Square-free class sizes in products of groups

We obtain some structural properties of a factorised group G=ABG = AB, given that the conjugacy class sizes of certain elements in A∪BA\cup B are not divisible by p2p^2, for some prime pp. The case when G=ABG = AB is a mutually permutable product is especially considered

Development of type 2 diabetes mellitus thirty-one years after Billroth II in a patient asking for diabetes surgery

Introduction: Diabetes surgery in obese and slim patients seems to be a superior alternative to the current medical treatment. Gastric bypass is an alternative treat- ment for diabetes. Nevertheless, there are still doubts whether diabetes can recur if you gain weight or if the effects are maintained over time. Other questions refer to the type of surgery to make the bypass limb length or reservoir size for the resolution of the Diabetes Mellitus. Presentation of case: Male patient 69-year-old came to us in order to perform tailored One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (BAGUA) to treat his type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome. He has a history of peptic ulcer treated with subtotal gastrectomy and Billroth II recons- truction 49 years ago. He currently is not obese and deve- loped diabetes 31 years after surgery. Discussion: Globally there are no reports of patients with normal BMI that after performing gastric bypass developed diabetes mellitus. There are cases where obese diabetic patients after gastric bypass improve or remits the T2DM, but it relapses due to insufficient weight loss or gain it. The patient with gastric bypass Billroth II type, should not developed diabetes. He is normal weight and not had weight gain that could be linked to the develop- ment of diabetes. Conclusions: The results generated by bariatric surgery are encouraging, but still do not clarify the precise way how surgery produces rapid improvement of systemic metabolism as in diabetes, but in our patient, the effect was quite different because the gastric bypass had no protective effect against diabetes

Characterisation and identification of grapevine cultivars (Vitis vinifera L.) from northwestern Spain using microsatellite markers and ampelometric methods

    Get PDF
Nine grapevine varieties from northwestern Spain (8 commonly known as types of Caíño and one as Tinta Femia) were characterised by constructing their typical ‘mean leaves’ and by determining their genetic profiles with respect to 6 microsatellite markers. Leaf morphologies were compared and the similarities between the cultivars were determined. Thirty three alleles were detected at the 6 microsatellite loci analysed. The different cultivars were successfully identified by both methods. In combination, the different techniques provide a more complete variety characterisation. Synonymy between these and other Spanish and Portuguese cultivars is discussed.

From 1973 to 1992, 20 cases of pathological fractures around the hip secondary to skeletal metastases were treated in our institution. The surgical treatment was performed by internal fixation or arthroplasty according the location and extension of the lesion. In 8 cases the fracture was located in the femoral neck, 6 cases were intertrochanteric fractures and 6 cases were subtrochanteric fractures. In the surgical management the importance of inmediately internal fixation, with the use of methylnietacrilate and post surgical radiotherapy are justified. Always the pain was relieved and the functional result was good in 70%. In 7 cases were local complications. The surgical treatment should be more agresive in these special patients, because the inmediately rehabilitation is essential in your quality lifes

A Core AFLP Map of Aposporic Tetraploid \u3cem\u3ePaspalum Notatum\u3c/em\u3e (Bahiagrass)

    Get PDF
Paspalum notatum (Bahiagrass) is a perennial rhizomatous species that reproduces by aposporous apomixis. Tetraploid races (2n=4x=40) are widely distributed from Central to South America and constitute one of the most valuable natural forage grasses for the subtropical areas of Paraguay, southern Brazil and north-eastern Argentina. Apospory in the species is controlled by a single locus, which exhibits a distorted segregation ratio. The objectives of this work were to develop a core genetic linkage map of the species by using AFLP markers and characterize the genomic region related to apospory

Systematics of Australian Thrasorinae (Hymenoptera, Cynipoidea, Figitidae) with descriptions of Mikeiinae, new subfamily, two new genera, and three new species

The Australian Thrasorinae are revised and Mikeius is transferred to Mikeiinae Paretas-Martínez & Pujade-Villar, subfam. n., and Mikeius clavatus Pujade-Villar & Restrepo-Ortiz, sp. n., is described. Two new genera of Thrasorinae are erected: Cicatrix Paretas-Martínez, gen. n., including Cicatrix pilosiscutum (Girault), comb. n. from Amblynotus, Cicatrix schauffi (Buffington), comb. n. from Mikeius, and Cicatrix neumannoides Paretas-Martínez & Restrepo-Ortiz, sp. n.; and Palmiriella Pujade-Villar & Paretas-Martínez, gen. n., including Palmiriella neumanni (Buffington), comb. n. from Mikeius, Thrasorus rieki Paretas-Martínez & Pujade-Villar, sp. n., is also described. A phylogenetic analysis of 176 morphological and biological characters, including all these new taxa and all genera previously included in Thrasorinae, was conducted. All subfamilies were recovered as monophyletic, with the following relationships: Parnipinae (Euceroptrinae (Mikeiinae (Plectocynipinae (Thrasorinae)))). A worldwide key to the subfamilies of Figitidae is provided that includes the new subfamily, as well as a key to genera Thrasorinae

Causal analysis of the pinion teeth failure in a limestone Reclaimer

    Get PDF
This paper presents a causal analysis of an unexpected failure of the pinion teeth of a large reducer installed in a limestone reclaimer which is part of a raw material transportation system of a cement factory. The Montano methodology is applied. It includes a collection of documentation, evidences, evaluation of failure mechanism by visual inspection and some hypothesis and their validation based on the analysis of the material resistance. It is demonstrated that although the teeth of the pinion were made of a suitable material and cemented correctly, they worked overloaded due to the presence of large rocks in the raw material. A resulting increase of contact tensions in the teeth over the allowed limits led to a fatigue failure process which is described in this work. The results of the analysis can be of great interest in order to develop preventive measures and avoid future undesired plant stoppages and economic losses
