The NACA Three Component Accelerometer
A new instrument known as the NACA three component accelerometer is described in this note. This instrument was designed by the technical staff of the NACA for recording accelerations along three mutually perpendicular axes, and is of the same type as the NACA single component accelerometer with the addition of two springs and a few minor improvements such as a pump for filling the dash-pots and a convenient method for aligning the springs. This note includes a few records as well as photographs of the instrument itself

Induction motor control system with voltage controlled oscillator circuit
A voltage controlled oscillator circuit is reported in which there are employed first and second differential amplifiers. The first differential amplifier, being employed as an integrator, develops equal and opposite slopes proportional to an input voltage, and the second differential amplifier functions as a comparator to detect equal amplitude positive and negative selected limits and provides switching signals which gate a transistor switch. The integrating differential amplifier is switched between charging and discharging modes to provide an output of the first differential amplifier which upon the application of wave shaping provides a substantially sinusoidal output signal. A two phased version with a second integrator provides a second 90 deg phase shifted output for induction motor control
Simulated Galactic methanol maser distribution to constrain Milky Way parameters
Using trigonometric parallaxes and proper motions of masers associated with
massive young stars, the Bar and Spiral Structure Legacy (BeSSeL) survey has
reported the most accurate values of the Galactic parameters so far. The
determination of these parameters with high accuracy has a widespread impact on
Galactic and extragalactic measurements. This research is aimed at establishing
the confidence with which such parameters can be determined. This is relevant
for the data published in the context of the BeSSeL survey collaboration, but
also for future observations, in particular from the Southern Hemisphere. In
addition, some astrophysical properties of the masers can be constrained,
notably the luminosity function. We have simulated the population of
maser-bearing young stars associated with Galactic spiral structure, generating
several samples and comparing them with the observed samples used in the BeSSeL
survey. Consequently, we checked the determination of Galactic parameters for
observational biases introduced by the sample selection. Galactic parameters
obtained by the BeSSeL survey do not seem to be biased by the sample selection
used. In fact, the published error estimates appear to be conservative for most
of the parameters. We show that future BeSSeL data and future observations with
Southern arrays will improve the Galactic parameters estimates and smoothly
reduce their mutual correlation. Moreover, by modeling future parallax data
with larger distance and, thus, greater relative uncertainties for a larger
numbers of sources, we found that parallax-distance biasing is an important
issue. Hence, using fractional parallax uncertainty in the weighting of the
motion data is imperative. Finally, the luminosity function for 6.7 GHz
methanol masers was determined, allowing us to estimate the number of Galactic

Measuring the Higgs Branching Fraction into two Photons at Future Linear \ee Colliders
We examine the prospects for measuring the \gaga branching fraction of a
Standard Model-like Higgs boson with a mass of 120 GeV at the future TESLA
linear \ee collider, assuming an integrated luminosity of 1 ab and
center-of-mass energies of 350 GeV and 500 GeV. The Higgs boson is produced in
association with a fermion pair via the Higgsstrahlung process \ee ,
with \qq or \nn, or the WW fusion reaction . A relative uncertainty on BF(\hgg) of~16% can be achieved in
unpolarized \ee collisions at =~500 GeV, while for =~350
GeV the expected precision is slightly poorer. With appropriate initial state
polarizations BF(\hgg)/BF(\hgg) can be improved to 10%. If this
measurement is combined with the expected error for the total Higgs width, a
precision of 10% on the \gaga Higgs boson partial width appears feasible.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
