    Testing Color Evaporation in Photon-Photon Production of J/Psi at CERN LEP II

    The DELPHI Collaboration has recently reported the measurement of J/Psi production in photon-photon collisions at LEP II. These newly available data provide an additional proof of the importance of colored c bar{c} pairs for the production of charmonium because these data can only be explained by considering resolved photon processes. We show here that the inclusion of color octet contributions to the J/Psi production in the framework of the color evaporation model is able to reproduce this data. In particular, the transverse-momentum distribution of the J/Psi mesons is well described by this model.Comment: 10 pages, 5 Figures, Revtex

    Optimized Variables of the Study of Λb\Lambda_b Polarization

    The value of the bb-baryon polarization can be extracted from inclusive data at LEP with better than 10\% precision based on current statistics. We present a new variable by which to measure the polarization, which is the ratio of the average electron energy to the average neutrino energy.     Colorless States in Perturbative QCD: Charmonium and Rapidity Gaps

    We point out that an unorthodox way to describe the production of rapidity gaps in deep inelastic scattering, recently proposed by Buchm\"uller and Hebecker, suggests a description of the production of heavy quark bound states which is in agreement with data.     On the mechanisms of heavy-quarkonium hadroproduction

    We discuss the various mechanisms potentially at work in hadroproduction of heavy quarkonia in the light of computations of higher-order QCD corrections both in the Colour-Singlet (CS) and Colour-Octet (CO) channels and the inclusion of the contribution arising from the s-channel cut in the CS channel.     Isospin splitting in heavy baryons and mesons

    A recent general analysis of light-baryon isospin splittings is updated and extended to charmed baryons. The measured Σc\Sigma_c and Ξc\Xi_c splittings stand out as being difficult to understand in terms of two-body forces alone.     Hard diffractive quarkonium hadroproduction at high energies

    We present a study of heavy quarkonium production in hard diffractive process by the Pomeron exchange for Tevatron and LHC energies. The numerical results are computed using recent experimental determination of the diffractive parton density functions in Pomeron and are corrected by unitarity corrections through gap survival probability factor. We give predictions for single as well as central diffractive ratios. These processes are sensitive to the gluon content of the Pomeron at small Bjorken-x and may be particularly useful in studying the small-x physics. They may also be a good place to test the different available mechanisms for quarkonium production at hadron colliders.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, 1 table.     Relativistic Description of Exclusive Semileptonic Decays of Heavy Mesons

    Using quasipotential approach, we have studied exclusive semileptonic decays of heavy mesons with the account of relativistic effects. Due to more complete relativistic description of the ss quark more precise expressions for semileptonic form factors are obtained. Various differential distributions in exclusive semileptonic decays of heavy mesons are calculated. It is argued that consistent account of relativistic effects and HQET motivated choice of the parameters of quark-antiquark potential allow to get reliable value for the ratio A2(0)/A1(0)A_2(0)/A_1(0) in the DKlνlD\to K^*l\nu_l decay as well as the ratio~Γ(DKlνl)/Γ(DKlνl)\Gamma(D\to K^*l\nu_l)/\Gamma(D\to Kl\nu_l).     Quantitative Tests of Color Evaporation: Charmonium Production

    The color evaporation model simply states that charmonium production is described by the same dynamics as DDˉD \bar D production, {\em i.e.}, by the formation of a colored ccˉc \bar c pair. Its color happens to be bleached by soft final-state interactions. We show that the model gives a complete picture of charmonium production including low-energy production by proton, photon and antiproton beams, and high-energy production at the Tevatron and HERA.     A systematic study of J/psi suppression in cold nuclear matter

    Based on a Glauber model, a statistical analysis of all mid-rapidity J/psi hadroproduction and leptoproduction data on nuclear targets is carried out. This allows us to determine the J/psi-nucleon inelastic cross section, whose knowledge is crucial to interpret the J/psi suppression observed in heavy-ion collisions, at SPS and at RHIC. The values of sigma are extracted from each experiment. A clear tension between the different data sets is reported. The global fit of all data gives sigma=3.4+/-0.2 mb, which is significantly smaller than previous estimates. A similar value, sigma=3.5+/-0.2 mb, is obtained when the nDS nuclear parton densities are included in the analysis, although we emphasize that the present uncertainties on gluon (anti)shadowing do not allow for a precise determination of sigma. Finally, no significant energy dependence of the J/psi-N interaction is observed, unless strong nuclear modifications of the parton densities are assumed.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure

    What can a relativistic quark model tell us about charmed mesons?

    A relativistic quark model is extended to incorporate chiral and gauge symmetries. We obtain the DD*pi and DD*gamma couplings and find that the ratio Gamma(D*0->D0pi0)/Gamma(D*0->D0gamma) constrains the charm-quark mass close to 1.45 GeV. Large 1/mc corrections appear in the heavy-quark contribution to the DD*gamma coupling. The model is extended further to describe seven excited D meson states. We find that semileptonic B decays into the ground and excited D meson states do not account for the total semileptonic decay width of the B0. The nonresonant contributions to the processes B0->D(*)pi+ell+nu appear to be large enough to account for the discrepancy.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX, figures in accompanying uuencoded PostScript file, UTPT-94-2
