    Relation of Chaos equation to the Schedule for the evaluation of individual Quality of Life-direct Weighting Method

    The SEIQoL-DW (Schedule for the Evaluation of Individual Quality of Life-Direct Weighting) method may be misused because of lack of confirmation by scientific theory. It is compared with the representative chaos equation. Y (n + 1) = p [1 – Y (n)] Y (n) The Z (m) axis is perpendicular to the "p" and Y (n) axes. Z (m + 1) = p [1 – Z (m)] Z (m) From both equations, a three dimensional logistic map is imagined. [Y (n + 1) / Z (m + 1)] = [1 – Y (n)] Y (n) / [1 – Z (m)] Z (m) According to "p" that changes from 3.0 to 4.0, the numbers of answers in this equation change to 1, 4, 16, localized chaotic state, and proliferated chaotic state.  Cue (area), level and weight of the SEIQoL-DW are compared with each group in the localized chaotic state. The erased "p" is considered as a personal ability. Misuse can be avoided provided that the user understands the relation of chaos theory to the SEIQoL-DW

    Experiment and numerical simulation of the combined effect of winding, cool-down, and screening current induced stresses in REBCO coils

    This paper overviews the combined effects of winding, cool-down, and screening current-induced stresses in REBCO coils. First, a simulation method to model the circumferential stress modification effect due to the screening-current is overviewed. The simulation includes coil winding, cooling down, and coil charge up to the operating current. Second, we will compare the numerical simulation results with the experimental results. The numerical simulations for a dry coil and an epoxy impregnated coil agree well with the experimental results. Third, the enhanced circumferential stress did not degrade the performance of a dry winding REBCO coil, but the improved increased compressive stress buckled the coil structure. Finally, it is demonstrated that epoxy impregnation has beneficial effects in reducing the stress modification effect. However, the circumferential stress is enormously enhanced at the coil ends, sometimes resulting in degradation of the coil performance

    1006-44 A Prognostic Factor in Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): Platelet-Dependent Thrombin Generation in Patients with CAD

    We examined platelet-dependent thrombin generation in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Thrombin generation was measured according to the method of Aronson et al (Circulation, 1992). 0.5ml of platelet rich plasma (PRP, 15×104/ml) was prepared, and 40mM of CaCl, was added to start clotting. 0.5mM of S-2238 was added to each sample in a microtiter plate every 10min, and the plate was read kinetically at a wavelength of 405nm on a microtiter plate reader. The patients with CAD devided into 3 groups.Thrombin generation 20 min after CaCI2, additon is:Control (n=12)48±10(mOD)Stable angina (SAP) (n=15)79±27Unstable angina (UAP) (n=15)**562±155Acute myocardial infarct (AMI) (n=43)**440±269**p<0.01 compared to SAPThe patients with UAP and AMI showed marked increase in thrombin generation compared to SAP and control subjects. AMI patients with severe coronary artery disease (Group B) showed higher levels of thrombin generation (Group A, Gensini score<32: 382±248 mOD vs Group B, Gensini score> 31: 578±238, P<0.05). LVEF of group A is significantly higher than that of group B (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that patients with UAP and AMI have an evidence of hypercoagulable states and that platelet-dependent thrombin generation may play an important role in pathophysiology of UAP or AMI, and may be a prognostic factor in CAD

    Tunneling and rattling in clathrate crystal

    We present tunneling and rattling motions of an off-center guest atom in cage referring to a clathrate crystal La_3Pd_{20}Ge_6. The elastic constant C_{44} of La_3Pd_{20}Ge_6 shows a Debye-type dispersion around 20 K obeying a relaxation time tau = tau_0exp(E/k_{B}T) with an attempt time tau_0 = 2.0*10^{-12} sec and an activation energy E = 197 K. At low temperatures below 3 K down to 20 mK, the C_{44} shows a softening of C_{44} = C_{44}^0(T-T_C^0)/(T-Theta) with T_C^0 = -337.970 mK and Theta = -338.044 mK. These facts are attributed to two different types of the off-center motions with Gamma_5 symmetry in 4a-site cage of La_3Pd_{20}Ge_6, a thermally activated rattling motion over the potential hill and a tunneling motion through the potential hill at low temperatures.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to be published Phys.     Fabrication of 16-main-core RE123 split wire using inner split method

