    Ophthalmic Parasitosis: A Review Article

    Get PDF
Ocular parasitosis in human is more prevalent in geographical areas where environmental factors and poor sanitary conditions favor the parasitism between man and animals. Lesions in the eye can be due to damage directly caused by the infectious pathogen, indirect pathology caused by toxic products, or the immune response incited by infections or ectopic parasitism. The epidemiology of parasitic ocular diseases reflects the habitat of the causative parasites as well as the habits and health status of the patient. An ocular examination may provide clues to the underlying disease/infection, and an awareness of the possibilities of travel-related pathology may shed light on an ocular presentation. This paper is a comprehensive review of the parasitic diseases of the eye. The majority of the clinically important species of parasites involved in eye infection are reviewed in this paper. Parasites are discussed by the disease or infection they cause

Nowadays, Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) sheet bonding method has been rapidly introduced for reinforcing and/or retrofitting of the existing Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures. Due to bonding normal FRP sheet onto the tension-side surface of the RC members, the effects due to bonding the FRP sheet can be expected after rebar yielding. However, cracking and rebar yielding loads cannot be much improved. Recently, in order to increase not only the ultimate load-carrying capacity of the RC members but also cracking and rebar yielding loads, pre-tensioned FRP sheet bonding method has been developed. In the previous studies, metal system was applied as anchoring devices of the sheet. Even though the premature failure at the ends of the sheet can be prevented by applying the metallic anchoring system, the installation of the system into RC members is not easy task because of its heavy weight. Also, stainless steel must be used to be anti-corrosive when FRP sheet is applied. Then, in order to easily apply the pre-tensioned FRP sheet bonding method for reinforcing RC members, the anchoring system should be simplified without any dropping of anchoring performance. From this point of view, here, a flexural reinforcing method using pre-tensioned AFRP sheet without metallic device was proposed. In this method, to distribute the concentrated anchoring stresses of pre-tensioned AFRP sheet, the base cross-directional non-pre-tensioned AFRP sheet was bonded to the concrete surface around the anchoring area. In addition, to decrease gradients of bonding stresses near the anchoring area, a strain relaxation polymer (with low young’s modulus) was used as a bonding material. The applicability of the method was discussed by conducting four-point loading test of the flexural reinforced RC beams with pre-tensioned AFRP sheet and comparing the experimental results with the numerical ones. The analytical portion of the research is employed to describe the flexural behavior of the all tested beams. A multi-section method was applied to analytically estimate the load-displacement relation and the axial strain distribution of AFRP sheet used for flexural reinforcing each RC beam. This research is divided into three studies as follows; (1) Strengthening Study of RC beams; this study examined the behavior of flexural pre-tensioned AFRP strengthening systems without anchoring device, hence investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of a proposed anchoring method. The variables used in the experimental program included the pre-tension force ratio introduced to the AFRP sheet (0, 20, and 40%) and the main reinforcement steel ratio (0.79 and 1.24%). From this study, the results show that the proposed anchoring method is effective and feasible because the load-carrying capacity increased considerably. A good agreement between experimental and analytical methods was achieved up to ultimate state with somewhat a perfect bonding between the AFRP sheet and concrete surface. (2) Strengthening Study of pre-cracked RC beams; this study investigated the load-carrying behavior of pre-cracked RC beams strengthened with pre-tensioned sheet compared to non-pre-cracked ones. Pre-tension force ratio introduced to the AFRP sheet (0 and 40%) and level of prior loading (Level 1 is up to main rebar yielding; Level 2 is up to average point between main rebar yielding and ultimate load) were taken as variables. From this study, it is observed that due to introducing pre-tension force into the sheet, flexural capacity and durability of the pre-cracked RC beams can be improved and the width of cracks can be decreased. This implies that a new anchoring method is effective and feasible. Numerical results can better match the experimental results for non-pre-cracked beams but not for pre-cracked beams subjected to high prior loading because the existing cracks and the stiffness of putty used for flattening the bonding surface were not considered in numerical analysis. (3) Repair Study of pre-cracked RC beams; this study examined the effectiveness of pre-tensioned AFRP systems to restore capacity of repaired pre-cracked RC beams reinforced with pre-tensioned sheet. Pre-tension force ratio introduced to the AFRP sheet (0 and 40%), with/without existing cracks and with/without repairing the cracks by injection epoxy resin were taken as variables. From this study, it can be concluded that : 1) flexural load-carrying capacity of the pre-cracked RC beams can be significantly improved by bonding the pre-tensioned AFRP sheet onto the tension-side surface;2) by repairing the existing cracks, the sheet rupture can be prevented because the opening of cracks and also large strains occurring in the sheet due to the opening can be rationally restrained; and 3) numerical results can better match the experimental results for non-pre-cracked beams but not for pre-cracked ones.室蘭工業大学 (Muroran Institute of Technology)博士(工学

