Burnout syndrome in Europe: towards a harmonized approach in occupational health practice and research.

Health practitioners and decision makers in the medical and insurance systems need knowledge on the work-relatedness of burnout. To gather the most reliable information regarding burnout diagnosis and recognition in Europe, we used an 8-item standard questionnaire sent by e-mail to occupational health specialists identified via the Network on the Coordination and Harmonization of European Occupational Cohorts (OMEGA-NET) within the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action. Participation rate was 100%, and the questionnaire was completed for 37 countries. In 14 (38%) countries burnout syndrome can be acknowledged as an occupational disease. However, only one country included burnout on the list of occupational diseases. The results showed a high variability in burnout diagnosis, in assessment of its work-relatedness, and in conditions allowing compensation of patients. These results reflect a lack of graded evidence on burnout and its determinants. The ongoing research on burnout conducted in the frame of the OMEGA-NET COST Action should be helpful through facilitating standardization of both existing and new data on burnout, a priority outcome requiring harmonization

This article raises the question of how to make learning Russian as a foreign language (at the stage of mastering A2-B1 levels) by students more interesting and productive, given the growing social isolation of young people affected by the "virus of computer autism" who don’t want to participate in discussion of topics and materials for reading proposed and recommended by the Program of the Ministry of education of the Russian Federation. The authors noted that at the same time socially closed students are happy to read and are ready to discuss popular scientific texts (in our case, geography) and are happy to write lexical and grammatical tests and substitution exercises, as they are used to solving this kind of problems and in such ways. The expediency of interdisciplinary merges at the lessons of Russian as a foreign language is confirmed by the three-year introduction to the curriculum of the Department of Russian language #3 for students of Humanities of the Faculty of Russian Language and General Educational Disciplines of RUDN University.

Cerebral structural characteristics in children with unilateral amblyopia: A mri study

Objective. To study the mechanism of the development of amblyopia using the analysis of brain grey matter parameters. The areas primarily associated with visual cortex in children with amblyopia were analyzed. Material and methods. The study group comprised 8 right-handed children with left-sided amblyopia. MRI images were obtained by 1.5T Toshiba scanner with 3D MP-RAGE. Т1-images were processed with FreeSurfer (5.3.0 version, http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/). Results and conclusion. No significant interhemisphere differences by cortical thickness were identified in all tested regions of interest. In correlation analysis, only the positive correlation between visual acuity in the left eye and cortical thickness in the left pericalcarine as well as the positive correlation between visual acuity in the left eye and cortical thickness in the left V1 area obtained using another anatomical atlas survived multiple comparison correction. The findings support the hypothesis that pathological ontogenetic processes in children with amblyopia lead to the structural abnormalities of the primary visual cortex. © 2018, Media Sphera Publishing Group. Meso-substituted-BODIPY based fluorescent biomarker: Spectral characteristics, photostability and possibilities for practical application

    No full text
© 2020 Elsevier B.V. A fluorescent biomarker based on the boron(III) complex with meso-4-methoxycarbonylbutyl-substituted 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethyl-2,2′-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) was synthesized. The BODIPY exhibits a large extinction coefficient (lgε ∼4.82–5.00) at 496–501 nm and high fluorescence quantum yield (∼77–100 %) in the blue-green region of the spectrum (509–518 nm). The maximal fluorescence quantum yield (φ) is observed in non-polar media (∼100 %) while φ slightly decreases to ∼90 % in alcohols (with the exception of octanol-1) and to ∼77 % in electron-donating dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The BODIPY fluorophore demonstrates high photostability with the half-life of 41.4 and 91 h in toluene and cyclohexane, respectively. The proposed luminophore preferentially stains gram-positive bacteria and can be used for differential staining of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in mixed cultures. BODIPY also accumulates in the cytoplasm of the mammalian cells giving polar micro-speckled staining pattern which is more intensive in the tumor cells when compared to the fibroblasts. The pronounced affinity of BODIPY to mitochondria of eukaryotic cells could be used for specific staining of these organelles

Towards harmonisation of case definitions for eight work-related musculoskeletal disorders - an international multi-disciplinary Delphi study.

International consensus is needed on case definitions of work-related musculoskeletal disorders and diseases (MSDs) for use in epidemiological research. We aim to: 1) study what information is needed for the case definition of work-related low back pain (LBP), lumbosacral radicular syndrome (LRS), subacromial pain syndrome (SAPS), carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), lateral and medial elbow tendinopathy, and knee and hip osteoarthritis, and to 2) seek consensus among occupational health professionals/researchers regarding the case definitions of these work-related MSDs. A two-round Delphi study was conducted with occupational health professionals/researchers from 24 countries. Definition of work-related MSDs were composed of a case definition with work exposures. Round 1 included 32 case definitions and round 2, 60 case definitions. After two rounds, consensus required 75% of the panellists to rate a case definition including work exposures ≥7 points on a 9-point rating scale (completely disagree/completely agree). Fifty-eight panellists completed both rounds (response rate 90%). Forty-five (70%) panellists thought that for LBP a case definition can be based on symptoms only. Consensus was only reached for work-related medial elbow tendinopathy, while the lowest agreement was found for knee osteoarthritis. Where consensus was not reached, this was - except for LBP - related to physical examination and imaging rather than disagreement on key symptoms. Consensus on case definitions was reached only for work-related medial elbow tendinopathy. Epidemiological research would benefit from harmonized case definitions for all MSDs including imaging and physical examination for LRS, SAPS, CTS, lateral elbow tendinopathy and hip and knee osteoarthritis
