Effects of MDMA on Extracellular Dopamine and Serotonin Levels in Mice Lacking Dopamine and/or Serotonin Transporters
3,4-Methylendioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) has both stimulatory and hallucinogenic properties which make its psychoactive effects unique and different from those of typical psychostimulant and hallucinogenic agents. The present study investigated the effects of MDMA on extracellular dopamine (DAex) and serotonin (5-HTex) levels in the striatum and prefrontal cortex (PFC) using in vivo microdialysis techniques in mice lacking DA transporters (DAT) and/or 5-HT transporters (SERT). subcutaneous injection of MDMA (3, 10 mg/kg) significantly increased striatal DAex in wild-type mice, SERT knockout mice, and DAT knockout mice, but not in DAT/SERT double-knockout mice. The MDMA-induced increase in striatal DAex in SERT knockout mice was significantly less than in wildtype mice. In the PFC, MDMA dose-dependently increased DAex levels in wildtype, DAT knockout, SERT knockout and DAT/SERT double-knockout mice to a similar extent. In contrast, MDMA markedly increased 5-HTex in wildtype and DAT knockout mice and slightly increased 5-HTex in SERT-KO and DAT/SERT double-knockout mice. The results confirm that MDMA acts at both DAT and SERT and increases DAex and 5-HTex
MOP Reduction During Long-Term Methamphetamine Withdrawal was Restored by Chronic Post-Treatment with Fluoxetine
Previously, we found fluoxetine reduces methamphetamine preference in mice. However, effects of fluoxetine on developed methamphetamine preference and on methamphetamine induced gene expression changes have been largely unknown. The present study investigates effects of post-treatment with fluoxetine on methamphetamine dependence and on gene expressions after long-term withdrawal in mice. First, we examined whether chronic post-treatment with fluoxetine attenuated methamphetamine-conditioned place preference. Next, we examined the changes in gene expression levels after long-term withdrawal (with saline or fluoxetine treatment) following chronic methamphetamine treatment. Using mRNA from the pooled frontal cortices of 10 mice per group, gene expression analyses were performed using a custom-developed cDNA array and a real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR. Chronic post-treatments with fluoxetine abolished the conditioned place preference developed by methamphetamine administrations. Even after long-term withdrawal from repeated methamphetamine administration, µ-opioid receptor (MOP) gene expression was significantly reduced in the frontal cortex. The reduced MOP gene expression in the frontal cortex was restored by chronic administration with fluoxetine. These changes were confirmed by Western blot analyses. These findings suggest that the chronic post-treatments with fluoxetine might be effective for restoring the reduction of MOP levels in the frontal cortex following long-term abstinence from methamphetamine
A study of the etapipi channel produced in central pp interactions at 450 GeV/c
The reaction pp -> pf (eta pi pi) ps has been studied at 450 GeV/c. There is
clear evidence for an a2(1320)pi decay mode of the eta2(1645) and eta2(1870).
In addition, there is evidence for an a0(980)pi$ decay mode of both resonances
and an f2(1270)eta decay mode of the eta2(1870). No evidence is found for a JPC
= 2++ a2(1320)pi wave.Comment: 15 pages, Latex, 4 Figures Branching ratio a2pi /f2 eta correcte
A study of the f0(1370), f0(1500), f0(2000) and f2(1950) observed in the centrally produced 4pi final states
The production and decay properties of the f0(1370), f0(1500), f0(2000) and
f2(1950) have been studied in central pp interactions at 450 GeV/c. The dPT,
phi and |t| distributions of these resonances are presented. For the J = 0
states, the f0(1370) and f0(2000) have similar dPT and phi dependences. These
are different to the dPT and phi dependences of the f0(980), f0(1500) and
f0(1710). For the J = 2 states the f2(1950) has different dependences to the
f2(1270) and f2'(1520). This shows that the dPT and phi dependences are not
just J phenomena.Comment: 14 pages, Latex, 4 Figure
A search for charmonium states produced in central pp interactions at 450 GeV/c
A search for centrally produced charmonium states has been presented. There
is no significant evidence for any charmonium production. An upper limit of 2
nb is found for the cross section of chic production using the decay chic(1P)->
J/psi gamma.Comment: 10 pages, Latex, 4 Figure
A study of the centrally produced pi0pi0pi0 channel in pp interactions at 450 GeV/c
The reaction pp -> pf (pi0pi0pi0) ps has been studied at 450 GeV/c. The
pi0pi0pi0 effective mass spectrum shows clear eta(547) and pi2(1670) signals.
Branching ratios for the eta(547) and pi_2(1670) are given as well as upper
limits for the decays of the omega(782), a1(1260) and a2(1320) into 3pi0.Comment: 10 pages, Latex, 4 Figure
A coupled channel analysis of the centrally produced K+K- and pi+pi- final states in pp interactions at 450 GeV/c
A coupled channel analysis of the centrally produced K+K- and pi+pi- final
states has been performed in pp collisions at an incident beam momentum of 450
GeV/c. The pole positions and branching ratios to pipi and KK of the f0(980),
f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1710) have been determined. A systematic study of the
production properties of all the resonances observed in the pi+pi- and K+K-
channels has been performed.Comment: 16 pages, Latex, 5 Figure
Experimental evidence for a vector-like behaviour of Pomeron exchange
Evidence is presented that the Pomeron act as a non-conserved vector current.
A study has been made of the azimuthal angle phi, which is defined as the angle
between the pT vectors of the two outgoing protons, in the reaction pp ->
pp(X0) for those resonances (X0) which are compatible with being produced by
double Pomeron exchange. These distributions have been compared with a model
which describes the Pomeron as a non-conserved vector current and a qualitative
agreement is found. In addition, when one of the particles exchanged is known
to have spin 0, namely pi-Pomeron exchange, the phi distribution is flat.Comment: 13 pages, Latex, 4 Figure
Isospin character of low-lying states in 56Fe.
Low-lying states in {sup 56}Fe, up to an excitation energy of about 4 MeV, have been investigated by means of inelastic proton and deuteron scattering experiments at {ital E}{sub {ital p}}=65 and 400 MeV and at {ital E}{sub {ital d}}=56 MeV, respectively. Measured cross sections and analyzing powers have been compared with coupled-channels calculations using collective form factors; calculations in both the Schr{umlt o}dinger and Dirac formalisms have been carried out for the proton data. For each probe, the matrix elements have been deduced for transitions from the ground state and from the 2{sub 1}{sup +} state to six quadrupole (2{sup +}) states to one octupole (3{sub 1}{sup {minus}}) and two hexadecapole (4{sub 1}{sup +} and 4{sub 2}{sup +}) states. The obtained matrix elements and the previous values from {gamma} decay or electron inelastic scattering have been used to evaluate the isospin character of the transitions. To discuss the quadrupole mixed-symmetry states in {sup 56}Fe, the deduced neutron ({ital M}{sub {ital n}}) and proton ({ital M}{sub {ital p}}) components of the matrix elements, or equivalently the isoscalar ({ital M}{sub {ital s}}) and isovector ({ital M}{sub {ital v}}) parts, have been compared with theoretical calculations based on the neutron-proton interacting bosonmore » model and on the shell model evaluated in a full {ital f}-{ital p} configuration space. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}« les
