    This case report describes an exceedingly rare case of hamartoma of breast with predominantly chondroid stroma. A 45 year old lady presented with a mobile lump in the upper outer quadrant of left breast, clinically diagnosed as fibroadenoma. Mammography and FNAC were not done. She underwent lumpectomy and we received the specimen measuring 7x5x3cm. Cut surface of which revealed grey white nodule with glistening surface. Histopathologically we found a circumscribed lesion with predominantly mature hyaline cartilage separated by fibrocollagenous bands

    Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare plasma cell neoplasm of soft tissue without bone marrow involvement or other systemic characteristics of multiple myeloma. It accounts for 3% of all plasma cell tumors. Multiple extramedullary plasmacytoma is defined when there is more than one extramedullary tumor of clonal plasma cells and such presentation has not been described earlier.     Single-Particle Tunneling in Doped Graphene-Insulator-Graphene Junctions

    The characteristics of tunnel junctions formed between n- and p-doped graphene are investigated theoretically. The single-particle tunnel current that flows between the two-dimensional electronic states of the graphene (2D-2D tunneling) is evaluated. At a voltage bias such that the Dirac points of the two electrodes are aligned, a large resonant current peak is produced. The magnitude and width of this peak is computed, and its use for devices is discussed. The influence of both rotational alignment of the graphene electrodes and structural perfection of the graphene is discussed.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures; added Section II(E) and associated figures, and made other minor typographical correction

    SymFET: A Proposed Symmetric Graphene Tunneling Field Effect Transistor

    In this work, an analytical model to calculate the channel potential and current-voltage characteristics in a Symmetric tunneling Field-Effect-Transistor (SymFET) is presented. The current in a SymFET flows by tunneling from an n-type graphene layer to a p-type graphene layer. A large current peak occurs when the Dirac points are aligned at a particular drain-to- source bias VDS . Our model shows that the current of the SymFET is very weakly dependent on temperature. The resonant current peak is controlled by chemical doping and applied gate bias. The on/off ratio increases with graphene coherence length and doping. The symmetric resonant peak is a good candidate for high-speed analog applications, and can enable digital logic similar to the BiSFET. Our analytical model also offers the benefit of permitting simple analysis of features such as the full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) of the resonant peak and higher order harmonics of the nonlinear current. The SymFET takes advantage of the perfect symmetry of the bandstructure of 2D graphene, a feature that is not present in conventional semiconductors

R1 is the Rascal triangle and as i grows large, Ri becomes Pascal\u27s triangle. For all i, we provide a combinatorial interpretation and find closed-term formulas for the entries of Ri . Our proofs rely on generating functions and other combinatorial arguments

    A TRIPLE CASE STUDY OF TWO SAUDI AND ONE ITALIAN LANGUAGE LEARNERS\u27 SELF-PERCEPTIONS OF TARGET LANGUAGE (TL) SPEAKING PROFICIENCY

    This triple case study examined the diverse ways in which two Saudis and one Italian English language learner (ELL) came to speaking proficiency according to his or her own perceptions and observations. The researcher conducted interviews of the two Saudi ELLs face-to-face and the one Italian ELL through Skype by asking 15 open-ended questions related to their English language learning experiences (narrative inquiry) specifically related to speaking proficiency from their beginning learning through the present. This study was not intended as a contrastive analysis. The researcher was a monolingual English speaker with beginning experience in Korean and Spanish, and was currently working to become proficient in Italian. She has taught English at the elementary level in South Korea for several years and has tutored Italian ELLs of all ages ranging from the elementary age through later adulthood. The researcher’s findings have indicated four categories identified as instrumental in these learners’ paths to speaking proficiency. The categories included authentic exposure to English through different mediums, frequent exposure through practice and repetition, interactive practice with peers and others at a higher level of speaking proficiency, and a reason to study English that motivated them and combined their interests whether it was through need, enjoyment or personal achievement

    Issues before the thirteenth finance commission.

    The Thirteenth Finance Commission faces challenging times. Despite improvement, the fiscal situation continues to be a matter of concern when off budget liabilities and other fiscal risks are considered. In the changing situation of increasing oil prices on the one hand and surge in capital flows on the other, calibrating the transfer system in tune with counter-cyclical fiscal policy stance is a formidable challenge. The paper argues that irrespective of the wording of the Terms of Reference (ToR), the Commission would do well to focus on its primary task of recommending transfers to serve the objective of equity and incentives. While it is required to take into account a number of considerations, the focus should be on the transfer system. As an impartial body, the Commission should make a fair assessment of the union as well as state governments, ignoring the asymmetries in the wording of the ToR. As regards the transfer system itself is concerned, the paper argues that although it may be difficult to make drastic changes in the relative shares of the states, the Commission should give up the gap filling approach. Instead, after recommending the tax devolution, the Commission should recommend grants to fully equalise expenditures on elementary education and basic healthcare. It is also possible to incentivise the transfer system for even those states that have a better record of providing education and healthcare to improve quality of these services. If necessary, the tax devolution percentage can be appropriately adjusted to ensure equalisation of social services. The paper is a revised and edited version of one that was presented in the seminar on Issues before the Thirteenth Finance Commission held at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) on May 23-24, 2008.

    Role of Self-Interaction Effects in the Geometry Optimization of Small Metal Clusters

    By combining the Self-Interaction Correction (SIC) with pseudopotential perturbation theory, the role of self-interaction errors inherent to the Local Density Approximation (LDA) to Density Functional Theory is estimated in the determination of ground state and low energy isomeric structures of small metallic clusters. Its application to neutral sodium clusters with 8 and 20 atoms shows that the SIC provides sizeable effects in Na_8, leading to a different ordering of the low lying isomeric states compared with ab-initio LDA predictions, whereas for Na_20, the SIC effects are less pronounced, such that a quantitative agreement is achieved between the present method and ab-initio LDA calculations.Comment: RevTeX, 4 pages, 1 figure available from [email protected]

    Warm Asymmetric Nuclear Matter and Proto-Neutron Star

    Asymmetric nuclear matter equation of state at finite temperature is studied in SU(2) chiral sigma model using mean field approximation. The effect of temperature on effective mass, entropy, and binding energy is discussed. Treating the system as one with two conserved charges the liquid-gas phase transition is investigated. We have also discussed the effect of proton fraction on critical temperature with and without ρ\rho-meson contribution. We have extended our work to study the structure of proto-neutron star with neutron free charge-neutral matter in beta-equilibrium. We found that the mass and radius of the star decreases as it cools from the entropy per baryon S = 2 to S = 0 and the maximum temperature of the core of the star is about 62 MeV for S = 2.Comment: 25 pages, 16 figure
