Entrepreneurial Intention Among the University Students: Personality Traits that Matter

    Get PDF
Within this research, we want to study if personality traits will be the significant predictors for entrepreneurial intention. Based on our literature surveys, which showed that personality traits are found significantly linked to entrepreneurial intention in developed countries, we want to focus on four personality traits: (1). self-efficacy, (2). needs for achievement, (3). locus of control, and (4). tolerance for risk. We collected the data from total of 200 university students in Malaysia through a self-administered questionnaire, and later analyzed using SEM PLS 3.0. We found that self-efficacy, locus of control, and tolerance for risk are indeed significant predictors, even though the need for achievement is not. Comparatively, a small sample size may lead to generalization issues, self-report bias, and cross-sectional design considered the main limitations of this study. We also revealed that tolerance for risk is the most influential factor in the entrepreneurial intention among university students. Thus, our finding contributes to the scholarly literature on entrepreneurship study in Malaysia, and provides some recommendation for universities to encourage and support entrepreneurship among students

Workplace Ergonomics Problems and Solutions: Working from Home

    No full text
. This study aims to identify the ergonomics issues of working from home and suggest several solutions in minimising these issues. It serves as a guideline to employees and employers in developing healthier WFH conditions. This exploratory study included a focus group discussion among experts from fields of higher education, healthcare, HR and ergonomics. The most common ergonomics issues identified were based on diagnoses and observations from previous studies. The panellists agreed on the issues which comprised the use of unergonomic chairs, incorrect sitting postures, irregular arrangement of key objects, improper reach distances of the laptop/keyboard/mouse, poor desk designs, absence of footrest, distortion/noise, poor lighting and poor work environment

Job Pursuit Intentions of Undergraduates towards Green Human Resource Management

    No full text
The paper aims to analyse the influence of Green Human Resource Management dimensions on the Job Pursuit Intentions. Two mediators; Employers’ Attractiveness and Employers’ Prestige intervenes the aforementioned relationship. It reviews precedent conceptual and empirical papers in accordance to this subject. The past empirical papers were retrieved on the topic of Green Human Resource Management whereby a condensed table on these with relation to Job Pursuit Intentions is illustrated. Moreover, extracting information from both conceptual and empirical papers enabled an organisation based on each variable. Few studies in a quantitative approach has been conducted on the outlook of Green Human Resource Management dimensions on Job Pursuit Intentions as separate themes. From the past empirical studies, the Green Human Resource Management dimensions are commonly treated as either a whole or a selective fragment of the various components of Green Human Resource Management. This review paper will be beneficial for researchers with interest in exploring the concept of Green Human Resource Management factors influencing the Job Pursuit Intentions. In addition, this information and knowledge can serve as an awareness to practitioners to include green initiatives as a strategic talent acquisition and management tool. The review paper enables enrichment to the limited knowledge base on the outlook of potential employees towards Green Human Resource Management. Besides, this paper provides a combination of three underlying theories which are Ability-Motivation-Opportunity Theory, Signalling Theory and Social Identity Theory. Also, the proposed research framework is an extension whereby Green Employee Relations is presented in the hypothesized relationshi

Synthesising the roles of torque and sensation in pinch force: A framework

    No full text
Although studies show that torque and sensation are important factors to consider in grip force, there appears to be few frameworks that focus on their roles in pinch force. This study proposes a framework that potentially explains the roles of torque and sensation in pinch force. A review was done on these factors followed by a literature synthesis which categorised them into sub-factors. The sub-factors were combined to output a framework that explains the mechanisms of their interactions. This framework enriches the knowledge on pinch force levels for reduced injury risks by identifying preliminary factors that may influence pinch force. It can potentially be used to improve the effectiveness of manufacturing tasks. Although further research on it is required, it still provides researchers with more factors to consider for studies on occupational risks and injuries. With this framework, researchers can potentially improve predictions on functional outcomes in precision manufacturing tasks

A Preliminary Study in Rationalizing the Need for the Goldilocks Principle in Manufacturing SMEs

    No full text
The Goldilocks principle has been widely used in the medical science and psychology fields. However, there appear to be many areas where this principle can be explored in social science research. The main objective of this study is to rationalize the need for the Goldilocks principle by observing the effect of fatigue and stress on human error in manufacturing SMEs. A total of 190 questionnaires were collected and analyzed in SmartPLS version 3. It was found that the alternative hypotheses were supported with p-values below 0.05. The authors suggested that manufacturing companies should set a work record of the task completion time and consider the average time as grace duration in performing the task. An organization is advised to refrain from giving extra time or too little time in completing a task. The timeframe should be based on the task complexity or task familiarity of the overall organization. This study benefits the manufacturing companies as it can serve as a guideline on HR policies and working hours

Factors affecting generation Z’s intention to use self-service technology (SST)

    Get PDF
As the world moves towards a technological era, various innovations have been introduced across different industries in order to meet customers’ expectations and enhance service quality. Self-service Technology (SST) is one innovation that can be commonly found across industries, and has gained high popularity among users. The main objective of this study is to examine the factors that affect customer intention in using SST, specifically among Generation Z. It examines the relationship between the independent variables of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, need of interaction, and technology anxiety and the dependent variable of customer intention in using SST. A questionnaire survey adopted in this study secured the required information from 152 target respondents. Analyses of responses explained 65.5% variances in customer intention of using SST. The research findings established through data analysed with SPSS version 27 application, suggest that perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness have positive significant relationships towards customer intention of using SST, but no significant relationship was found on need of interaction and technology anxiety in customer intention of using SST. Therefore, in order to encourage and attract potential and future users to utilise the service of SST, the system and function of SST need to be upgraded consistently to ensure it brings benefits and usefulness to users. Besides, a company can also educate users on ways to operate the SST in order to enhance the level of ease of use, and to increase the awareness of the usefulness of SST among users. The limitations and recommendations of future study are discussed at the end of the paper
