Simulation in development of skilled and competent operators
Modelling and Simulation helps industry to get information about how something will behave without actually testing it in real life in real industry scenario which will incur cost. One can compress the time frame, and study the behaviour of a scenario without engaging it. The use of this within engineering is well recognized. It became necessity or need in an industry. It plays various roles, from fulfilling the requirement in front end task up to furnishing the needed areas in back end task. In a petrochemical plant especially in Ethylene crackers, training operators to operate plant safely and consistent is a need. Highernumber in employees 'migration does play a role in a need of training simulator. When an operator with many years of experience left the company, he brings with himself a valuable portion of knowledge and data and training new personnel will incur money and time cost. The training of ethylene plant new operators now need to rely on senior operators experiences from different plant life cycle and will vary with different trainers. Need of simulation that can represent the real world scenario is a mandatory to give a valuable training experience and loss of billions dollars can be avoided
Effect of fiber loading on tensile properties of cocoa pod husk fibers reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane composites
In this study, cocoa (Theobroma cacao) pod husk (CPH) fiber reinforced themoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was prepared by melt blending method using Haake Polydrive R600 internal mixer. The composites were prepared with different fiber loading: 20%, 30% and 40% (by weight), with the optimum processing parameters: 190°C, 11 min, and 40 rpm for temperature, time and speed, respectively. Five samples were cut from the composite sheet. Mean value was taken for each composite according to ASTM standards. Increase of fibre loading showed increase in tensile strength and modulus and decreasing trend of strain
Enyzmed pretreated empty pabn fruit bunch for biofuel production
Lignin peroxidase (LiP) and manganese peroxidase (1.1nP) enzymes were used to pre-treat empty fruit bunch (EPFB) before pyrolysis. Statistical analysis indicated that at 71.6%, LiP demonstrated greater lignin degradation compared to 67.9% J\1nP. Interestingly, the pretreatment sample has resulted in higher bio-oil yield compared to the untreated sample. Both LiP-treated and MnP-treated EPFB yielded approximately 30 wt% of bio-oil compared to 20 wt% of yield for the untreated sample
Growth and reproductive performances of farmed timorensis deer, Cervus timorensis
A retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the growth and reproductive performances of timorensis deer, Cervus timorensis, that were kept in farm. All 140 animals were allowed to graze at all times while supplemented feed of approximately 1 kg/animal/day was provided except during the rainy season between October and December when supplementation was 2 kg/animal/day. Available farm records between 2011 and 2014 were collected and analysed for growth and reproductive performances. Most fawning occurred between October and December (average rainfall 413 mm) with an apparent peak in December. Average annual fawning percentage for the past four years was 57% while the average rate of mortality for fawns and adults was 5.4% and 13.5%, respectively. The average daily weight gain for up to one year of age was 0.042±0.02 kg but after one year it was 0.052±0.01 kg. The average body weight of adult timorensis at 24 months old was 48.5±1.4 and 44.5±0.9 kg for male and female, respectively. Monthly rainfall showed significant (p<0.05) negative correlation with the ADG but showed positive correlation (p<0.05) with fawning. Body weight gain was high during the dry months of May and August (average rainfall 150 mm). There seemed to be a clear breeding season for timorensis deer in this study, which was within the moderate months of March to April (average rainfall 236 mm) when body weight started to increase
Optimization of processing parameters and fiber content of cocoa pod husk fiber-reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane composites by Taguchi method
A composite of cocoa (Theobroma cacao) pod husk (CPH) fiber reinforced themoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was prepared by melt-blending method followed by compression moulding. Specimens were cut from the sheets that were prepared by compression moulding. The criteria of optimization was testing the specimens by tensile test and comparing the ultimate tensile strength. The aim of this study is to optimize processing parameters and fiber loading using Taguchi approach. These four parameters were investigated in three levels each. The L9 orthogonal array was used based on the number of parameters and levels that have been selected. Furthermore ANOVA was used to determine the significance of parameters. The processing parameters chosen for this study were temperature, speed and time of processing and fiber content. The results showed that optimum values were 190°C, 40 rpm, 11min and 30% for processing temperature, processing speed, processing time and fiber content; respectively. Using ANOVA; fiber content showed the highest significance value followed by processing time. Processing temperature and speed showed no significance in the optimization of TPU/CPH
Effects of resynchronization with progesterone and prostaglandin F2• on estrus response and pregnancy rate in beef cattle
This experiment was designed to compare the estrus response and pregnancy rate of cows first synchronized using CIDR with cows that were resynchronized after failing to display estrus. Estrus response and pregnancy rate were also compared between cows resynchronized with either CIDR or prostaglandin F2• (PGF2•). Initially, 140 Brangus cows were synchronized with CIDR. About 30 days after Artificial Insemination (AI), cows were checked for pregnancy using ultrasound and those that remain open were divided into two groups and resynchronized with either CIDR or two injections of PGF2• at 11 days interval. All cows were observed visually for estrus response for a period of 2 h at 12 h interval, starting immediately after CIDR removal or after the second injection of PGF2•. Cows were in estrus when they mounted if at least 3 times during the period of observation. Following removal of CIDR and second injection of PGF2•, cows were inseminated 60 and 70 h later, respectively. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) in estrus response and pregnancy rate between cows initial synchronization and resynchronization with CIDR protocol. Although, statistically not significant there was relatively higher percentage of estrus response (81.6 vs. 70%) and pregnancy rate (30.6 vs. 28.0%) in cows resynchronized with CIDR than cows resynchronized with PGF2•
