Amplitudes Fitted to Experimental Data and to Roy's Equations
The scalar-isoscalar, scalar-isotensor and vector-isovector pi-pi amplitudes
are fitted simultaneously to experimental data and to Roy's equations. The
resulting amplitudes are compared with those fitted only to experimental data.
No additional constraints for the pi-pi threshold behaviour of the amplitudes
are imposed. Threshold parameters are calculated for the amplitudes in the
three waves. Spectrum of scalar mesons below 1.8 GeV is found from the analysis
of the analytical structure of the fitted amplitudes.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure. Talk given at MESON 2004: 8th International

Our Year of Remote Reference: COVID19’s Impact on Reference Services and Librarians
After a full year of providing fully remote library reference due to the COVID-19 pandemic campus closures, this exploratory study looks at reference practices of libraries, and librarian response to those practices, at a large, urban, public university. This article focuses on the impact COVID-19 had on reference services themselves, as well as the perceptions of those who provide them
Hadronic eta and eta-prime decays
The hadronic decays eta, eta-prime -> 3 pi and eta-prime -> eta pi pi are
investigated within the framework of U(3) chiral effective field theory in
combination with a relativistic coupled-channels approach. Final state
interactions are included by deriving s- and p-wave interaction kernels for
meson-meson scattering from the chiral effective Lagrangian and iterating them
in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. Very good overall agreement with currently
available data on decay widths and spectral shapes is achieved.Comment: 28 pages, 5 figures, 8 table

C3b/iC3b Deposition on Streptococcus pneumoniae Is Not Affected by HIV Infection
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a common cause of infection in both HIV positive patients and those with complement deficiencies. We hypothesised that HIV positive individuals might exhibit reduced opsonisation of pneumococcus with complement due to reduced levels of S. pneumoniae specific IgG. We discovered no difference in C3 deposition on S. pneumoniae between HIV positive or negative individuals, and furthermore C3 deposition remained unchanged as HIV progressed towards AIDS. We found no correlation between C3 deposition on S. pneumoniae and CD4 cell count in HIV infected individuals. Hence we have demonstrated no failure of complement immunity in HIV positive patients
Masses and widths of scalar-isoscalar multi-channel resonances from data analysis
Peculiarities of obtaining parameters for broad multi-channel resonances from
data are discussed analyzing the experimental data on processes
in the channel in a
model-independent approach based on analyticity and unitarity and using an
uniformization procedure. We show that it is possible to obtain a good
description of the scattering data from the threshold to 1.89 GeV with
parameters of resonances cited in the PDG tables as preferred. However, in this
case, first, representation of the background is unsatisfactory;
second, the data on the coupled process are not well
described even qualitatively above 1.15 GeV when using the resonance parameters
from the only scattering analysis. The combined analysis of these
coupled processes is needed, which is carried out satisfactorily. Then both
above-indicated flaws, related to the analysis of solely the
-scattering, are cured. The most remarkable change of parameters with
respect to the values of only scattering analysis appears for the mass
of the which is now in some accordance with the Weinberg prediction
on the basis of mended symmetry and with an analysis using the large-
consistency conditions between the unitarization and resonance saturation. The
obtained -scattering length in case when we restrict to the
analysis of the scattering or consider so-called A-solution (with a
lower mass and width of meson) agrees well with prediction of chiral
perturbation theory (ChPT) and with data extracted at CERN by the NA48/2
Collaboration from the analysis of the decay and by the DIRAC
Collaboration from the measurement of the lifetime.Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures, 6 table

The results of the recent experiments on the reaction
performed at KEK, BNL, IHEP, and CERN are analyzed in detail. For the I=0
S wave phase shift and inelasticity a new set
of data is obtained. Difficulties emerging when using the physical solutions
for the S and D wave amplitudes extracted with the partial wave
analyses are discussed. Attention is drawn to the fact that, for the
invariant mass, m, above 1 GeV, the other solutions, in principle,
are found to be more preferred. For clarifying the situation and further
studying the resonance thorough experimental investigations of the
reaction in the m region near the threshold

On the precision of the theoretical predictions for pi pi scattering
In a recent paper, Pelaez and Yndurain evaluate some of the low energy
observables of pi pi scattering and obtain flat disagreement with our earlier
results. The authors work with unsubtracted dispersion relations, so that their
results are very sensitive to the poorly known high energy behaviour of the
scattering amplitude. They claim that the asymptotic representation we used is
incorrect and propose an alternative one. We repeat their calculations on the
basis of the standard, subtracted fixed-t dispersion relations, using their
asymptotics. The outcome fully confirms our earlier findings. Moreover, we show
that the Regge parametrization proposed by these authors for the region above
1.4 GeV violates crossing symmetry: Their ansatz is not consistent with the
behaviour observed at low energies.Comment: Added more material, mostly in Sects. 7, 8 and 9, in support of the
