    Kinetics of the long-range spherical model

    The kinetic spherical model with long-range interactions is studied after a quench to T<TcT < T_c or to T=TcT = T_c. For the two-time response and correlation functions of the order-parameter as well as for composite fields such as the energy density, the ageing exponents and the corresponding scaling functions are derived.     Non-local scaling operators with entanglement renormalization

    The multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA) can be used, in its scale invariant version, to describe the ground state of a lattice system at a quantum critical point. From the scale invariant MERA one can determine the local scaling operators of the model. Here we show that, in the presence of a global symmetry G\mathcal{G}, it is also possible to determine a class of non-local scaling operators. Each operator consist, for a given group element g∈Gg\in\mathcal{G}, of a semi-infinite string \tGamma_g with a local operator ϕ\phi attached to its open end. In the case of the quantum Ising model, G=Z2\mathcal{G}= \mathbb{Z}_2, they correspond to the disorder operator μ\mu, the fermionic operators ψ\psi and ψˉ\bar{\psi}, and all their descendants. Together with the local scaling operators identity I\mathbb{I}, spin σ\sigma and energy ϵ\epsilon, the fermionic and disorder scaling operators ψ\psi, ψˉ\bar{\psi} and μ\mu are the complete list of primary fields of the Ising CFT.     The Relationship Between Transformational Leadership Styles and University Adjunct Faculty Work Engagement

    Adjunct faculty bring on-the-job experience and reality to the classroom. The problems associated with using adjuncts include lack of teaching experience, and not being fully engaged with the students. The purpose of this quantitative correlation study was to determine whether relationships exist among adjunct faculty work engagement and their perceptions of the transformational leadership styles of the campus academic director. Study participants were asked to respond to two validated and reliable survey instruments: the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5X) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-17). Results revealed that all five transformational leadership styles of university campus academic directors showed a moderate to strong relationship to adjunct faculty work engagement (p\u3c.001); Pearson’s r ranged from .35 to .43

    A Field Study: Managers’ Work Behavioral Styles

    Over the years, personality assessment tests have allowed employers and managers to discover the personal types regarding strengths and weaknesses of their employees and themselves. This includes how they process and organize information, make decisions, and interact with team members and other stakeholders (PMBOK, 2017). The present research study explored the applicable work behavioral styles of experienced managers attending an advanced leadership educational program. Seven hundred and fifty-three experienced managers agreed to reveal their results, and descriptive statistics were conducted to determine their behavioral work styles. The results may provide a better understanding of managers’ behavioral work styles, which characterize them when leading team members and other stakeholders. Additionally, the findings may have implications for teaching manager work behavioral styles in a variety of settings to include educational leadership programs

    On the predictive power of Local Scale Invariance

    Local Scale Invariance (LSI) is a theory for anisotropic critical phenomena designed in the spirit of conformal invariance. For a given representation of its generators it makes non-trivial predictions about the form of universal scaling functions. In the past decade several representations have been identified and the corresponding predictions were confirmed for various anisotropic critical systems. Such tests are usually based on a comparison of two-point quantities such as autocorrelation and response functions. The present work highlights a potential problem of the theory in the sense that it may predict any type of two-point function. More specifically, it is argued that for a given two-point correlator it is possible to construct a representation of the generators which exactly reproduces this particular correlator. This observation calls for a critical examination of the predictive content of the theory.Comment: 17 pages, 2 eps figure

    On the universality of luminosity-metallicity and mass-metallicity relations for compact star-forming galaxies at redshifts 0 < z < 3

    We study relations between global characteristics of low-redshift (0 < z < 1) compact star-forming galaxies, including absolute optical magnitudes, Hbeta emission-line luminosities (or equivalently star-formation rates), stellar masses, and oxygen abundances. The sample consists of 5182 galaxies with high-excitation HII regions selected from the SDSS DR7 and SDSS/BOSS DR10 surveys adopting a criterion [OIII]4959/Hbeta > 1. These data were combined with the corresponding data for high-redshift (2 < z < 3) star-forming galaxies. We find that in all diagrams low-z and high-z star-forming galaxies are closely related indicating a very weak dependence of metallicity on stellar mass, redshift, and star-formation rate. This finding argues in favour of the universal character of the global relations for compact star-forming galaxies with high-excitation HII regions over redshifts 0 < z < 3.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA

    Searching for metal-deficient emission-line galaxy candidates: the final sample of the SDSS DR12 galaxies

    We present a spectroscopic study of metal-deficient dwarf galaxy candidates, selected from the SDSS DR12. The oxygen abundances were derived using the direct method in galaxies with the electron temperature-sensitive emission line [OIII]4363A measured with an accuracy better than 30%. The oxygen abundances for the remaining galaxies with larger uncertainties of the [OIII]4363A line fluxes were calculated using a strong-line semi-empirical method by Izotov and Thuan. The resulting sample consists of 287 low-metallicity candidates with oxygen abundances below 12+logO/H=7.65 including 23 extremely metal-deficient (XMD) candidates with 12+log O/H<7.35. Ten out of sixteen XMDs known so far (or ~60%) have been discovered by our team using the direct method. Three XMDs were found in the present study. We study relations between global parameters of low-metallicity galaxies, including absolute optical magnitudes, Hbeta luminosities (or equivalently star formation rates), stellar masses, mid-infrared colours, and oxygen abundances. Low-metallicity and XMD galaxies strongly deviate to lower metallicities in L-Z, L(Hbeta)-Z and Mstar-Z diagrams than in relations obtained for large samples of low-redshift, star-forming galaxies with non-restricted metallicities. These less chemically evolved galaxies with stellar masses ~10^6-10^8Msun, Hbeta luminosities ~10^38-10^41 erg/s, SFR~0.01-1.0Msun/yr, and sSFR~50 Gyr^-1 have physical conditions which may be characteristic of high-redshift low-mass star-forming galaxies which are still awaiting discovery.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysic

    Critical behavior of the two dimensional 2A->3A, 4A->0 binary system

    The phase transitions of the recently introduced 2A -> 3A, 4A -> 0 reaction-diffusion model (G.Odor, PRE 69 036112 (2004)) are explored in two dimensions. This model exhibits site occupation restriction and explicit diffusion of isolated particles. A reentrant phase diagram in the diffusion - creation rate space is confirmed in agreement with cluster mean-field and one-dimensional results. For strong diffusion a mean-field transition can be observed at zero branching rate characterized by α=1/3\alpha=1/3 density decay exponent. In contrast with this for weak diffusion the effective 2A ->3A->4A->0 reaction becomes relevant and the mean-field transition of the 2A -> 3A, 2A -> 0 model characterized by α=1/2\alpha=1/2 also appears for non-zero branching rates.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures included, small correction
