    Body shape comparison of Cyprinion macrostomum (Heckel, 1843) and Cyprinion watsoni (Day, 1872) using geometric moprphometrics method

    This study investigated shape differences in two species of Cyprinion macrostomum from Tigris basin and Cyprinion watsoni from Hormuz basin using discriminate function analysis. Coordinates of 17 external landmark points on 2D pictures were used for the analysis. There were significant differences of the two species. C. macrostomum have longer head length, snout length, preventral distance, head height, body height and length of pectoral fin bases than those of C. watsoni. The caudal peduncle length, caudal peduncle depth and anal fin base length in C. watsoni are longer than those of C. macrostomum, the pectoral fin in C. macrostomum was originated more posteriorly than that C. watsoni. Based on the geometric morphometrics differences, the two species can be well recognized and differentiated

    DNA barcoding of Aphanius vladykovi from different habitats in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari Province, Iran

    This study was aimed to reveal the possible cryptic diversity of the Aphanius vladykovi populations in the Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari Province, Iran using mitochondrial cytochrome-c oxidase subunit I (COI). A total of 30 specimens from the Beheshtabad River, Choghakhor and Gandoman Wetlands, and Brovi, Shalamzar, and Balagholi springs from the Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari Province were collected. The maximum within-population genetic distance based on K2P was 0.28% and this distance was 0.22% between populations of Gandoman and Brovi with Shalmazar, whereas the least genetic distance was observed between Choghakhor and Beheshtabad (0.09%). A total of six haplotypes were observed between the studied specimens. Maximum Likelihood (ML) and Neighbor-Joining (NJ) trees reconstructed and all haplotypes from A. vladykovi specimens collected from non-type localities nested in one group with A. vladykovi from Choghakhor wetland i.e. type locality. The results of this study detected no cryptic diversity in A. vladykovi inhabiting different habitats in the studied region. Hence, it is proposed to consider all the studied populations in conservation measures related to A. vladycovi

    Length-weight relationships of Garra rufa, in the Tigris and Persian Gulf basins of Iran

    Garra rufa, a bottom dwelling freshwater fish and native to the Middle East, is distributed in the southwestern of Iran and the Tigris basin. Considering the importance of length-weight relationships data of a species in different habitats, the length-weight relationship of G. rufa from 13 rivers in the Persian Gulf and the Tigris basins was explored. The value of exponent b ranged from 2.74 to 3.19 with average of 2.99 in the Tigris basin and 2.96 in the Persian Gulf basin which was in normal range (2.5-3.5). As the length-weight parameters were concluded for each location separately, this information would be useful for further population dynamics researches

    Mixed stock assessment of lake-run Caspian Sea trout Salmo caspius in the Lar National Park, Iran

    A total of 120 Caspian Sea trout specimens from five streams and Lar Lake of the Lar National Park plus 27 Caspian Sea trout specimens (out-group) from the Babolrud River drainage in the Caspian Sea Basin (Iran) were analyzed using 12 microsatellite loci to assess population genetic structure and to estimate the contribution of each population to the lake-run stock. In addition to the Babolrud River population that was significantly differentiated (P <0.001) from that in Lar National Park, the Dalichay population was significantly differentiated from other populations (P <0.001). The Dalichay and Absefid populations showed no contribution to the lake-run trout stock, while the others that did not show population genetic structure showed a 100% contribution to the lake-run trout stock. The different contributions to the lake-run trout stock estimated here may be related to the habitat qualifies that make the habitats suitable for natural Caspian Sea trout production or to different migratory behaviors between resident and lake-run trout. The results show that more stringent protection of the stream habitats for the contributing populations should be considered in order to sustain recreational fishing in the lake.Peer reviewe

    A New Method for Bilateral Teleoperation Passivity under Varying Time Delays

    A new framework is proposed to mitigate the adverse effect of time-varying time delays on the passivity of a teleoperation system. To this end, the communication channel with time-varying delays is modeled as a constant-delay channel along with additive output disturbances. Then, disturbance estimator blocks are added in each of the feedforward and feedback paths to estimate these disturbances and to compensate for them. In the disturbance estimator block, there is a need for a virtual time-varying delay block such that the overall communication channel can be seen as one with a constant delay. We also propose a method for determining this virtual delay. Two PHANToM haptic devices connected through a communication channel with time-varying delays are considered for a case study. Simulation and experimental results confirm the efficiency of the proposed method in terms of passivating the teleoperation system in the presence of time-varying delays
