Vortices, Q-balls and Domain Walls on Dielectric M2-branes
We study BPS solitons in N=6 U(N) \times U(N) Chern-Simons-matter theory
deformed by an F-term mass. The F-term mass generically breaks N=6
supersymmetry down to N=2. At vacua, M2-branes are polarized into a fuzzy S^3
forming a spherical M5-brane with topology \mathbf{R}^{1,2} \times S^3. The
polarization is interpreted as Myers' dielectric effect caused by an
anti-self-dual 4-form flux T_4 in the eleven-dimensional supergravity. Assuming
a polarized M2-brane configuration, the model effectively reduces to the
well-known abelian Chern-Simons-Higgs model studied in detail by
Jackiw-Lee-Weinberg. We find that the potential for the fuzzy S^3 radius agrees
with the one calculated from the M5-brane point of view at large N. This
effective model admits not only BPS topological vortex and domain wall
solutions but also non-topological solitons that keep 1/4 of the manifest N=2
supersymmetry. We also comment on the reduction of our configuration to ten
dimensions.Comment: references added, minor modification

The geometry of the limit of N=2 minimal models
We consider the limit of two-dimensional N=(2,2) superconformal minimal
models when the central charge approaches c=3. Starting from a geometric
description as non-linear sigma models, we show that one can obtain two
different limit theories. One is the free theory of two bosons and two
fermions, the other one is a continuous orbifold thereof. We substantiate this
claim by detailed conformal field theory computations.Comment: 35 pages, 3 figures; v2 minor corrections, version to be published in

On Nietzsche’s Concept of ‘European Nihilism’
<div><p>Aplog-1 is a simplified analog of the tumor-promoting aplysiatoxin with anti-proliferative and cytotoxic activities against several cancer cell lines. Our recent findings have suggested that protein kinase Cδ (PKCδ) could be one of the target proteins of aplog-1. In this study, we synthesized amide-aplog-1 (<b>3</b>), in which the C-1 ester group was replaced with an amide group, to improve chemical stability <i>in vivo</i>. Unfortunately, <b>3</b> exhibited seventy-fold weaker binding affinity to the C1B domain of PKCδ than that of aplog-1, and negligible anti-proliferative and cytotoxic activities even at 10−4 M. A conformational analysis and density functional theory calculations indicated that the stable conformation of <b>3</b> differed from that of aplog-1. Since 27-methyl and 27-methoxy derivatives (<b>1</b>, <b>2</b>) without the ability to bind to PKC isozymes exhibited marked anti-proliferative and cytotoxic activities at 10−4 M, <b>3</b> may be an inactive control to identify the target proteins of aplogs.</p></div
Notes on Supersymmetry Enhancement of ABJM Theory
We study the supersymmetry enhancement of ABJM theory. Starting from a supersymmetric Chern-Simons matter theory with gauge group
U(2)U(2) which is a truncated version of the ABJM theory, we find by
using the monopole operator that there is additional supersymmetry
related to the gauge group. We show this additional supersymmetry can combine
with supersymmetry of the original ABJM theory to an enhanced
SUSY with gauge group U(2)U(2) in the case . We
also discuss the supersymmetry enhancement of the ABJM theory with
U()U() gauge group and find a condition which should be satisfied
by the monopole operator.Comment: 23 pages, no figure, minor corrections, version to appear in JHE
Central Charges in Extreme Black Hole/CFT Correspondence
The Kerr/CFT correspondence has been recently broadened to the general
extremal black holes under the assumption that the central charges from the
non-gravitational fields vanish. To confirm this proposal, we derive the
expression of the conserved charges in the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory with
topological terms in four and five dimensions and check that the above
assumption was correct. Combining the computed central charge with the expected
form of the temperature, the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the general extremal
black holes in four and five dimensions can be reproduced by using the Cardy
formula.Comment: 20 pages, v2:references added, published in JHE
Massive Three-Dimensional Supergravity From R+R^2 Action in Six Dimensions
We obtain a three-parameter family of massive N=1 supergravities in three
dimensions from the 3-sphere reduction of an off-shell N=(1,0) six-dimensional
Poincare supergravity that includes a curvature squared invariant. The
three-dimensional theory contains an off-shell supergravity multiplet and an
on-shell scalar matter multiplet. We then generalise this in three dimensions
to an eight-parameter family of supergravities. We also find a duality
relationship between the six-dimensional theory and the N=(1,0) six-dimensional
theory obtained through a T^4 reduction of the heterotic string effective
action that includes the higher-order terms associated with the
supersymmetrisation of the anomaly-cancelling \tr(R\wedge R) term.Comment: Latex, 32 Pages, an equation is corrected, a few new equations and a

On Non-linear Action for Gauged M2-brane
We propose a non-linear extension of U(1) \times U(1) (abelian) ABJM model
including T_{M2} (higher derivative) corrections. The action proposed here is
expected to describe a single M2-brane proving C^4/Z_k target space. The model
includes couplings with the 3-form background in the eleven-dimensional
supergravity which is consistent with the orbifold projection. We show that the
novel higgs mechanism proposed by Mukhi and Papageorgakis does work even in the
presence of higher derivative corrections and couplings with the background
field, giving the correct structure of the Dirac-Born-Infeld action with
Wess-Zumino term for a D2-brane. We also find half BPS solutions in the full
non-linear theory which is interpreted as an another M2-brane intersecting with
the original M2-brane. A possible generalization to U(N) \times U(N) gauge
group is briefly discussed.Comment: 19 pages, no figure, references added, typos correcte
On the coset duals of extended higher spin theories
We study the holographic duality between the M x M matrix extension of
Vasiliev higher spin theories on AdS3 and the large N limit of SU(N+M)/SU(N) x
U(1) type cosets. We present a simplified proof for the agreement of the
spectra and clarify the relation between this duality and the version in which
the cosets are replaced by Kazama-Suzuki models of Grassmannian type.Comment: 27 pages, 1 tabl
Large N=4 Holography
The class of 2d minimal model CFTs with higher spin AdS3 duals is extended to
theories with large N=4 superconformal symmetry. We construct a higher spin
theory based on the global D(2,1|alpha) superalgebra, and propose a large N
family of cosets as a dual CFT description. We also indicate how a non-abelian
version of this Vasiliev higher spin theory might give an alternative
description of IIB string theory on an AdS3 x S3 x S3 x S1 background.Comment: 41 pages, LaTe
