Anomalies on orbifolds with gauge symmetry breaking
We embed two 4D chiral multiplets of opposite representations in the 5D N=2
gauge theory compactified on an orbifold .
There are two types of orbifold boundary conditions in the extra dimension to
obtain the 4D N=1 gauge theory from the bulk: in
Type I, one has the bulk gauge group at and the unbroken gauge group at
while in Type II, one has the unbroken gauge group at both fixed
points. In both types of orbifold boundary conditions, we consider the zero
mode(s) as coming from a bulk -plet and brane fields at the fixed
point(s) with the unbroken gauge group. We check the consistency of this
embedding of fields by the localized anomalies and the localized FI terms. We
show that the localized anomalies in Type I are cancelled exactly by the
introduction of a bulk Chern-Simons term. On the other hand, in some class of
Type II, the Chern-Simons term is not enough to cancel all localized anomalies
even if they are globally vanishing. We also find that for the consistent
embedding of brane fields, there appear only the localized log FI terms at the

What do young athletes implicitly understand about psychological skills?
One reason sport psychologists teach psychological skills is to enhance performance in sport; but the value of psychological skills for young athletes is questionable because of the qualitative and quantitative differences between children and adults in their understanding of abstract concepts such as mental skills. To teach these skills effectively to young athletes, sport psychologists need to appreciate what young athletes implicitly understand about such skills because maturational (e.g., cognitive, social) and environmental (e.g., coaches) factors can influence the progressive development of children and youth. In the present qualitative study, we explored young athletesâ (aged 10â15 years) understanding of four basic psychological skills: goal setting, mental imagery, self-talk, and relaxation. Young athletes (n = 118: 75 males and 43 females) completed an open-ended questionnaire to report their understanding of these four basic psychological skills. Compared with the older youth athletes, the younger youth athletes were less able to explain the meaning of each psychological skill. Goal setting and mental imagery were better understood than self-talk and relaxation. Based on these findings, sport psychologists should consider adapting interventions and psychoeducational programs to match young athletesâ age and developmental level
Experimental Constraints on Heavy Fermions in Higgsless Models
Using an effective Lagrangian approach we analyze a generic Higgsless model
with composite heavy fermions, transforming as SU(2)_{L+R} Doublets. Assuming
that the Standard Model fermions acquire mass through mixing with the new heavy
fermions, we constrain the free parameters of the effective Lagrangian studying
Flavour Changing Neutral Current processes. In so doing we obtain bounds that
can be applied to a wide range of models characterized by the same fermion

CP Violation in Fermion Pair Decays of Neutral Boson Particles
We study CP violation in fermion pair decays of neutral boson particles with
spin 0 or 1. We study a new asymmetry to measure CP violation in decays and discuss the possibility of measuring it
experimentally. For the spin-1 particles case, we study CP violation in the
decays of to octet baryon pairs. We show that these decays can
be used to put stringent constraints on the electric dipole moments of

Hyperbolic phase and squeeze-parameter estimation
We define a new representation, the hyperbolic phase representation, which enables optimal estimation of a squeeze parameter in the sense of quantum estimation theory. We compare the signal-to-noise ratio for such measurements, with conventional measurement based on photon counting and homodyne detection. The signal-to-noise ratio for hyperbolic phase measurements is shown to increase quadratically with the squeezing parameter for fixed input power
Composite quarks and leptons in higher space-time dimensions
A new approach towards the composite structure of quarks and leptons in the
context of the higher dimensional unified theories is proposed. Owing to the
certain strong dynamics, much like an ordinary QCD, every possible vectorlike
multiplets of composites appear in higher dimensional bulk space-time, however,
through a proper Sherk-Schwarz compactification only chiral set of composite
quarks and leptons survive as the massless states in four dimensions. In this
scenario restrictions related with the 't Hooft's anomaly matching condition
are turned out to be avoided and, as a result, the composite models look rather
simple and economic. We demonstrate our approach by an explicit construction of
model of preons and their composites unified in the supersymmetric SU(5) GUT in
five space-time dimensions. The model predicts exactly three families of the
composite quarks and leptons being the triplets of the chiral horizontal
symmetry SU(3)_h which automatically appears in the composite spectrum when

