Efficacy of cimetidin in the prevention of ulcer formation in the stomach during immobilization stress
The effect of stress on the formation of ulcers in the mucous membrane of the stomach, the increase in cyclic adenosine monophosphate level in the gastric tissues, and parietal cell structure alteration. Use of cimetidin prevents these effect
Hadron Calorimeter (Projectile Spectator Detector—PSD) of NA61/SHINE experiment at CERN
The fixed target experiment NA61/SHINE at the CERN SPS aims to study the onset of deconfinement and search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter. A segmented hadron calorimeter, the Projectile Spectator Detector (PSD), is used in the NA61 experiment to determine the collision centrality and to reconstruct the event plane orientation in collisions of nuclei. The PSD precisely characterizes the event class for the analysis and provides the centrality selection at the trigger level The wide ranges of beam energies and sizes of the collision system require high dynamic range of the electronic readout. At the same time sensitivity to small signals is needed for the PSD calibration based on minimum ionizing particles. The PSD was also used for particle identification to distinguish electrons and positrons from pions in the 2017 data taking of reference measurements for Fermilab neutrino beam lines. The performance of the PSD for hadrons is discussed as well as a proposal to upgrade the PSD for the NA61 experimental program beyond 2020
Pain at chronic pancreatitis: origin and treatment options
The aim of review. To present basic mechanisms of pain at pancreatitis and determine main management approaches in pain-predominant cases.Summary. Direct toxic action of damaging factors (first of all — alcohol), pancreatic enzyme deviation phenomenon, parenchymal damage by overflow of free radicals, elevation of intraductal pressure, damage of nerves (neuropathic pain) and compression of adjacent organs play primary role in development of pain. Enzyme supplements at chronic pancreatitis can be indicated not only as replacement treatment, but also as addition to complex treatment of patients with severe abdominal pain. Proton pump inhibitors, spasmolytics or prokinetics are recommended as additional therapy. At absence of desirable results application of nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs and analgetics, in resistant pain — non-narcotic opiates or pregabalin are indicated. Efficacy of analgetics can be increased by coadministration of psychotropic agents, most often — tricyclic antidepressants. In severe cases intractable pain at a chronic pancreatitis itself can become indication to surgical intervention.Conclusion. Treatment efficacy in each given case depends on duly establishment and adequate treatment of complications, motivation for abstain of alcohol intake and smoking; strict diet restriction for relapse period, and functional rest for the pancreas
Chronic pancreatitis: issues remain unresolved
Key points. Article is devoted to one of the major syndromes of chronic pancreatitis — exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Clinical symptoms of exocrine insufficiency: diarrhea with steatorrhea and flatulence are nonspecific and inconsistent. Laboratory diagnostics nowadays in our country is based on a single method — pancreatic elastase stool test which has low sensitivity and specificity, moreover it is characterized by low reproducibility. Thus, in practical situation it is reasonable to control both severity of disorders of pancreatic secretion, and efficacy of enzyme replacement therapy according to scores of trophological status of the patient both clinical (BMI), and laboratory (serum levels of prealbumin, retinol-binding protein, cholesterol, magnesium). Treatment should include high dose microgranulated enzymes in the form of capsules (the starting dose should be no less than 40 U of lipolytic activity per meal) as well as proton pump inhibitors. Replacement treatment should be life-long
Performance Studies of Prototype II for the CASTOR forward Calorimeter at the CMS Experiment
We present results of the performance of the second prototype of the CASTOR
quartz-tungsten sampling calorimeter, to be installed in the very forward
region of the CMS experiment at the LHC. The energy linearity and resolution,
as well as the spatial resolution of the prototype to electromagnetic and
hadronic showers are studied with E=20-200 GeV electrons, E=20-350 GeV pions,
and E=50,150 GeV muons from beam tests carried out at CERN/SPS in 2004. The
responses of the calorimeter using two different types of photodetectors
(avalanche photodiodes APDs, and photomultiplier tubes PMTs) are compared.Comment: 16 pages, 22 figs., submitted to EPJ-
Search for T-violation in K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma Decays
The recent progress in search for T-violating transverse muon polarization in
the decays K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma in the on-going
experiment E246 at KEK is reported. Future prospects in polarization
measurements are also discussed.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, talk at the Conference of Nuclear Physics

Modern Approaches to Vaccination of Patients with Chronic Liver Diseases and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases against a Novel Coronavirus Infection
Aim. To analyze the literature data on the peculiarities of vaccination of patients with chronic liver diseases (CLD) and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) against COVID-19 infection.Key findings. It has been shown that many patients with CLD (cirrhosis of the liver, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) have a higher risk of severe course of a novel coronavirus infection, which necessitates their vaccination. IBD patients are also subject to vaccination, although the immunomodulatory drugs which they take may reduce its effectiveness. In addition, the correct timing of the vaccine administration is of great importance. Vaccination of patients with CLD and IBD is safe, and the frequency of side effects during its implementation does not differ from that in the general population.Conclusion. Analysis of literature data shows that patients with CLD and IBD are subject to vaccination against COVID-19 infection, which is effective and safe
The Construction and Parameters of Forward Hadron Calorimeter (FHCAL) at MPD/NICA
Forward hadron calorimeter (FHCAL) at MPD/NICA experimental setup is intended for the measurements of the geometry of heavy ions collisions, namely, the collision centrality and the orientation of the reaction plane. FHCAL consists of two identical arms placed at the left/right sides from the beam collision point. This is a modular lead- scintillator compensating calorimeter designed to measure the energy distribution of the projectile nuclei fragments (spectators) and forward going particles close to the beam rapidity
