    The entangling side of the Unruh-Hawking effect

    We show that the Unruh effect can create net quantum entanglement between inertial and accelerated observers depending on the choice of the inertial state. This striking result banishes the extended belief that the Unruh effect can only destroy entanglement and furthermore provides a new and unexpected source for finding experimental evidence of the Unruh and Hawking effects.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures.     Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution using bi-metallic (Ni/Pt) Na2Ti3O7 whiskers: Effect of the deposition order

    Photocatalytic hydrogen production through ethanol photo-reforming using Na2Ti3O7 whiskers increases if the sodium titanate is decorated with well-known metallic catalysts such as Ni and Pt. Whereas wet impregnation with nickel gives only a slight increase in the activity, photo-deposition of Pt increased the H2 production by more than one order of magnitude. Through the combination of both co-catalysts (Ni and Pt) a superior performance in terms of H2 production is further observed. However, hydrogen yield is largely enhanced (almost three-fold), up to 778 ÎŒmol·g−1·h−1, if the Pt is photo-deposited on the surface of the catalyst before wet impregnation with Ni species (NTO/Pt/Ni) compared to H2 yield (283 ÎŒmol·g−1·h−1) achieved with the catalyst prepared in the reverse order (NTO/Ni/Pt). Structural, morphological, optical, and chemical characterization was carried out in order to correlate physicochemical properties with their photocatalytic activity. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results show a higher concentration of Pt2+ species if this metallic layer is under the nickel oxide layer. Moreover, X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) show that Na2Ti3O7 surface is modified for both metal decoration processes

    Acute Stress in Health Workers during Two Consecutive EpidemicWaves of COVID-19

    The COVID-19 pandemic has provoked generalized uncertainty around the world, with health workers experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, insomnia, and stress. Although the effects of the pandemic on mental health may change as it evolves, the majority of reports have been web-based, cross-sectional studies. We performed a study assessing acute stress in frontline healthworkers during two consecutive epidemic waves. After screening for trait anxiety/depression and dissociative experiences, we evaluated changes in acute stress, considering resilience, state anxiety, burnout, depersonalization/derealization symptoms, and quality of sleep as cofactors. During the first epidemic wave (April 2020), health workers reported acute stress related to COVID-19, which was related to state anxiety. After the first epidemic wave, acute stress decreased, with no increase during the second epidemic wave (December 2020), and further decreased when vaccination started.During the follow-up (April 2020 to February 2021), the acute stress score was related to bad quality of sleep. However, acute stress, state anxiety, and burnout were all related to trait anxiety/depression, while the resilience score was invariant through time.     ctive: Evaluate the biological effectiveness of native entomopathogenic fungi to control Spodoptera frugiperda and Schistocerca piceifrons piceifrons, as well as the natural incidence of parasitoids in S. frugiperda. Design/Methodology/Approach: Six strains of Metarhizium anisopliae (A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, and A6) and three strains of Isaria fumosorosea (B4, B5, and B6) were collected. S. frugiperda larvae were inoculated with all the isolated strains of Metarhizium and Isaria; while, the nymphs of S. p. piceifrons were inoculated with strains A1, A5, A6, B4, and B5. Mortality (%) and natural incidence of parasitoids in S. frugiperda larvae were evaluated. Mortality was analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and a comparison of means (Duncan; ɑ = 0.05) in the INFOSTAT 2021 software. Parasitism was reported with descriptive statistics (%). Results: Strains A1, A6, and B6 caused the highest mortality (86.6-90.0 %) in S. frugiperda larvae. Strains A1, A5, A6, and B6 caused the highest mortality in nymphs of S. p. piceifrons (90-100 %). Two families of parasitoids were recorded: Tachinidae (Diptera; 7.8 %) and Braconidae (Hymenoptera). Wasps of the genus Meteorus sp. account for 92.2 % of the latter family. Study Limitations/Implications: The biological effectiveness evaluations of the entomopathogenic fungi were carried out under laboratory conditions. The results must still be validated on the field. Findings/Conclusions: Strains A1, A5, and A6 showed a good control of the S. p. piceifrons nymphs. Strain B6 is a biological control alternative for S. p. piceifrons and S. frugiperda, since it recorded the highest mortality for both species

    Como respuesta a la gravedad de los procesos de decaimiento y mortalidad de la encina y el alcornoque, que amenazan la sostenibilidad de sus masas en la PenĂ­nsula IbĂ©rica, en el año 2019 se constituyĂł el subgrupo de trabajo “Mejora genĂ©tica y fisiolĂłgica”, que forma parte del grupo de trabajo “Seca”, coordinado por el MITECO. Este subgrupo incluye a cientĂ­ficos y tĂ©cnicos de varias administraciones y numerosos centros de investigaciĂłn y Universidades y una empresa pĂșblica, expertos en mejora genĂ©tica, fitopatologĂ­a, ecologĂ­a, propagaciĂłn vegetativa, bioquĂ­mica y biologĂ­a molecular. El programa tiene como objetivo la selecciĂłn de genotipos de Quercus ilex y Q. suber tolerantes al estrĂ©s hĂ­drico y a la podredumbre radical provocada por Phytophthora cinnamomi.     Search for high-mass resonances in dilepton final states in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV

    A search is presented for new high-mass resonances decaying into electron or muon pairs. The search uses proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 fb(-1). Observations are in agreement with standard model expectations. Upper limits on the product of a new resonance production cross section and branching fraction to dileptons are calculated in a model-independent manner. This permits the interpretation of the limits in models predicting a narrow dielectron or dimuon resonance. A scan of different intrinsic width hypotheses is performed. Limits are set on the masses of various hypothetical particles. For the Z(SSM)' (Z(psi)') particle, which arises in the sequential standard model (superstring-inspired model), a lower mass limit of 4.50 (3.90) TeV is set at 95% confidence level. The lightest Kaluza-Klein graviton arising in the Randall-Sundrum model of extra dimensions, with coupling parameters k/(M) over bar (Pl) of 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10, is excluded at 95% con fi dence level below 2.10, 3.65, and 4.25TeV, respectively. In a simpli fi ed model of dark matter production via a vector or axial vector mediator, limits at 95% con fi dence level are obtained on the masses of the dark matter particle and its mediator.Peer reviewe

    Evidence for associated production of a Higgs boson with a top quark pair in final states with electrons, muons, and hadronically decaying τ leptons at s=13 \sqrt{s}=13 TeV

    Results of a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a top quark pair (ttÂŻH) in final states with electrons, muons, and hadronically decaying τ leptons are presented. The analyzed data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 recorded in proton-proton collisions at s√=13 TeV by the CMS experiment in 2016. The sensitivity of the search is improved by using matrix element and machine learning methods to separate the signal from backgrounds. The measured signal rate amounts to 1.23 − 0.43 + 0.45 times the production rate expected in the standard model, with an observed (expected) significance of 3.2σ (2.8σ), which represents evidence for ttÂŻH production in those final states. An upper limit on the signal rate of 2.1 times the standard model production rate is set at 95% confidence level
