EXPLORING THE NEED OF SOFT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT IN ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION SETTINGS SERVING YOUTH-AT-RISK
Today’s young 21st century workforce has so much to offer in an array of industry sectors. Yet, so many are not achieving their full potential with underdeveloped or lack of soft skills. Vulnerable youth-at-risk who have not experienced healthy developmental stages growing up are at a higher risk of not developing soft skills essential for workforce and lifelong success. This study aims to analyze the gap in soft skills development in youth-at-risk who are attending alternative education. Using a Constructivist paradigm, this qualitative research was completed using maximum variation and snowball sampling to capture the full experience and the individual perspectives of key stakeholders who have/had direct contact with youth-at-risk. Faculty, staff, and a local workforce development agency participated in a joint construct via face-to-face interviews and a member-checking meeting to analyze the effects of the soft skills gap. All participants were over the age of 18 and reside within a selected Southern California county. This research aimed to contribute to the field of social work in both macro and micro practice as it relates to the enhancement of curriculum and enrichment of the learning environment that alternative education students currently have. Through this contribution, it is the hope of the researcher that youth-at-risk will develop or enhance their social and emotional skills so that they are better prepared to go into the workforce and post-secondary education thus achieving self-sufficiency and lifelong success
Aspects of the pseudo Chiral Magnetic Effect in 2D Weyl-Dirac Matter
A connection is established between the continuum limit of the low-energy
tight-binding description of graphene immersed in an in-plane magnetic field
and the Chiral Magnetic Effect in Quantum Chromodynamics. A combination of mass
gaps that explicitly breaks the equivalence of the Dirac cones, favoring an
imbalance of pseudo-chiralities, is the essential ingredient to generate a
non-dissipative electric current along the external field. Currents, number
densities and condensates generated from this setup are investigated for
different hierarchies of the energy scales involved.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures. Several text improvements. Accepted for

Hand Issues on Scleroderma Patients
Based on the design of a 3D-printed spoon prototype, we surveyed scleroderma patients about the device\u27s value. 75% of patients mentioned having problems on their hands due to scleroderma. 85% of patients said their hand form changed because of the disease. Answers to the frequency or speed of the changes provide inconclusive results. The 3D printing technology has the potential to solve specific issues scleroderma patients face in their daily lives. Nevertheless, further research is needed to fully understand how hands shape change over time
Deconstruction versus Liberation: New Historical Accounts in Spaces of Mexico, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Argentina
On the occasion of two research in Popular Education in different fields and from two university institutions such as the Autonomous University of Madrid and the National University of Entre R os deconstructive processes of liberation in Latin American spaces are known At the same time the link to a research group in Health Inclusions Equity and Pedagogy allows a complementarity towards meanings and socio-historical stories In a timeline between 2003 and 2014 formative experiences with liberating projections are identified These experiences take stories from spaces in countries such as Mexico Costa Rica Uruguay and Argentina The main objectives are focused on the identification of the pedagogical processes from the documentary testimonies of the experiences The analyzes have dimensions of gender perspective technological appropriation and ways of doing things The dominant official story is dismantled from its denaturalization new stories arise typical of the context-pedagogical process relationship and historical analysi
Blockade of TIGIT-PVR Axis can Treat Breast Cancer
This review covers the identification and application of anti-TIGIT antibodies as checkpoint inhibitors for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancers. The original article, Targeting the TIGIT-PVR Immune Checkpoint Axis as Novel Therapeutic Option in Breast Cancer, was published by Stamm et al. in Oncoimmunology in October of 2019

Becoming undocumented and unafraid : impacts of “illegality” on identity formation and university student activism
This study explores the ways in which the construction of illegality impacts the identity formation of undocumented organizers, as well as how this identity and broader understanding of social oppression leads to university student activism. This thesis documents the process by which this occurs, which is complex, painful at times, and beautiful. Through an analysis of 15 qualitative interviews with undocumented student organizers and field notes of meetings, hearings at the state capitol, and protests, this study uses activist research methods that serve a practical purpose for the social movement and contribute meaningfully to the academic knowledge base. Each participant, through their examples of interactions with systems, discussed the ways in which their skin color, perceived race, and legal status combined in oppressive or discriminatory experiences. Whether interaction with law enforcement, medical systems, or educational institutions, these students articulated the ways in which their identities impacted their perception in society, and thus their own identity formation. Participants also discussed the process that led them toward activism. This thesis explores the ways in which undocumented status is not necessarily noticeable on the outside, which contributed to students’ feelings of isolation or of thinking they were the only undocumented students in high school or college. Interviewees emphasized their start as organizers as being part of a call to action rooted in their experiences of finding a community to belong to. Participants also discussed allies’ contributions to the movement, burnout and emotional stress related to organizing efforts, and the complexities of the phrase “undocumented and unafraid.” Taken as a whole, this thesis details the formation of these individuals’ identities over the course of their lives. Overall this research provides further evidence of the potential for advancing rights for those who fall outside the arbitrary bounds of illegality and further demonstrates the power of young people in this movement.Latin American StudiesSocial Wor
Cross-coupled doa trackers
A new robust, low complexity algorithm for multiuser tracking is proposed, modifying the two-stage parallel architecture of the estimate-maximize (EM) algorithm. The algorithm copes with spatially colored noise, large differences in source powers, multipath, and crossing trajectories. Following a discussion on stability, the simulations demonstrate an asymptotic and tracking behavior that neither the EM nor a nonparallelized tracker can emulate.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Rheological behaviour of fruit and milk-based smoothies
Two of the most important food attributes for today´s fast-moving lifestyle are convenience and healthiness [1-2]. Fast-moving lifestyle specifically affects to elderly people, who are prone to bad-nutrition due to their dental status reducing the consumption of fruits and vegetables [3].
Smoothies are blended beverages, and good examples of convenient and healthy foods for helping to reduce this problem. So, they are gaining increasing market leverage in the beverage sector.
Texture and rheological behaviour of foods can determine their acceptability. Therefore, added to nutritious features, smoothies must also account with outstanding mechanical properties. Stability of the products is also a main quality, which can be gained adding a small amount of stabiliser to beverage formulations. But, to avoid opposite effects, stabilisers addition should ameliorate the product texture.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional AndalucĂa Tech
@the_new_house: An Online-Offline Manifesto
The house, as one of the most fundamental architectural archetypes, has long been used as unbuilt or built manifestos to declare the avant-garde of the discipline. Formally they are likely to offer the most intimate scale at which to work and symbolically they have always maintained a potent force, both as vivid representation of lives lived inside their walls and as a powerful influence over the changing course of architecture over the centuries (Rapoport). Iconic houses have become part of an essential language and shorthand of architecture itself.
Follow me as I investigate a return to the design of a house as a manifesto for today’s online-offline generation. The house of today for tomorrow will strive to represent our virtual “curated” lives in our physical reality, questioning the very precepts of what a house should be and do.
As designers, we need to re-visualize design concepts to create architecture that integrates and corresponds to the way we dwell. Innovating design in the same way technology and digitalization have been innovating production and the way we live. This thesis investigates a return to the design of a house as a manifesto, focusing on today’s advanced modes of fabrication and evolving ways of living to challenge the current design mindset