Reactions to messages about smoking, vaping and COVID-19: Two national experiments
Introduction The pace and scale of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with ongoing efforts by health agencies to communicate harms, have created a pressing need for data to inform messaging about smoking, vaping, and COVID-19. We examined reactions to COVID-19 and traditional health harms messages discouraging smoking and vaping. Methods Participants were a national convenience sample of 810 US adults recruited online in May 2020. All participated in a smoking message experiment and a vaping message experiment, presented in a random order. In each experiment, participants viewed one message formatted as a Twitter post. The experiments adopted a 3 (traditional health harms of smoking or vaping: Three harms, one harm, absent) Ă 2 (COVID-19 harms: one harm, absent) between-subjects design. Outcomes included perceived message effectiveness (primary) and constructs from the Tobacco Warnings Model (secondary: Attention, negative affect, cognitive elaboration, social interactions). Results Smoking messages with traditional or COVID-19 harms elicited higher perceived effectiveness for discouraging smoking than control messages without these harms (all p <0.001). However, including both traditional and COVID-19 harms in smoking messages had no benefit beyond including either alone. Smoking messages affected Tobacco Warnings Model constructs and did not elicit more reactance than control messages. Smoking messages also elicited higher perceived effectiveness for discouraging vaping. Including traditional harms in messages about vaping elicited higher perceived effectiveness for discouraging vaping (p <0.05), but including COVID-19 harms did not. Conclusions Messages linking smoking with COVID-19 may hold promise for discouraging smoking and may have the added benefit of also discouraging vaping

We investigate supersymmetric theory in 5
dimensions whose compactification on a orbifold yields N=1
supersymmetric supplemented by a
\tl{U}(1) gauge symmetry. We discuss how the problem is resolved, a
realistic Yukawa sector achieved, and a stable proton realized. Neutrino masses

Product-Group Unification in Type IIB String Thoery
The product-group unification is a model of unified theories, in which
masslessness of the two Higgs doublets and absence of dimension-five proton
decay are guaranteed by a symmetry. It is based on SU(5) x U(N) (N=2,3) gauge
group. It is known that various features of the model are explained naturally,
when it is embedded in a brane world. This article describes an idea of how to
accommodate all the particles of the model in Type IIB brane world. The
GUT-breaking sector is realized by a D3--D7 system, and chiral quarks and
leptons arise from intersection of D7-branes. The D-brane configuration can be
a geometric realization of the non-parallel family structure of quarks and
leptons, an idea proposed to explain the large mixing angles observed in the
neutrino oscillation. The tri-linear interaction of the next-to-minimal

The CLIMPACTS synthesis report: An assessment of the effects of climate change and variation in New Zealand using the CLIMPACTS system
In the late 1980s, New Zealand undertook the first national assessment of climate change and its possible impacts on the country.The landmark report, reflecting the judgement of scores of national experts, called for greater efforts in building the national research capacity in order to better quantify the range of impacts that could occur in New Zealand from climate change and variability. In response, the collaborative CLIMPACTS Programme was established to provide this capacity. Ten years on from the first national assessment, the present synthesis offers some results from, as well as a demonstration of, the capacity developed by the CLIMPACTS Programme. The purpose of the present document is to provide a summary report from the CLIMPACTS Programme on climate change and its effects on New Zealand.The chapters and their contents are not comprehensive. Rather, they are focused on a specific set of questions, which conform to the particular expertise of the CLIMPACTS Programme members and which employ a limited set of the wide range of tools available within the CLIMPACTS Model. Other important areas such as forests, indigenous ecosystems and pests and diseases are not yet covered