    For application to ultrahigh-field nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (e.g., 30 T), we have started to develop a REBa2Cu3O7-δ (RE123, RE: rare earth) multi-core coated conductor in which the ceramic layers (RE123 and buffer layers) are electrically separated to create multiple filaments. This method is called electrical separation by inner splitting, and the wire is called a split wire. The multi-core structure is fabricated using electrical separation by a phase stress, which utilizes the difference in toughness between ceramics and metal, such as partial V-bending by stress along the longitudinal direction of the coated conductor using a commercially available single-core RE123 coated conductor. In addition, about 10 narrow cores (width: 5-15 μm) can be formed by one bending. These cores are called subcores. The wire is composed of main cores and subcores. In this study, a 4 mm wide multifilamentary RE123 split wire with 16 main cores and 150 subcores was fabricated and evaluated.     Pressure-Wire-Guided Percutaneous Transluminal Pulmonary Angioplasty A Breakthrough in Catheter-Interventional Therapy for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension

    AbstractObjectivesThis study sought to prove the safety and effectiveness of pressure-wire-guided percutaneous transluminal pulmonary angioplasty (PTPA).BackgroundPTPA has been demonstrated to be effective for treatment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. However, a major and occasionally fatal complication after PTPA is reperfusion pulmonary edema. To avoid this, we developed the PEPSI (Pulmonary Edema Predictive Scoring Index). The pressure wire has been used to detect insufficiency of flow in a vessel.MethodsWe included 350 consecutive PTPA sessions in 103 patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2013. During these 5 years, 140 PTPA sessions were performed without guidance, 65 with guidance of PEPSI alone, and 145 with both PEPSI and pressure-wire guidance. Each PTPA session was finished after achieving PEPSI scores of <35.4 with PEPSI guidance and each target lesion achieving distal mean pulmonary arterial pressure <35 mm Hg with pressure-wire guidance.ResultsThe occurrence of clinically critical reperfusion pulmonary edema and vessel injuries were lowest in the group using the guidance of both pressure wire and PEPSI (0% and 6.9%, respectively). Furthermore, the group guided by pressure wire and PEPSI accomplished the same hemodynamic improvements with fewer numbers of target lesions treated and sessions performed.ConclusionsThe combined approach using pressure wire and PEPSI produced more efficient clinical results and greatly reduced reperfusion pulmonary edema and vessel complications. This is further evidence that PTPA is an alternative strategy for treating chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension

    Optical and Near-Infrared Photometry of Nova V2362 Cyg : Rebrightening Event and Dust Formation

    We present optical and near-infrared (NIR) photometry of a classical nova, V2362 Cyg (= Nova Cygni 2006). V2362 Cyg experienced a peculiar rebrightening with a long duration from 100 to 240 d after the maximum of the nova. Our multicolor observation indicates an emergence of a pseudophotosphere with an effective temperature of 9000 K at the rebrightening maximum. After the rebrightening maximum, the object showed a slow fading homogeneously in all of the used bands for one week. This implies that the fading just after the rebrightening maximum ( less or equal 1 week ) was caused by a slowly shrinking pseudophotosphere. Then, the NIR flux drastically increased, while the optical flux steeply declined. The optical and NIR flux was consistent with blackbody radiation with a temperature of 1500 K during this NIR rising phase. These facts are likely to be explained by dust formation in the nova ejecta. Assuming an optically thin case, we estimate the dust mass of 10^(-8) -- 10^(-10) M_solar, which is less than those in typical dust-forming novae. These results support the senario that a second, long-lasting outflow, which caused the rebrightening, interacted with a fraction of the initial outflow and formed dust grains.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 2010, PASJ, 62, 1103--1108, in pres

    The 2006 November outburst of EG Aquarii: the SU UMa nature revealed

    We report time-resolved CCD photometry of the cataclysmic variable EG Aquarii during the 2006 November outburst During the outburst, superhumps were unambiguously detected with a mean period of 0.078828(6) days, firstly classifying the object as an SU UMa-type dwarf nova. It also turned out that the outburst contained a precursor. At the end of the precursor, immature profiles of humps were observed. By a phase analysis of these humps, we interpreted the features as superhumps. This is the second example that the superhumps were shown during a precursor. Near the maximum stage of the outburst, we discovered an abrupt shift of the superhump period by {\sim} 0.002 days. After the supermaximum, the superhump period decreased at the rate of P˙/P\dot{P}/P=8.2×105-8.2{\times}10^{-5}, which is typical for SU UMa-type dwarf novae. Although the outburst light curve was characteristic of SU UMa-type dwarf novae, long-term monitoring of the variable shows no outbursts over the past decade.
