    Critical Relaxation and Critical Exponents

Dynamic relaxation of the XY model and fully frustrated XY model quenched from an initial ordered state to the critical temperature or below is investigated with Monte Carlo methods. Universal power law scaling behaviour is observed. The dynamic critical exponent zz and the static exponent η\eta are extracted from the time-dependent Binder cumulant and magnetization. The results are competitive to those measured with traditional methods

Corrections to scaling in the dynamic approach to the phase transition with quenched disorder

With dynamic Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate the continuous phase transition in the three-dimensional three-state random-bond Potts model. We propose a useful technique to deal with the strong corrections to the dynamic scaling form. The critical point, static exponents β\beta and ν\nu, and dynamic exponent zz are accurately determined. Particularly, the results support that the exponent ν\nu satisfies the lower bound ν⩾2/d\nu \geqslant 2/d.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, 2 table

Self-diffusion in two-dimensional hard ellipsoid suspensions

We studied the self-diffusion of colloidal ellipsoids in a monolayer near a flat wall by video microscopy. The image processing algorithm can track the positions and orientations of ellipsoids with sub-pixel resolution. The translational and rotational diffusions were measured in both the lab frame and the body frame along the long and short axes. The long-time and short-time diffusion coefficients of translational and rotational motions were measured as functions of the particle concentration. We observed sub-diffusive behavior in the intermediate time regime due to the caging of neighboring particles. Both the beginning and the ending times of the intermediate regime exhibit power-law dependence on concentration. The long-time and short-time diffusion anisotropies change non-monotonically with concentration and reach minima in the semi-dilute regime because the motions along long axes are caged at lower concentrations than the motions along short axes. The effective diffusion coefficients change with time t as a linear function of (lnt)/t for the translational and rotational diffusions at various particle densities. This indicates that their relaxation functions decay according to 1/t which provides new challenges in theory. The effects of coupling between rotational and translational Brownian motions were demonstrated and the two time scales corresponding to anisotropic particle shape and anisotropic neighboring environment were measured

Dynamic effect of overhangs and islands at the depinning transition in two-dimensional magnets

With the Monte Carlo methods, we systematically investigate the short-time dynamics of domain-wall motion in the two-dimensional random-field Ising model with a driving field ?DRFIM?. We accurately determine the depinning transition field and critical exponents. Through two different definitions of the domain interface, we examine the dynamics of overhangs and islands. At the depinning transition, the dynamic effect of overhangs and islands reaches maximum. We argue that this should be an important mechanism leading the DRFIM model to a different universality class from the Edwards-Wilkinson equation with quenched disorderComment: 9 pages, 6 figure

Critical domain-wall dynamics of model B

With Monte Carlo methods, we simulate the critical domain-wall dynamics of model B, taking the two-dimensional Ising model as an example. In the macroscopic short-time regime, a dynamic scaling form is revealed. Due to the existence of the quasi-random walkers, the magnetization shows intrinsic dependence on the lattice size LL. A new exponent which governs the LL-dependence of the magnetization is measured to be σ=0.243(8)\sigma=0.243(8).Comment: 10pages, 4 figure
