On the gravitomagnetic effects in cylindrically symmetric spacetimes
Using gyroscopes we generalize results, obtained for the gravitomagnetic
clock effect in the particular case when the exterior spacetime is produced by
a rotating dust cylinder, to the case when the vacuum spacetime is described by
the general cylindrically symmetric Lewis spacetime. Results are contrasted

Recovery of normal heat conduction in harmonic chains with correlated disorder
We consider heat transport in one-dimensional harmonic chains with isotopic
disorder, focussing our attention mainly on how disorder correlations affect
heat conduction. Our approach reveals that long-range correlations can change
the number of low-frequency extended states. As a result, with a proper choice
of correlations one can control how the conductivity scales with the
chain length . We present a detailed analysis of the role of specific
long-range correlations for which a size-independent conductivity is exactly
recovered in the case of fixed boundary conditions. As for free boundary
conditions, we show that disorder correlations can lead to a conductivity
scaling as , with the scaling exponent
being arbitrarily small (although not strictly zero), so that
normal conduction is almost recovered even in this case.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure
Why does gravitational radiation produce vorticity?
We calculate the vorticity of world--lines of observers at rest in a
Bondi--Sachs frame, produced by gravitational radiation, in a general Sachs
metric. We claim that such an effect is related to the super--Poynting vector,
in a similar way as the existence of the electromagnetic Poynting vector is

Thermodynamics of noncommutative quantum Kerr black holes
Thermodynamic formalism for rotating black holes, characterized by
noncommutative and quantum corrections, is constructed. From a fundamental
thermodynamic relation, equations of state and thermodynamic response functions
are explicitly given and the effect of noncommutativity and quantum correction
is discussed. It is shown that the well known divergence exhibited in specific
heat is not removed by any of these corrections. However, regions of
thermodynamic stability are affected by noncommutativity, increasing the
available states for which some thermodynamic stability conditions are

Measuring multipole moments of Weyl metrics by means of gyroscopes
Using the technique of Rindler and Perlick we calculate the total precession
per revolution of a gyroscope circumventing the source of Weyl metrics. We
establish thereby a link between the multipole moments of the source and an
``observable'' quantity. Special attention deserves the case of the
gamma-metric. As an extension of this result we also present the corresponding

Physics for non-physicists - Two bio-degrees reforms in Spanish universities: Health Biology and Biology
We present a review of two different innovative experiences of Physics education for Bio-Sciences in two Spanish Universities - the Health Biology degree of the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (UAH) and the Biology degree of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). Both experiences took place simultaneously and coincident with the implementation of Bologna Plan. Although they were developed under different contextual constraints, set by the respective Faculties, they share a number of similar pedagogical strategies which are analyzed. In both cases the reforms allowed a substantial improvement in learning results compared to those obtained in the previous Physics courses in the respective degreesLHM participated in the GIREP-MPTL 2018 on behalf of the project IPLS-Spain, promoted and supported by an inter-university group of physics teachers and young biologist
