Method of maintaining activity of hydrogen-sensing platinum electrode
Three-electrode hydrogen sensor containing a platinum electrode maintained in a highly catalytic state, operates with a minimal response time and maximal sensitivity to the hydrogen gas being sensed. Electronic control and readout circuitry reactivates the working electrode of the sensor to a state of maximal catalytic activity

State-Selective High-Energy Excitation of Nuclei by Resonant Positron Annihilation
In the annihilation of a positron with a bound atomic electron, the virtual
gamma photon created may excite the atomic nucleus. We put forward this effect
as a spectroscopic tool for an energy-selective excitation of nuclear
transitions. This scheme can efficiently populate nuclear levels of arbitrary
multipolarities in the MeV regime, including monopole transitions and giant
resonances. In certain cases, it may have a higher cross sections than the
conventionally used Coulomb excitation
Does Long-Term Macrophyte Management in Lakes Affect Biotic Richness and Diversity?
We hypothesize that the richness and diversity of the biota
in Lake Moraine (42°50’47”N, 75°31’39”W) in New York have
been negatively impacted by 60 years of macrophyte and algae
management to control Eurasian watermilfoil (
Myriophyllum
spicatum
L.) and associated noxious plants. To test this
hypothesis we compare water quality characteristics, richness
and selected indicators of plant diversity, zooplankton, benthic
macroinvertebrates and fish in Lake Moraine with those in
nearby Hatch Lake (42°50’06”N, 75°40’67”W). The latter is
of similar size and would be expected to have similar biota,
but has not been subjected to management. Measurements of
temperature, pH, oxygen, conductivity, Secchi transparency,
calcium, total phosphorus and nitrites + nitrates are comparable.
Taxa richness and the diversity indices applied to the
aquatic macrophytes are similar in both lakes. (PDF has 8 pages.
Code extraction algorithms which unify slicing and concept assignment
One approach to reverse engineering is to partially automate subcomponent extraction, improvement and subsequent recombination. Two previously proposed automated techniques for supporting this activity are slicing and concept assignment. However, neither is directly applicable in isolation; slicing criteria (sets of program variables) are simply too low level in many cases, while concept assignment typically fails to produce executable subcomponents. This paper introduces a unification of slicing and concept assignment which exploits their combined advantages, while overcoming their individual weaknesses. Our 'concept slices' are extracted using high level criteria, while producing executable subprograms. The paper introduces three ways of combining slicing, and concept assignment and algorithms for each. The application of the concept slicing algorithms is illustrated with a case study from a large financial organisation
Status of Ferro Alloy Industry in the Liberalised Economy
I wish you a very good morning and look forward to a very interesting and frank exchange of ideas during the next two days for the benefit of the FERRO ALLOYS INDUSTRY in our country.
I consider it a great honour and privilege that the National Metallurgical Laboratory and Jamshedpur chapter of Indian Institute of Metals have given me
this opportunity to present the Inaugural Address at the National workshop on "The Status of Ferro Alloys Industry in the Liberalised Economy"

The market for dried fruit in the United Kingdom, the Federal Republic of Germany and France (ODNRI Bulletin No. 34)
This study forms part of a series examining the prospects for selected commodities including those of developing countries in major world markets. The immediate objectives of this report are to assess the present and longer term prospects in the United Kingdom, France and West Germany for selected tropical and temperate fruits in their dried form and to provide existing and potential suppliers with information on various aspects of marketing including product forms, their uses and quality, external trade, trade and distribution structure, prices, tariffs and consumption levels. The three countries were selected because of their importance in the trade. The trade statistics used cover the period 1982 to 1987. Initial fieldwork was carried out between 1983 and 1985; further trade views were subsequently obtained for the United Kingdom. The tariff rates quoted in the report apply specifically to products imported into the United Kingdom, but are similar in other EC countries including France and West Germany

Problems and Prospects of carbonaceous reducing agents in ferro alloys production
The paper emphasizes the need for development of special carbon reductants for ferroalloy production. Various physical and chemical properties desired for the carbon-aceous reductants are discussed as compared to their present availability and usage in ferro-alloy production.
Establishment of LTC coke plant based on washed coals and production of formed coke should be considered to meet the requirement of ferro-alloy industry. Washed coal with low phosphorus and ash contents will not only help in producing quality ferro alloys but also contribute to energy conservation measures
