Cemented hemi arthroplasty for unstable intertrochanteric fractures in elderly
Background: The incidence of the intertrochanteric fractures is increasing in recent times. It is found that more and more of these fractures are seen in elderly. The treatment of these fractures was historically non surgical. The use of dynamic hip screw and angled blade plate in the surgical management of these fractures is a recent practice. The objective of the study was to analyse the role of cemented hemi-arthroplasty in the treatment of unstable inter trochanteric fractures in elderly.Methods: This study was conducted between June 2014 to June 2016. Results were analysed prospectively. From a total 94 inter trochanteric fractures admitted during this period 20 patients were chosen who fulfilled our inclusion criteria. All the patients were treated in Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences. Primary cemented hemiarthroplasty was done in the entire patient by a senior faculty member. The results were assessed according to Harris hip score.Results: There were 13 females and 7 males in our study. The average age was 69.2 years. There was Evan’s type 1-c 11, 1-d 7 and 1-e 2 in numbers all the patients were followed up for a period of 18 months.Conclusions: In our short study, it is concluded that the primary cemented hemi arthroplasty is a good option in unstable inter trochanteric fractures in elderly
Enzyme Inhibition by Molluscicidal Components of Myristica fragrans Houtt. in the Nervous Tissue of Snail Lymnaea acuminata
This study was designed to investigate the effects of molluscicidal components of Myristica fragrans Houtt. (Myristicaceae) on certain enzymes in the nervous tissue of freshwater snail Lymnaea acuminata Lamarck (Lymnaeidae). In vivo and in vitro treatments of trimyristin and myristicin (active molluscicidal components of Myristica fragrans Houtt.) significantly inhibited the acetylcholinesterase (AChE), acid and alkaline phosphatase (ACP/ALP) activities in the nervous tissue of Lymnaea acuminata. The inhibition kinetics of these enzymes indicates that both the trimyristin and myristicin caused competitive noncompetitive inhibition of AChE. Trimyristin caused uncompetitive and competitive/noncompetitive inhibitions of ACP and ALP, respectively whereas the myristicin caused competitive and uncompetitive inhibition of ACP and ALP, respectively. Thus results from the present study suggest that inhibition of AChE, ACP, and ALP by trimyristin and myristicin in the snail Lymnaea acuminata may be the cause of the molluscicidal activity of Myristica fragrans
NCL Implementation of Dual-Rail 2\u3csup\u3eS\u3c/sup\u3e Complement 8x8 Booth2 Multiplier using Static and Semi-Static Primitives
In this work, we use static and semi-static versions of NULL Convention Logic (NCL) primitives (i.e., threshold gates) to implement a dual-rail 8times8 2s complement multiplier using the Modified Booth2 algorithm for partial product generation and a Wallace tree for partial product summation. We establish the multiplier\u27s functionality utilizing VHDL-based simulations of the gate-level structural design. The design is then implemented at the transistor-level and layout-level using both static and semi-static threshold gates, for a 1.8V 0.18mum TSMC CMOS process; and these two implementations are compared in terms of area, power, and speed
