How do first impressions affect perceived approachability?
This essay explores the impact of first impressions on perceived approachability in social interactions, considering factors like facial expressions, attire, and vocal cues. It establishes approachability as the dependent variable influenced by first impressions, measured by voice cues, facial expressions, attire, and non-verbal cues while controlling for age, gender, race, height, and personality traits. In the literature review, we examine two key studies, focusing on face-based and voice-based impressions in a Chinese sample and rapid threat judgments based on facial appearance. The essay underscores the importance of non-verbal cues on first impressions and approachability. To understand the relationship, we use a survey questionnaire to gather insights into how the first impression affects perceptions. Data collection involves Qualtrics surveys and non-probability sampling, with analysis using ANOVA and Regression analysis. The essay contributes valuable insights into the complexities of how initial judgments influence perceived approachability, aiming to enhance comprehension and guide future research in this field

Three-component microwave-assisted synthesis of 3,5-disubstituted pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-ones
A practical three-component method for the synthesis of pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-ones was developed. The reaction was performed in a one-pot manner under controlled microwave irradiation using easily accessible methyl 5-aminopyrazole-4-carboxylates, trimethyl orthoformate, and primary amines. Under the optimized conditions, challenging substrates, such as N-1 unsubstituted 5-aminopyrazole-4-carboxylates with another substituted amino group in position 3, reacted selectively affording 5-substituted 3-arylamino-1,5-dihydro-4H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-ones. The reaction tolerated
a range of primary amines, including anilines. The advantages of the developed protocol include short reaction time, pot- and step-economy, and convenient chromatography-free product isolation. The structural features of representative products were explored by X-ray crystallograph
Redefining Surgical Skill Acquisition
There have been reduced opportunities for surgical skill acquisition due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the regulated training hours. Despite these challenges, self-regulated learning allows trainees to learn continuously, and motor skills development can be augmented through mental practice and motor imagery. The aim of this chapter is to introduce the theoretical concepts in skill acquisition and the role of mental and deliberate practice as an alternative for skill training. A case study is presented using a design and development framework for producing an online basic micro suturing training resource based on self-regulated learning. This case study demonstrates the use of the ADDIE instructional design model and Mayer’s multimedia theory guidelines, for creating online instructional resources. The methodological approach of a design and developmental framework to create an educationally sound online training module for micro suturing which has significant utility in hand surgery is discussed in this chapter. The tools described in this chapter are translatable to any psychomotor skills development in medical education
3,4-Diaminopyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines: a new three-component microwave-assisted synthesis and anti-leukemic properties
A convenient method for the synthesis of N3,N4-disubstituted 3,4-diaminopyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines was developed using a three-component reaction of 3,5-diaminopyrazole-4-carbonitriles with primary amines and orthoesters. The preparation of 114 examples demonstrated the good scope of the reaction, which tolerated variations in the substrate structure and was particularly efficient under microwave irradiation. The short reaction time and chromatographyfree product isolation add practicality to this method. The anti-leukemic activity was assessed in vitro using K562 and Jurkat T cells, and the selectivity of the most active compounds was 3 evaluated using non-cancerous MRC5 cells. The most promising compound inhibited Jurkat T cells with a GI50 value of 0.5 µM and a selectivity index of 64
A Rare Case of Pseudomembranous Tracheitis Presenting as Acute Stridor in a Patient after Extubation
Pseudomembranous tracheitis is a rare life-threatening complication of endotracheal intubation. The exact mechanism of its formation is not well known, and it could mimic crusting or retained secretions in the trachea. We encountered a patient with history of recent intubation, presenting with acute stridor requiring emergency airway stabilization, and was eventually found to have pseudomembranous tracheitis
Construct validity and reliability of Malay language-perception towards smoking questionnaire (BM-PTSQ) among secondary school adolescents
Multitude studies have demonstrated that perception is an integral factor associated with smoking. However, no such tool was available in the Malay language. In this study, we established a Bahasa Malaysia version of PTSQ (BM-PTSQ) and tested the validity and reliability among secondary school adolescents.
The English version of PTSQ originally consists of 12 items. It was translated into Bahasa Malaysia and back-translated again into English to check for consistency. After face validity (face-to-face query) was determined among 20 secondary school adolescents, only 10 items were included in the survey. Construct validity was established from 407 school adolescents through random selection in the same locality. More than 60% of the respondents were female, while the majority of them (67.3%) were schooling in rural areas. Then, the reliability of the questionnaire was determined with Cronbach’s alpha.
The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) has grouped PTSQ into two components associated with either knowledge or attitude towards smoking. The variance and Cronbach’s alpha for the first and second components were 38.24% and 0.861 (7 items), 21.62% and 0.661 (3 items), respectively.
The PTSQ showed good validity and reliability for measuring perception of smoking among secondary school-going adolescents in Malaysia. Hence, this is a viable measurement tool. But, more importantly, this study showed an urgent need to improve smoking education among adolescents in Malaysia

The Effect of Climate Change to the Farm Shrimp Growth and Production: An Empirical Analysis
The shrimp growth and production can be measured through several components such as the harvest ton, mean body weight, survival rate and feed conversion ratio. According to previous studies, the shrimp feed conversion ratio should have a positive relationship with their mean body weight. Nevertheless, in real scenario, high feed conversion ratio does not necessarily implies maximum increment of mean body weight. The measurement of those components usually can be influenced by many factors such as climates, stocking density and day of culture. This study in particular explores the effect of climates on productivity of the shrimp species, Penaeus Vannamei and investigates whether feed conversion ratio influences the mean body weight when stocking are done at different climate season. First, the one-way MANOVA was used to measure the effect between the climate seasons and P. Vannamei production. Then, the regression analysis was apply to measure the relationship between P. Vannamei feed conversion ratio and mean body weight for different climate seasons. Finally, to find the best season for sustainable production of P. Vannamei, the average score of P. Vannamei production was measured according to their stocking climate season. Result revealed that dry season was more favorable for the growth and production of P. Vannamei compared to wet seaso
