„In Wollust betäubt“ - unzüchtige Bücher im deutschsprachigen Raum im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert

International audienceAnders als etwa in Frankreich fand im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert der Handel mit verbotenen Lesestoffen im deutschsprachigen Raum nicht im literarischen Untergrund statt, sondern bildete sich im semiöffentlichen Raum heraus. Der Sammelband zeigt anhand von zahlreichen Fallbeispielen die länderübergreifenden verlagswirtschaftlichen Verflechtungen und Distributionsstrategien des erotischen Buchmarkts in Europa auf und untersucht die Dimension der von den Zensurbehörden oftmals tolerierten Wirkungslosigkeit von kirchlichen und staatlichen Regelwerken. Dabei werden die eigens entwickelten Geschäfts- und Finanzierungsmodelle sowie Vermarktungsstrategien erotisch-pornografischer Lesestoffe rekonstruiert und es wird der Kodierung erotisch-pornografischer Lesestoffe durch spezielle Paratexte auf Seiten der Verleger ebenso nachgespürt wie deren sachkundiger Dekodierung durch Leser und Kenner dieses Marktsegments. Auf diese Weise gibt der Band einen bisher ungekannten Einblick in die spezifischen Produktions- und Distributionsprozesse verbotener Literatur zur Zeit der Aufklärung und im 19. Jahrhundert

A 20-channel receive-only mouse array coil for a 3 T clinical MRI system

A 20-channel phased-array coil for MRI of mice has been designed, constructed, and validated with bench measurements and high-resolution accelerated imaging. The technical challenges of designing a small, high density array have been overcome using individual small-diameter coil elements arranged on a cylinder in a hexagonal overlapping design with adjacent low impedance preamplifiers to further decouple the array elements. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and noise amplification in accelerated imaging were simulated and quantitatively evaluated in phantoms and in vivo mouse images. Comparison between the 20-channel mouse array and a length-matched quadrature driven small animal birdcage coil showed an SNR increase at the periphery and in the center of the phantom of 3- and 1.3-fold, respectively. Comparison with a shorter but SNR-optimized birdcage coil (aspect ratio 1:1 and only half mouse coverage) showed an SNR gain of twofold at the edge of the phantom and similar SNR in the center. G-factor measurements indicate that the coil is well suited to acquire highly accelerated images

The pre-exposure SARS-CoV-2-specific T cell repertoire determines the quality of the immune response to vaccination

SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination generates enormous host-response heterogeneity and an age -dependent loss of immune-response quality. How the pre-exposure T cell repertoire contributes to this heterogeneity is poorly understood. We combined analysis of SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4+ T cells pre-and post-vaccination with longitudinal T cell receptor tracking. We identified strong pre-exposure T cell variability that correlated with subsequent immune-response quality and age. High-quality responses, defined by strong expansion of high-avidity spike-specific T cells, high interleukin-21 production, and specific immuno-globulin G, depended on an intact naive repertoire and exclusion of pre-existing memory T cells. In the elderly, T cell expansion from both compartments was severely compromised. Our results reveal that an intrinsic defect of the CD4+ T cell repertoire causes the age-dependent decline of immune-response quality against SARS-CoV-2 and highlight the need for alternative strategies to induce high-quality T cell responses against newly arising pathogens in the elderly
