Superfluidity in Three-species Mixture of Fermi Gases across Feshbach Resonances
In this letter a generalization of the BEC-BCS crossover theory to a
multicomponent superfluid is presented by studying a three-species mixture of
Fermi gas across two Feshbach resonances. At the BEC side of resonances, two
kinds of molecules are stable which gives rise to a two-component Bose
condensate. This two-component superfluid state can be experimentally
identified from the radio-frequency spectroscopy, density profile and short
noise measurements. As approaching the BCS side of resonances, the
superfluidity will break down at some point and yield a first-order quantum
phase transition to normal state, due to the mismatch of three Fermi surfaces.

Residual proton-neutron interactions and the scheme
We investigate the correlation between integrated proton-neutron interactions
obtained by using the up-to-date experimental data of binding energies and the
, the product of valence proton number and valence neutron
number with respect to the nearest doubly closed nucleus. We make corrections
on a previously suggested formula for the integrated proton-neutron
interaction. Our results demonstrate a nice, nearly linear, correlation between
the integrated p-n interaction and , which provides us
with a firm foundation of the applicability of the scheme

Vector modes generated by primordial density fluctuations
While vector modes are usually ignored in cosmology since they are not
produced during inflation they are inevitably produced from the interaction of
density fluctuations of differing wavelengths. This effect may be calculated
via a second-order perturbative expansion. We investigate this effect during
the radiation era. We discuss the generation mechanism by investigating two
scalar modes interacting, and we calculate the power of vector modes generated

Radio Variability of Sagittarius A* - A 106 Day Cycle
We report the presence of a 106-day cycle in the radio variability of Sgr A*
based on an analysis of data observed with the Very Large Array (VLA) over the
past 20 years. The pulsed signal is most clearly seen at 1.3 cm with a ratio of
cycle frequency to frequency width f/Delta_f= 2.2+/-0.3. The periodic signal is
also clearly observed at 2 cm. At 3.6 cm the detection of a periodic signal is
marginal. No significant periodicity is detected at both 6 and 20 cm. Since the
sampling function is irregular we performed a number of tests to insure that
the observed periodicity is not the result of noise. Similar results were found
for a maximum entropy method and periodogram with CLEAN method. The probability
of false detection for several different noise distributions is less than 5%
based on Monte Carlo tests. The radio properties of the pulsed component at 1.3
cm are spectral index alpha ~ 1.0+/- 0.1 (for S nu^alpha), amplitude Delta
S=0.42 +/- 0.04 Jy and characteristic time scale Delta t_FWHM ~ 25 +/- 5 days.
The lack of VLBI detection of a secondary component suggests that the
variability occurs within Sgr A* on a scale of ~5 AU, suggesting an instability

Observation of intrinsic inverse spin Hall effect
We report observation of intrinsic inverse spin Hall effect in un-doped GaAs
multiple quantum wells with a sample temperature of 10 K. A transient ballistic
pure spin current is injected by a pair of laser pulses through quantum
interference. By time-resolving the dynamics of the pure spin current, the
momentum relaxation time is deduced, which sets the lower limit of the
scattering time between electrons and holes. The transverse charge current
generated by the pure spin current via the inverse spin Hall effect is
simultaneously resolved. We find that the charge current is generated well
before the first electron-hole scattering event. Generation of the transverse
current in the scattering-free ballistic transport regime provides unambiguous
evidence for the intrinsic inverse spin Hall effect.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Social dynamics in conferences: analyses of data from the Live Social Semantics application
Popularity and spread of online social networking in recent years has given a great momentum to the study of dynamics and patterns of social interactions. However, these studies have often been confined to the online world, neglecting its interdependencies with the offline world. This is mainly due to the lack of real data that spans across this divide. The Live Social Semantics application is a novel platform that dissolves this divide, by collecting and integrating data about people from (a) their online social networks and tagging activities from popular social networking sites, (b) their publications and co-authorship networks from semantic repositories, and (c) their real-world face-to-face contacts with other attendees collected via a network of wearable active sensors. This paper investigates the data collected by this application during its deployment at three major conferences, where it was used by more than 400 people. Our analyses show the robustness of the patterns of contacts at various conferences, and the influence of various personal properties (e.g. seniority, conference attendance) on social networking patterns
VERITAS Observations of Extragalactic Non-Blazars
During the 2007/2008 season, VERITAS was used for observations at E>200 GeV
of several extragalactic non-blazar objects such as galaxy clusters, starburst
and interacting galaxies, dwarf galaxies, and nearby galaxies. In these
proceedings, we present preliminary results from our observations of dwarf
galaxies and M87. Results from observation of other non-blazar sources are

VERITAS Distant Laser Calibration and Atmospheric Monitoring
As a calibrated laser pulse propagates through the atmosphere, the intensity
of the Rayleigh scattered light arriving at the VERITAS telescopes can be
calculated precisely. This allows for absolute calibration of imaging
atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACT) to be simple and straightforward. In
these proceedings, we present the comparison between laser data and simulation
to estimate the light collection efficiencies of the VERITAS telescopes, and
the analysis of multiple laser data sets taken in different months for
