abscess that was successfully treated with minimally invasive irrigation using trans-sacral epiduroscopic laser decompression (SELD) catheter. A 66-year-old man experienced aggravating right leg pain and lower back pain for 1 month despite receiving several pain blocks at a local hospital. Magnetic resonance imaging scans showed annular fissure and bulging disc at the L4/5 level. Therefore, we decided to treat the L4/5 lesion using SELD. Laboratory studies demonstrated leukocytosis and elevated C-reactive protein level. However, we did not pay attention to the abnormal laboratory values before SELD. During SELD, we found a yellowish epidural abscess and pus drainage. Therefore, we irrigated the epidural abscess using an SELD catheter. His low back pain was relieved dramatically immediately after the procedure. The spinal epidural abscess completely resolved after 20 days of antibiotic treatment. Minimally invasive irrigation and drainage using a SELD catheter and intravenous antibiotic therapy are helpful for the treatment of spinal epidural abscess
Acceleration Effect of CuCN in Ag Electroplating for Ultralarge-Scale Interconnects
The addition of CuCN accelerated the deposition rate in cyanide-based Ag electroplating. The catalytic effect came from the
high-order complexation of Cu with the free CNā ions in electrolyte. It changed the equilibrium state of the electrolyte, presented
as an increase in the amount of Ag CN 2
ā compared to Ag CN 3
2ā. Because Ag CN 2
ā could be reduced more easily, Ag electroplating
was accelerated. Fourier transform infrared analysis showed the equilibrium change with the increase in Ag CN 2
ā peak
according to the CuCN addition. For superfilling, it is necessary to localize the complexation on the Cu surface. This work was supported by the Korea Science and Engineering

Progression of Prostate Cancer Despite an Extremely Low Serum Level of Prostate-Specific Antigen
A 61-year-old man who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer 9 years ago and had been treated with pelvic irradiation and intermittent androgen deprivation therapy visited the emergency room because of back pain and weakness in both legs. Spine magnetic resonance imaging showed a lumbar epidural mass and spine metastasis. The whole-body workup revealed multiple metastases to the lymph nodes, bone, liver, and lung. The serum prostate-specific antigen was 0.02 ng/ml. He underwent laminectomy, posterior fixation, and epidural mass excision, and metastatic adenocarcinoma from the prostate was diagnosed. The patient underwent 1 cycle of docetaxel-based chemotherapy. More chemotherapy could not be done because of his general weakness. The patient died one month later of multiple organ failure
Okanin, a chalcone found in the genus Bidens, and 3-penten-2-one inhibit inducible nitric oxide synthase expression via heme oxygenase-1 induction in RAW264.7 macrophages activated with lipopolysaccharide
Excess production of nitric oxide by activated macrophages via inducible nitric oxide synthase leads to the development of various inflammatory diseases. Heme oxygenase-1 expression via activation of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 inhibits nitric oxide production and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression in activated macrophages. Okanin is one of the most abundant chalcones found in the genus Bidens (Asteraceae) that is used as various folk medications in Korea and China for treating inflammation. Here, we found that okanin (possessing the Ī±-Ī² unsaturated carbonyl group) induced heme oxygenase-1 expression via nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 activation in RAW264.7 macrophages. 3-Penten-2-one, of which structure, as in okanin, possesses the Ī±-Ī² unsaturated carbonyl group, also induced nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2-dependent heme oxygenase-1 expression, while both 2-pentanone (lacking a double bond) and 2-pentene (lacking a carbonyl group) were virtually inactive. In lipopolysaccharide-activated RAW264.7 macrophages, both okanin and 3-penten-2-one inhibited nitric oxide production and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression via heme oxygenase-1 expression. Collectively, our findings suggest that by virtue of its Ī±-Ī² unsaturated carbonyl functional group, okanin can inhibit nitric oxide production and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression via nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2-dependent heme oxygenase-1 expression in lipopolysaccharide-activated macrophages
Trans-1,3-diphenyl-2,3-epoxypropan-1-one, a chalcone derivative, induces apoptosis via ROS-mediated down-regulation of Bcl-xL in human leukemia HL-60 cells
The anticancer effects of trans-1,3-diphenyl-2,3-epoxypropan-1-one (DPEP), a chalcone derivative, were investigated in human leukemia HL-60 cells. Treatment of HL-60 cells with various concentration of DPEP resulted in a sequence of events characteristic of apoptosis, including loss of cell viability, morphological changes, and increased sub-G1 DNA content. We demonstrated that DPEP elevates reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in HL-60 cells, and that the ROS scavenger N-acetylcysteine (NAC) could block DPEP-induced ROS generation and apoptosis. Western blot analysis revealed that DPEP inhibits Bcl-xL expression, leading to caspase-3 activation and poly-ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) cleavage, thereby inducing apoptosis. However, NAC pretreatment significantly inhibited the activation of caspase-3 and PARP cleavage and reduced Bcl-xL levels. These findings provide the first evidence that DPEP may inhibit the growth of HL-60 cells and induce apoptosis through a ROS-mediated Bcl-xL pathway
