Baryogenesis in Lorentz-violating gravity theories
Lorentz-violating theories of gravity typically contain constrained vector
fields. We show that the lowest-order coupling of such vectors to
-symmetric scalars can naturally give rise to baryogenesis in a
manner akin to the Affleck-Dine mechanism. We calculate the cosmology of this
new mechanism, demonstrating that a net can be generated in the early
Universe, and that the resulting baryon-to-photon ratio matches that which is
presently observed. We discuss constraints on the model using solar system and
astrophysical tests of Lorentz violation in the gravity sector. Generic
Lorentz-violating theories can give rise to the observed matter-antimatter

Monoclonal antibodies to the cells of a regenerating limb
Monoclonal antibodies were raised against differentiated cells, and blastemal cells from regenerating limbs of adult newts (Notophthalmus viridescens) and screened for specific staining by immunocytochemistry. In addition to antibodies that identify muscle, Schwann cells and cartilage, two reagents were specific for subpopulations of blastemal cells. One of these latter antibodies, termed 22/18, has provided new evidence about the origin of blastemal cells from Schwann cells and rnyofibres, and also identifies blastemal cells whose division is persistently dependent on the nerve supply

Analyzing China’s contributions to major dermatologic journals from the past 20 years
Background: Over the past 20 years, China has experienced an increased popularity of Western medicine. The impact of Western medicine in China on the field of dermatology is not well characterized. Objective: To assess the impact China has had on the field of dermatology by analyzing the total publications to six dermatological journals, compared to two other Asian countries: Japan and Korea. Methods: PubMed was utilized to search for publications from China, Japan, and Korea within the past 20 years. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the average percentage change in publications during this 20-year period, and the average annual increase in total number of publications from each country. Comparisons were made using one-way ANOVA and two-group t-tests. Results: From 1998 to 2019, there was a 24% average annual increase in publications from China (M=24.4, SD=24.5), compared to a 6% increase from Japan (M=5.6, SD=25.4, P=0.02) and 8% increase from Korea (M=7.8, SD=23.4, P=0.03). Conclusion: For the past 20 years, there has been a strong positive trend regarding the total number of publications from China. This finding might be related in part to an increased acceptance of Western medicine, which follows a similar trend during the time period we analyzed
Change-point model on nonhomogeneous Poisson processes with application in copy number profiling by next-generation DNA sequencing
We propose a flexible change-point model for inhomogeneous Poisson Processes,
which arise naturally from next-generation DNA sequencing, and derive score and
generalized likelihood statistics for shifts in intensity functions. We
construct a modified Bayesian information criterion (mBIC) to guide model
selection, and point-wise approximate Bayesian confidence intervals for
assessing the confidence in the segmentation. The model is applied to DNA Copy
Number profiling with sequencing data and evaluated on simulated spike-in and

High-Resolution Spectroscopy of Ursa Major Moving Group Stars
We use new and extant literature spectroscopy to address abundances and
membership for UMa moving group stars. We first compare the UMa, Coma, and
Hyades H-R diagrams via a homogeneous set of isochrones, and find that these
three aggregates are essentially coeval. Our spectroscopy of cool UMa dwarfs
reveals striking abundance anomalies--trends with Teff, ionization state, and
excitation potential--like those recently seen in young cool M34, Pleaides, and
Hyades dwarfs. In particular, the trend of rising 7774 Ang-based OI abundance
with declining Teff is markedly subdued in UMa compared to the Pleiades,
suggesting a dependence on age or metallicity. Despite disparate sources of Li
data,our homogeneous analysis indicates that UMa members evince remarkably
small scatter in the Li-Teff plane for Teff>5200 K. Significant star-to-star
scatter suggested by previous studies is seen for cooler stars. Comparison with
the consistently determined Hyades Li-Teff trend reveals differences
qualitatively consistent with this cluster's larger [Fe/H] (and perhaps
slightly larger age). However, quantitative comparison with standard stellar
models indicates the differences are smaller than expected, suggesting the
action of a fourth parameter beyond age, mass, and [Fe/H] controlling Li
