Measuring multipole moments of Weyl metrics by means of gyroscopes

    Get PDF
Using the technique of Rindler and Perlick we calculate the total precession per revolution of a gyroscope circumventing the source of Weyl metrics. We establish thereby a link between the multipole moments of the source and an ``observable'' quantity. Special attention deserves the case of the gamma-metric. As an extension of this result we also present the corresponding expressions for some stationary space-times.Comment: 18 pages Latex, To appear in J.Math.Phy

Generalised Fractional Evolution Equations of Caputo Type

    Get PDF
This paper is devoted to the study of generalised time-fractional evolution equations involving Caputo type derivatives. Using analytical methods and probabilistic arguments we obtain well-posedness results and stochastic representations for the solutions. These results encompass known linear and non-linear equations from classical fractional partial differential equations such as the time-space-fractional diffusion equation, as well as their far reaching extensions. \\ Meaning is given to a probabilistic generalisation of Mittag-Leffler functions.Comment: To be published in 'Chaos, Solitons & Fractals

Finite-size scaling for the left-current correlator with non-degenerate quark masses

    Get PDF
We study the volume dependence of the left-current correlator with non-degenerate quark masses to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. We consider three possible regimes: all quark masses are in the ϵ\epsilon-regime, all are in the pp-regime and a mixed-regime where the lighest quark masses satisfy mvΣV≤1m_v \Sigma V \leq 1 while the heavier msΣV≫1m_s \Sigma V \gg 1. These results can be used to match lattice QCD and the Chiral Effective Theory in a large but finite box in which the Compton wavelength of the lightest pions is of the order of the box size. We consider both the full and partially-quenched results.Comment: 27 pages, 4 figure

    A source of a quasi--spherical space--time: The case for the M--Q solution

We present a physically reasonable source for an static, axially--symmetric solution to the Einstein equations. Arguments are provided, supporting our belief that the exterior space--time produced by such source, describing a quadrupole correction to the Schwarzschild metric, is particularly suitable (among known solutions of the Weyl family) for discussing the properties of quasi--spherical gravitational fields.Comment: 34 pages, 9 figures. Chiral asymmetry during the EWPT from CP-violating scattering off bubble walls

We compute a net electric current during a first order EWPT arising from the asymmetric propagation of fermion chiral modes due to a CP-violating interaction with the Higgs. The interaction is quantified in terms of a CP-violating phase in the bubble wall that separate both false and true vacuum phases. We comment on the possibility of this current to generate a seed magnetic field and its implications for primordial magne- togenesis in the early Universe.Comment: To appear in the proceedings of the XLVII of the International Symposium of Multiparticle Dynamics, Tlaxcala, Mexico, September 10-15, 201

Disjointly homogeneous Banach lattices and applications

This is a survey on disjointly homogeneous Banach lattices and their applicactions. Several structural properties of this class are analyzed. In addition we show how these spaces provide a natural framework for studying the compactness of powers of operators allowing for a unified treatment of well-known results.Comment: 20 pages, to appear in Proceedings Positivity VII Conference (2013
