Nowadays, the relation between a psychotherapy trainee's personality and his own style are not completely clear. Taking this into account, this study focuses on the therapeutic alliance and how it is influenced based on personality traits and a therapist’s personal style.
With this then, a study was conducted in a university clinic using 16 psychotherapy trainees and 48 patients. They responded to a series of questionnaires to rate the therapeutic alliance. The results showed that certain components of the therapist’s personal style are linked to the alliance reports. In the same way, it was proven that the therapist’s personal style is predicted by certain personality traits.
Predictors of attitudes toward lesbian and gay parenting in an ecuadorian sample.
In the past few years, Ecuador has experienced legal changes toward the
recognition of sexual minority rights. However, lesbian and gay (LG) individuals
and couples still face legal obstacles to become parents and social
barriers that place their families in disadvantage compared to their heterosexual
counterparts. To date, it is not known whether the legal changes
reflect society’s move toward a more progressive and accepting climate.
This study analyzed the attitudes toward LG parenting in an Ecuadorian
online-recruited sample. Three hundred thirty-eight (338) participants
answered an online questionnaire about the negative effects and the benefits
of having LG parents. The strongest belief among participants was
that children of LG parents would be victimized because of their parents’
sexual orientation. Analyses indicated differences in attitudes based on
age, sexual orientation, marital status, education level, as well as religiosity.
Finally, regression models suggested that beliefs about the origins of sexual
orientation and contact with LG people predicted attitude scores.
Implications of these findings are discussed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
“This is not what God intended”: Attitudes toward adoption by same-sex couples in Ecuador
Introduction: In Ecuador, adoption is limited to heterosexual couples and information on attitudes toward same-sex couples who intend to become parents following this pathway is scarce. This study aimed to identify the beliefs of a sample of 319 cisgender people in Ecuador regarding the adoption of children by same-sex couples and explore the reasons why they consider it is appropriate or not for lesbian and gay (LG) couples to adopt children. Methods: Between May and October 2019, participants responded quantitative and qualitative questions after reading a vignette about a couple interested in adopting a child. Participants were randomly presented with one out of three versions of the vignette based on the couples’ sexual orientation (L,G, heterosexual). Descriptive, correlational statistics and analysis of variance were used to conduct quantitative analyses. Qualitative responses were analyzed using thematic and content analysis. Results: Results indicate favorability toward adoption by all couples in general. However, people showed the highest concerns about adoption by LG couples. Qualitative answers indicate the existence of nine types of arguments used by participants to explain their position in favor or against adoption by same-sex couples. Conclusion: Some are problematic since they are rooted in prejudiced ideas about heterosexual people’s superiority regarding their capacities to create emotionally nurturing environments. Policy Implications: Providing information regarding LG parenting might be a way of achieving legislative changes that might, in turn, promote social change by providing a legal platform for same-sex couples to achieve parenthood. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
-- Tomado del Formato de Documento de Grado"Recent events in Colombia reveal the importance of having local evidence about the experiences of lesbian and gay parents and their children within schools. Due to its implications for the development of children and the lack of studies on the experiences of gay and lesbian parent families during the preschool years, this mixed methods study had two objectives: 1) to characterize the experiences of gay and lesbian parents during their children?s transition to preschool and 2) to describe the series of beliefs, attitudes, perceptions and practices of preschool teachers regarding work with these families."
Less than 30% of the population in Colombia agrees with same-sex couples adopting children. In view of this climate of rejection, it is important to answer questions regarding gay and lesbian families’ experiences with systems such as schools. Due to preschool years’ importance in the development of children, this study aimed to describe the attitudes, perceptions and practices of 53 preschool teachers in Bogotá towards working with gay and lesbian parent families. Analysis revealed attitudes characterized by concerns regarding the potential victimization children might receive given their family structure. Likewise, it was found that, although teachers may feel confident, they inform rarely using affirmative practices to create safe and inclusive schools for families. These results highlight the importance of further working with teachers to create inclusive and affirming environments towards gay/lesbian parents and their children from the very first years of compulsory education.

Comfort with LGB people and attitudes toward same-sex parenting in Continental American Hispanic Nations
Abstract Negative attitudes toward Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual (LGB) individuals leads to a perceived inability of LGB individuals to foster ‘appropriate’ family relationships, inciting negative attitudes specifically toward same-sex parenting. Intergroup and interpersonal relationships play a critical role in fostering attitudes toward others wherein type of contact, frequency, degree of closeness in the relationship, and the positivity/negativity of interactions are potential mediator of these relations, Moreover, the mechanism behind co-constructing positive relationships with sexual and gender minorities is comfort with contact with LGB individuals. The present study explored the effects of interpersonal contact and the mediator role of comfort with LGB people in explaining attitudes toward same-sex parenting in Spanish-speaking countries in North, Central, and South America. These countries are of particular interest given the dearth of research in the region on attitudes toward same-sex parenting as well as the varying degrees of acceptance of and protections for same-sex parented families. A non-probabilistic sample of 1955 heterosexual cisgender participants from 14 countries was asked to complete a series of sociodemographic questions, a questionnaire about their interpersonal contact/comfort experiences with LGB people, and the Attitudes Toward Gay and Lesbian Parenting Scale. Results showed that comfort was vital in fostering accepting attitudes toward Same-Sex Parenting across countries. Findings also suggested that comfort with LGB people has a particularly powerful influence in regions with less legal and cultural acceptance of LGB individuals. Policies are not enough to instill widespread change: we must encourage, facilitate, and supervise the formation of relationships with LGB people
Attitudes toward Lesbians, Gay Men, and their rights in a sample of ecuadorian cisgender men and women
Since 1997, Ecuador has undergone a series of changes to ensure family rights to sexual minorities. However, there is still limited research regarding attitudes toward them. This study focused on the attitudes toward lesbians (L), gay men (G), and their rights. A sample of 318 cisgender Ecuadorians who responded to an online survey was recruited. Analyses indicated that men, heterosexuals, who practice their religion, attend more frequently to religious services, and identify as conservative showed higher levels of prejudice against LG as well as less support toward their rights. Further, participants who did not have LG acquaintances, friends, family members, and those who did not know any LG parented family showed less support toward these populations. Multiple regression analyses indicated that believing that a person’s sexual orientation is learned significantly predicted the attitudes measured in our study. Implications of these findings to help reduce prejudice against LG individuals are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
