Long-term outcome of vertebral artery origin stenosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke
BACKGROUND: Vertebral artery origin (VAO) stenosis is occasionally observed in patients who have acute ischemic stroke. We investigated the long-term outcomes and clinical significance of VAO stenosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke. METHODS: We performed a prospective observational study using a single stroke center registry to investigate the risk of recurrent stroke and vascular outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke and VAO stenosis. To relate the clinical significance of VAO stenosis to the vascular territory of the index stroke, patients were classified into an asymptomatic VAO stenosis group and a symptomatic VAO stenosis group. RESULTS: Of the 774 patients who had acute ischemic stroke, 149 (19.3%) of them had more than 50% stenosis of the VAO. During 309 patient-years of follow-up (mean, 2.3 years), there were 7 ischemic strokes, 6 hemorrhagic strokes, and 2 unknown strokes. The annual event rates were 0.97% for posterior circulation ischemic stroke, 4.86% for all stroke, and 6.80% for the composite cardiovascular outcome. The annual event rate for ischemic stroke in the posterior circulation was significantly higher in patients who had symptomatic VAO stenosis than in patients who had asymptomatic stenosis (1.88% vs. 0%, p = 0.046). In a multivariate analysis, the hazard ratio, per one point increase of the Essen Stroke Risk Score (ESRS) for the composite cardiovascular outcome, was 1.46 (95% CI, 1.02-2.08, p = 0.036). CONCLUSIONS: Long-term outcomes of more than 50% stenosis of the VAO in patients with acute ischemic stroke were generally favorable. Additionally, ESRS was a predictor for the composite cardiovascular outcome. Asymptomatic VAO stenosis may not be a specific risk factor for recurrent ischemic stroke in the posterior circulation. However, VAO stenosis may require more clinical attention as a potential source of recurrent stroke when VAO stenosis is observed in patients who have concurrent ischemic stroke in the posterior circulation
Temporal Interpolation Is All You Need for Dynamic Neural Radiance Fields
Temporal interpolation often plays a crucial role to learn meaningful
representations in dynamic scenes. In this paper, we propose a novel method to
train spatiotemporal neural radiance fields of dynamic scenes based on temporal
interpolation of feature vectors. Two feature interpolation methods are
suggested depending on underlying representations, neural networks or grids. In
the neural representation, we extract features from space-time inputs via
multiple neural network modules and interpolate them based on time frames. The
proposed multi-level feature interpolation network effectively captures
features of both short-term and long-term time ranges. In the grid
representation, space-time features are learned via four-dimensional hash
grids, which remarkably reduces training time. The grid representation shows
more than 100 times faster training speed than the previous neural-net-based
methods while maintaining the rendering quality. Concatenating static and
dynamic features and adding a simple smoothness term further improve the
performance of our proposed models. Despite the simplicity of the model
architectures, our method achieved state-of-the-art performance both in
rendering quality for the neural representation and in training speed for the
grid representation.Comment: CVPR 2023. Project page:

Development of a Specific and Rapid Diagnostic Method for Detecting Influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 Virus Infection Using Immunochromatographic Assay
AbstractObjectivesThe aim of this study was to develop an immunochromatographic assay (ICA) for the detection of influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 virus infection.Materials and methodsSeveral monoclonal antibodies against influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 virus were generated and an ICA (pdm09-ICA) was developed for the rapid and specific detection of influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 virus infection. The specificity and sensitivity of the developed assay were compared with that of hemagglutination assay and real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR).ResultsThe detection limit was estimated to be 1/2 (8) hemagglutinating unit; the sensitivity and specificity rates of pdm09-ICA were 75.86% (110/145) and 100% (43/43), respectively, compared with rRT-PCR. The cross-reactivity for 20 influenza viruses, including seasonal H1N1 viruses, was found to be negative except for the H1N1 virus (A/Swine/Korea/GC0503/2005).ConclusionThese results indicate that the proposed method can be easily used for rapid and specific detection of the pdm09 infection. The assay developed in this study would be a useful tool for distinguishing the pdm09 infection from seasonal influenza A and B infections
Predictors and patterns of problematic Internet game use using a decision tree model
Background and aims Problematic Internet game use is an important social issue that increases social expenditures for both individuals and nations. This study identified predictors and patterns of problematic Internet game use. Methods Data were collected from online surveys between November 26 and December 26, 2014. We identified 3,881 Internet game users from a total of 5,003 respondents. A total of 511 participants were assigned to the problematic Internet game user group according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Internet gaming disorder criteria. From the remaining 3,370 participants, we used propensity score matching to develop a normal comparison group of 511 participants. In all, 1,022 participants were analyzed using the chi-square automatic interaction detector (CHAID) algorithm. Results According to the CHAID algorithm, six important predictors were found: gaming costs (50%), average weekday gaming time (23%), offline Internet gaming community meeting attendance (13%), average weekend and holiday gaming time (7%), marital status (4%), and self-perceptions of addiction to Internet game use (3%). In addition, three patterns out of six classification rules were explored: cost-consuming, socializing, and solitary gamers. Conclusion This study provides direction for future work on the screening of problematic Internet game use in adults
A Photometric and Spectroscopic Study of the Short-Period Algol EW Bo\"{o}tis with a Sct Pulsator
In this paper, we present TESS photometry and high-resolution spectra of the
short-period Algol EW Boo. We obtained double-lined radial velocities (RVs)
from the time-series spectra and measured the effective temperature of the
primary star as = 8560 118 K. For the orbital period
study, we collected all times of minima available for over the last 30 years.
It was found that the eclipse timing variation of the system could be
represented by a periodic oscillation of 17.6 0.3 years with a
semi-amplitude of 0.0041 0.0001 d. The orbital and physical parameters
were derived by simultaneously analyzing the TESS light and RV curves using the
Wilson-Devinney (WD) binary star modeling code. The component masses and radii
were showed over 3% precision: = 2.67 0.08 M,
= 0.43 0.01 M, = 2.01 0.02 R, and
= 1.35 0.01 R. Furthermore, multiple frequency
analyses were performed for the light-curve residuals from the WD model. As a
result, we detected 17 pressure-mode pulsations in the region of 40.15 - 52.37
d. The absolute dimensions and pulsation characteristics showed that the
Sct pulsator was the more massive and hotter primary star of the EW
Boo.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for publication in A
Acute gastritis associated with Epstein-Barr virus infection in a child
Infectious mononucleosis is Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) inducing a self-limiting clinical syndrome characterized by fever, sore throat, hepatosplenomegaly, and generalized lymphadenopathy. Gastrointestinal symptoms of EBV infection are nonspecific and occur rarely. EBV inducing acute gastrointestinal pathology is poorly recognized without suspicion. Careful consideration is needed to diagnose gastric involvement of EBV infection including gastric lymphoma, gastric cancer, and gastritis. A few recent cases of gastritis associated with EBV infection have been reported in adolescents and adults. However, there is no report of EBV-associated gastritis in early childhood. We experienced a rare case of 4-year-old girl with EBV gastritis confirmed by in situ hybridization
