[Review of] Ramsay Burt. Alien Bodies: Representations of Modernity, Race, and Nation in Early Modern Dance
In Alien Bodies, Burt uses interdisciplinary methods to consider the issues of modernity and modernism in relation to the work of several makers of early modern dance. In nine chapters, he carefully examines the social constructions of nation, race, class, and gender as they were inscribed upon the dancing body. The Atlantic is the space and the period between the two great wars the time of this book\u27s focus

The role of the enzyme in the succinate-enzyme-fumarate equilibrium
The following is an account of an investigation into the role of the enzyme in the succinate-enzyme-fumarate equilibrium. The method consisted in the comparison of the value of the free energy change in this reaction obtained from oxidation-reduction potentials, with that calculated from the entropies and other physicochemical properties of succinic acid and fumaric acid
A new species of Lomanoxia Martínez from Costa Rica (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae)
A new species of Lomanoxia Martínez is described from Costa Rica: L. canthonopsis Skelley and Howden. This represents the first member of the genus reported from Central America. The status of the tribe Lomanoxini Stebnicka is evaluated and is here synonymized under Eupariini LePeletier and Serville
Detection of Low Tension Cosmic Superstrings
Cosmic superstrings of string theory differ from conventional cosmic strings
of field theory. We review how the physical and cosmological properties of the
macroscopic string loops influence experimental searches for these relics from
the epoch of inflation. The universe's average density of cosmic superstrings
can easily exceed that of conventional cosmic strings having the same tension
by two or more orders of magnitude. The cosmological behavior of the remnant
superstring loops is qualitatively distinct because the string tension is
exponentially smaller than the string scale in flux compactifications in string
theory. Low tension superstring loops live longer, experience less recoil
(rocket effect from the emission of gravitational radiation) and tend to
cluster like dark matter in galaxies. Clustering enhances the string loop
density with respect to the cosmological average in collapsed structures in the
universe. The enhancement at the Sun's position is . We develop a
model encapsulating the leading order string theory effects, the current
understanding of the string network loop production and the influence of
cosmological structure formation suitable for forecasting the detection of
superstring loops via optical microlensing, gravitational wave bursts and fast
radio bursts. We evaluate the detection rate of bursts from cusps and kinks by
LIGO- and LISA-like experiments. Clustering dominates rates for (LIGO cusp), (LISA cusp),
(LISA kink); we forecast experimentally accessible gravitational wave bursts
for (LIGO cusp), (LISA cusp) and (LISA kink).Comment: 81 pages, 15 figures; refs. adde
Systems and methods for determining radio frequency interference
The presence, frequency and amplitude of radio frequency interference superimposed on communication links originating from a terrestrial region and including a relay in a geostationary spacecraft are determined by pointing a narrow beam antenna on the satellite at the terrestrial region. The level of noise radiated from the region to the antenna is measured at a terrestrial station that is usually remote from the region. Calibrating radio signals having a plurality of predetermined EIRP's (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power) and frequencies in the spectrum are transmitted from the region through the spacecraft narrow beam antenna back to the station. At the station, the levels of the received calibrating signals are separately measured for each of the frequency bands and EIRP's
Model-Independent Bounds on
We present a model-independent bound on . This bound is constructed by constraining the form
factors through a combination of dispersive relations, heavy-quark relations at
zero-recoil, and the limited existing determinations from lattice QCD. The
resulting 95\% confidence-level bound, , agrees
with the recent LHCb result at , and rules out some previously
suggested model form factors.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures, JHEP format, revised to match published versio
Percentage Leases and the Advantages of Regional Malls
The differences in the ownership structures of downtown retail districts and shopping centers may give rise to varying space allocations and rental contracts found in these markets. This article specifically examines the value-enhancing aspects of percentage leases and explores the mechanisms of tenant mix, risk sharing and rent discrimination through which this value is created. The use of percentage leases may lead to superior returns by allowing a rent structure that approaches perfect price discrimination. Risk sharing through the use of percentage leases may also create value for the property owner and lead to lower rents for tenants.
Bayesian Model Averaging for Model Implied Instrumental Variable Two Stage Least Squares Estimators
Model-Implied Instrumental Variable Two-Stage Least Squares (MIIV-2SLS) is a
limited information, equation-by-equation, non-iterative estimator for latent
variable models. Associated with this estimator are equation specific tests of
model misspecification. We propose an extension to the existing MIIV-2SLS
estimator that utilizes Bayesian model averaging which we term Model-Implied
Instrumental Variable Two-Stage Bayesian Model Averaging (MIIV-2SBMA).
MIIV-2SBMA accounts for uncertainty in optimal instrument set selection, and
provides powerful instrument specific tests of model misspecification and
instrument strength. We evaluate the performance of MIIV-2SBMA against
MIIV-2SLS in a simulation study and show that it has comparable performance in
terms of parameter estimation. Additionally, our instrument specific
overidentification tests developed within the MIIV-2SBMA framework show
increased power to detect model misspecification over the traditional equation
level tests of model misspecification. Finally, we demonstrate the use of
MIIV-2SBMA using an empirical example.Comment: 31 pages, 8 figures, supplementary materials available upon reques