Copyright @ 2003 IEEEThe use of terminal shunt capacitance has different effects on the displacement factor and distortion factor components of the power factor. These effects are considered for nonlinear loads with ideal supply, and also where the supply impedance exists but is small compared with the load impedance. Optimization of the displacement factor is found to result in reduction of the distortion factor to a minimum value

The Qur’an has many miraculous aspects, about which there has been much talk in the past and the present. It is related to the rhetorical and linguistic aspects, and this research comes as one of these episodes that reveal the secret of the uniqueness of the words of the Holy Qur’an in general and the uniqueness of its words in particular, which came in an unprecedented manner and was organized in a non-repetitive way between the folds of its verses, so it was distinguished and unique in that it was not repeated, even its root as well. So it was consistent with the splendor of its presentation and organized in its context, in a tight linguistic system from a wise expert, and to be specific, the research was limited only to the unique words of animals and insects that were mentioned in the entire Qur’an, using the integrative approach that mixes the historical method that traces the phenomenon to the origin of its origin, and from the first to launch it and use it through the times to what it has now settled, and the linguistic analytical method, which is useful in analyzing words linguistically to understand the meaning, then the descriptive method, which monitors the characteristics of the phenomenon and its features, then clarifying this uniqueness, its rhetorical effects, and its aesthetic value. Its graphic secret is a purely artistic work that falls under the artistic method. Accordingly, the study came in three main sections and a conclusion, accompanied by the sources and references of the research. The first of them: the definition of the uniques linguistically and idiomatically, the second: the uniqueness in the critical and rhetorical heritage, and the third: the uniqueness of animals and insects in the Qur’an. Perhaps with this we add a new twist to Qur’anic studies, in fulfillment of the Qur’an, and in enriching its language

Objectives: In patients with symptomatic apical periodontitis, this randomized clinical trial evaluated the impact of intraoral cryotherapy treatment on the level of inflammatory mediators.Materials and methods: Two groups, one for cryotherapy and the other for control (n = 10), were randomly assigned to twenty patients with symptomatic apical periodontitis. In the cryotherapy group, when biomechanical preparation was finished, 30 minutes of intraoral cryotherapy application (a cold pack of ice gel covered in a sealed plastic cover) were done. Samples of apical fluid were taken with paper points that extended 2 mm past the apex. In the control group after mechanical preparation and after 30 minutes, and in the cryotherapy group after mechanical preparation and after cold application. The ELISA test was used to measure the levels of substance P. The data were examined using an independent t-test.Results: The cryotherapy group's change in substance P level was greater than that of the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P ≥ 0.05). Conclusions: The substance P level was changed by intraoral cryotherapy greater than control, though not significantly. More research with a larger sample size is necessary to obtain results that are statistically significant

The purpose of this study is to investigates the effect of global financial crisis (GFC) on the presented and returned checks in Jordan i.e. cause-affect perspective research. The imperial data were collected from the Jordanian Department of Statistics, Central Bank of Jordan, and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) market data base; the data covered 15 years from 1999 to 2013 to run the analysis. A Bivariate Pearson Correlation and Multiple Regressions were used to test the relationships between GFC and presented and returned checks and the effect GFC on presented and returned checks. A Bivariate Pearson correlation analysis shows that there is a strong significant correlation between presented checks and returned checks. Also, it shows that there is a significant relationship between Dow Jones market drop and increased presented checks. However, it shows that there is no significant correlation between Dow Jones drop and the returned checks. The multiple regressions show that there is a positive effect for GFC on presented checks for clearance in Jordan, and there is a negative effect for GFC on returned checks in Jordan. Generalizing Jordanian results to other countries may be questionable. Therefore, this study recommends extending the analysis to other Arab countries to mitigate the issue of generalizing conclusions on other countries. This study also may be considered as an initiative study which considered the effect of GFC on presented and return checks in Jordan.
