Unified Analysis of Cosmological Perturbations in Generalized Gravity
In a class of generalized Einstein's gravity theories we derive the equations
and general asymptotic solutions describing the evolution of the perturbed
universe in unified forms. Our gravity theory considers general couplings
between the scalar field and the scalar curvature in the Lagrangian, thus
includes broad classes of generalized gravity theories resulting from recent
attempts for the unification. We analyze both the scalar-type mode and the
gravitational wave in analogous ways. For both modes the large scale evolutions
are characterized by the same conserved quantities which are valid in the
Einstein's gravity. This unified and simple treatment is possible due to our
proper choice of the gauges, or equivalently gauge invariant combinations.Comment: 4 pages, revtex, no figure
Cosmological perturbations in a gravity with quadratic order curvature couplings
We present a set of equations describing the evolution of the scalar-type
cosmological perturbation in a gravity with general quadratic order curvature
coupling terms. Equations are presented in a gauge ready form, thus are ready
to implement various temporal gauge conditions depending on the problems. The
Ricci-curvature square term leads to a fourth-order differential equation for
describing the spacetime fluctuations in a spatially homogeneous and isotropic

Negative Differential Resistance Induced by Mn Substitution at SrRuO3/Nb:SrTiO3 Schottky Interfaces
We observed a strong modulation in the current-voltage characteristics of
SrRuO/Nb:SrTiO Schottky junctions by Mn substitution in SrRuO,
which induces a metal-insulator transition in bulk. The temperature dependence
of the junction ideality factor indicates an increased spatial inhomogeneity of
the interface potential with substitution. Furthermore, negative differential
resistance was observed at low temperatures, indicating the formation of a
resonant state by Mn substitution. By spatially varying the position of the Mn
dopants across the interface with single unit cell control, we can isolate the
origin of this resonant state to the interface SrRuO layer. These results
demonstrate a conceptually different approach to controlling interface states
by utilizing the highly sensitive response of conducting perovskites to
impurities
Extraction of Lipids from Grain Sorghum DDG
Soxhlet and recirculated solvent extraction methods were used to extract lipid materials from grain sorghum DDG. The lipid content in DDG with a moisture content of 6.7% (dry basis) was as high as 9.32% of the dried DDG as determined by Soxhlet extraction with n-hexane. There was a slight increase in the lipid yield from 9.21% to 9.68% when the moisture contents increased from 2.1% to 17.4% (d.b.). Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) analysis showed that the sorghum lipids were composed of triacylglycerols, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, fatty aldehydes, free sterols, wax esters, and steryl esters. A bench-scale recirculated extraction system was used to investigate the extractability of lipid materials from the DDG under various experimental conditions including solvent to solid ratio (2:1 to 5:1), extraction temperature (45°C, 55°C, 68°C), and extraction time (1 to 6 h). The extractability of DDG lipid ranged from 70.3% to 94.5%. At extraction temperatures near the boiling point of n-hexane, a solvent to solid ratio of 3:1, and an extraction time of 4 h achieved the maximum lipid yield. There was no apparent increase in the extraction yield with further increase of the solvent to solid ratio or extraction time
Non-abelian dynamics in first-order cosmological phase transitions
Bubble collisions in cosmological phase transitions are explored, taking the
non-abelian character of the gauge fields into account. Both the QCD and
electroweak phase transitions are considered. Numerical solutions of the field

Nanometer scale electronic reconstruction at the interface between LaVO3 and LaVO4
Electrons at interfaces, driven to minimize their free energy, are
distributed differently than in bulk. This can be dramatic at interfaces
involving heterovalent compounds. Here we profile an abrupt interface between V
3d2 LaVO3 and V 3d0 LaVO4 using electron energy loss spectroscopy. Although no
bulk phase of LaVOx with a V 3d1 configuration exists, we find a nanometer-wide
region of V 3d1 at the LaVO3/LaVO4 interface, rather than a mixture of V 3d0
and V 3d2. The two-dimensional sheet of 3d1 electrons is a prototypical
electronic reconstruction at an interface between competing ground states.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
Cosmological Gravitational Wave in a Gravity with Quadratic Order Curvature Couplings
We present a set of equations describing the cosmological gravitational wave
in a gravity theory with quadratic order gravitational coupling terms which
naturally arise in quantum correction procedures. It is known that the
gravitational wave equation in the gravity theories with a general term
in the action leads to a second order differential equation with the only
correction factor appearing in the damping term. The case for a
term is completely different. The gravitational wave is described by a fourth
order differential equation both in time and space. However, curiously, we find
that the contributions to the background evolution are qualitatively the same

Narrow Band Chandra X-ray Analysis of Supernova Remnant 3C391
We present the narrow-band and the equivalent width (EW) images of the
thermal composite supernova remnant (SNR) 3C391 for the X-ray emission lines of
elements Mg, Si, & S using the Chandra ACIS Observational data. These EW images
reveal the spatial distribution of the emission of the metal species Mg, Si, &
S in the remnant. They have clumpy structure similar to that seen from the
broadband diffuse emission, suggesting that they are largely of interstellar
origin. We find an interesting finger-like feature protruding outside the
southwestern radio border of the remnant, which is somewhat similar to the
jet-like Si structure found in the famous SNR Cas A. This feature may possibly
be the debris of the jet of ejecta which implies an asymmetrical supernova
