An Exact Solution for Quantum Tunneling in a Dissipative System

Applying a technique developed recently [1,2] for an harmonic oscillator coupled to a bath of harmonic oscillators, we present an exact solution for the tunneling problem in an Ohmic dissipative system with inverted harmonic potential. The result shows that while the dissipation tends to suppress the tunneling, the Brownian motion tends to enhance the tunneling. Whether the tunneling rate increases or not would then depend on the initial conditions. We give a specific formula to calculate the tunneling probability determined by various parameters and the initial conditions.Comment: The reference 2 is changed to Phys. Lett. from Phys. Rev. Let

Participation Financing as a Solution to the Agency Problem of Perk Consumption in Small Firms

Although it has been suggested that participation financing may allow publicly traded firms to reduce the agency cost of perk consumption, the effect of this type of financing in small firms needs more discussion. The objective of the article is to analyze the small firm effects on the effectiveness of the participation financing in dealing with the agency problem of perk consumption. The participation option gives outside investors less protection against the excessive entrepreneur perk consumption when the firm’s default risk is high. By contrast, the option is more effective in firms with rapid growth or high levels of information asymmetry and therefore high monitoring costs

Complete Study of Hadroproduction of a Υ\Upsilon Meson Associated with a Prompt J/ψJ/\psi

We present the first complete study of Υ\Upsilon and prompt J/ψJ/\psi production from single-parton scattering, including the complete O(αS6)\mathcal{O}(\alpha_S^6) color-singlet contribution, the O(αS2α2)\mathcal{O}(\alpha_S^2\alpha^2) electroweak contribution, the complete nonrelativistic S-wave and P-wave color-octet contribution as well as the feeddown contribution. Our study was motivated by the recent evidence reported by D0 Collaboration of prompt J/ψJ/\psi and Υ\Upsilon simultaneous production at the Tevatron. With our complete evaluation, we are able to refine the determination of the double parton scattering contribution made by D0 Collaboration. We find that the effective cross section characterizing the importance of double-parton scatterings is σeff≤8.2\sigma_{\rm eff}\le 8.2 mb at 68%68\% confidence level from the D0 measurement.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, 4 tables; v2: journal version, update the references and fix a few typo
